[Termes IGN] relation spatialeRésumé : (auteur) [introduction] One kind of map commonly produced from the always increasing volume of available data is made of “base” data acting as a backdrop map used for localisation purpose, on which data related to a particular theme, of interest for the user, are overlaid (Jaara et al. 2011; Moseme and van Elzakker 2012). In the rest of the paper, we call “data layer” a dataset stemming from one source (authoritative or VGI), here considered internally consistent – i.e. reliability and redundancy issues underlined by Sester et al. (2014) in the case of VGI data have been handled before. We call maps composed of several data layers (each stemming from one source), thematically multi-sourced maps. Here, we consider maps composed of two data layers: one base layer and one thematic layer. Most thematic maps have been based on this two layers principle for decades (and were multi-sourced), but they have long been made mainly by cartographic experts (Das et al. 2012). Recently, making and publishing such maps has become much easier. Their potential is huge for the users, however, the risk is huge to produce maps that are hardly legible or interpretable and can lead to bad decision making (Jaara et al. 2011; Das et al 2012; Gaffuri 2011; Balley et al. 2014; Sester et al. 2014). [Termes IGN] système multi-agentsRésumé : (auteur) The objective of cartographic generalisation is to simplify geographic data in order to create legible maps when scale decreases. It often requires to reason at different levels of abstraction (e.g. a building, a city). To automate this process, Multi-Agent approaches have been used for several years. Map objects (e.g. buildings) are modelled as autonomous entities that try to solve constraints through appropriate transformations. Yet, those approaches are not able to deal with all situations that appear between cartographic objects in a map. Indeed, though a map intrinsically involves objects that belong to several description, scale or organisation levels, there is no explicit multi-level representation in agent-based cartographic models. Thus we assume that the use of a multi-level multi-agent model would improve the automated generalisation process. Especially, the PADAWAN model is a multi-agent model offering multi-level capabilities which meet quite well the requirements for the multi-level organisation of cartographic objects. In this paper, we expose how we use this model on the one hand, to reify multi-level relations between cartographic agents, and on the other hand, to represent the constraints and the actions proposed to solve them, as interactions between the agents. [Termes IGN] mise à jour de base de donnéesRésumé : (auteur) 2D land-cover databases (LC-DB) have been established at various levels (global, national or regional scales), various spatial samplings and for various themes of interest (forest, agriculture, urban areas, etc.). However, they exhibit many flaws (limited geometric accuracy, low coverage) and require to be updated with automatic algorithms. Very High Reso-lution satellite imagery offers a suitable solution for setting up such on-purpose algorithms, and a large body of litera-ture has tackled this topic. This paper proposes a framework that is able to deal with both LC-DB update of any kind and their enrichment in case of incomplete DB. The supervised classification-based solution integrates an efficient learning strategy that allows to capture the heterogeneity of the ap-pearances of the various themes of interest. The proposed framework is favorably compared with two state-of-the-art methods, on a reconstructed dataset, composed of sub-metric satellite image patches. [Termes IGN] mise à jour de base de donnéesRésumé : (auteur) Land-Cover databases (LC-DB) are very useful for environmental purposes, but need to be regularly updated to provide robust and instructive spatial indicators. Moreover, very high resolution satellite images allow to cover large areas regularly. Thus, automatic methods have to been developed to tackle this issue. In this paper, a hierarchical inspection method is proposed to both update and extend LC-DB using satellite image. This framework is successfully applied on the French National LC-DB using a single VHR satellite image.
