[Termes descripteurs IGN] vingtième siècleRésumé : (Auteur) Fluvial corridor quality assessment requires that historical data be collected at a regional scale. In this article, our goal is to assess potential map resources to explore riverscape changes at a regional network scale and to define key issues in using an automated vectorization protocol to characterize such changes on such a large scale. We consider IGN’s Nouvelle Carte de France a potentially good resource for our objective of two-date (oldest + actual vector database) comparisons on 1:20,000–1:25,000 scale maps, notably when applied at a regional scale. The French IGN corpus is a good example of topographic maps that were produced in the twentieth century in Europe with fairly homogeneous data over a whole national territory. Moreover, the digitization and georeferencing processes applied by IGN are very accurate. The evolution of conventional features is not as significant for the hydrographic theme and should not be a problem for automatic vectorization. The potential temporal coverage is from 1922 to 1993, but the complexity of the sheet divisions, partial revisions, and the heterogeneity of coverage over time prevent multidate analysis. [Termes descripteurs IGN] théorie de Dempster-ShaferRésumé : (auteur) Updating an authoritative Land Use and Land Cover (LULC) database requires many resources. Volunteered geographic information (VGI) involves citizens in the collection of data about their spatial environment. There is a growing interest in using existing VGI to update authoritative databases. This paper presents a framework aimed at integrating multi-source VGI based on a data fusion technique, in order to update an authoritative land use database. Each VGI data source is considered to be an independent source of information, which is fused together using Dempster-Shafer Theory (DST). The framework is tested in the updating of the authoritative land use data produced by the French National Mapping Agency. Four data sets were collected from several in-situ and remote campaigns run between 2018 and 2020 by contributors with varying profiles. The data fusion approach achieved an overall accuracy of 85.6% for the 144 features having at least two contributions when the confidence threshold was set to 0.05. Despite the heterogeneity and limited amount of VGI used, the results are promising, with 99% of the LU polygons updated or enriched. These results show the potential of using multi-source VGI to update or enrich authoritative LU data and potentially LULC data more generally. [Termes descripteurs IGN] système de gestion de base de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) The large volume and variety of data produced in the current Big Data era lead companies to seek solutions for the efficient data management. Within this context, NoSQL databases rise as a better alternative to the traditional relational databases, mainly in terms of scalability and availability of data. A usual feature of NoSQL databases is to be schemaless, i.e., they do not impose a schema or have a flexible schema. This is interesting for systems that deal with complex data, such as GIS. However, the lack of a schema becomes a problem when applications need to perform processes such as data validation, data integration, or data interoperability, as there is no pattern for schema representation in NoSQL databases. On the other hand, the JSON language stands out as a standard for representing and exchanging data in document NoSQL databases, and JSON Schema is a schema representation language for JSON documents that it is also leading to become a standard. However, it does not include spatial data types. From this limitation, this paper proposes an extension to JSON Schema, called JS4Geo, that allows the definition of schemas for geographic data. We demonstrate that JS4Geo is able to represent schemas of any NoSQL data model, as well as other standards for geographic data, like GML and KML. We also present a case study that shows how a data integration system can benefit of JS4Geo to define local schemas for geographic datasets and generate an integrated global schema. [Termes descripteurs IGN] qualité des donnéesRésumé : (auteur) Though Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI) has the advantage of providing free open spatial data, it is prone to vandalism, which may heavily decrease the quality of these data. Therefore, detecting vandalism in VGI may constitute a first way of assessing the data in order to improve their quality. This article explores the ability of supervised machine learning approaches to detect vandalism in OpenStreetMap (OSM) in an automated way. For this purpose, our work includes the construction of a corpus of vandalism data, given that no OSM vandalism corpus is available so far. Then, we investigate the ability of random forest methods to detect vandalism on the created corpus. Experimental results show that random forest classifiers perform well in detecting vandalism in the same geographical regions that were used for training the model and has more issues with vandalism detection in “unfamiliar regions”. [Termes descripteurs IGN] qualité des donnéesRésumé : (auteur) Data quality assessment of OpenStreetMap (OSM) data can be carried out by comparing them with a reference spatial data (e.g authoritative data). However, in case of a lack of reference data, the spatial accuracy is unknown. The aim of this work is therefore to propose a framework to infer relative spatial accuracy of OSM data by using machine learning methods. Our approach is based on the hypothesis that there is a relationship between extrinsic and intrinsic quality measures. Thus, starting from a multi-criteria data matching, the process seeks to establish a statistical relationship between measures of extrinsic quality of OSM (i.e. obtained by comparison with reference spatial data) and the measures of intrinsic quality of OSM (i.e. OSM features themselves) in order to estimate extrinsic quality on an unevaluated OSM dataset. The approach was applied on OSM buildings. On our dataset, the resulting regression model predicts the values on the extrinsic quality indicators with 30% less variance than an uninformed predictor.
