[Termes IGN] protection de la vie privéeRésumé : (auteur) When locations of individual-level health data are released in the form of published maps, the identity of these individuals could be identified through reverse geocoding. Spatial data can, therefore, not be released unless the locations have been modified, for example, using aggregation or geographic masking. Geographic masking techniques apply translation or perturbations to decrease the likelihood of re-identification of individuals through reverse geocoding. The current study proposes a new geographic masking technique referred to as “location swapping.” Location swapping replaces an original location with a masked location selected from all possible locations with similar geographic characteristics within a specified neighborhood. Strengths and weaknesses of location swapping will be discussed relative to existing geographic masking techniques. The approach will be illustrated using several example data sets and a custom toolset developed for ArcGIS to automate the location swapping algorithm. [Termes IGN] vectorisationRésumé : (Auteur) A protocol for the collection of vector data in Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI) projects is proposed. VGI is a source of crowdsourced geographic data and information which is comparable, and in some cases better, than equivalent data from National Mapping Agencies (NMAs) and Commercial Surveying Companies (CSC). However, there are many differences in how NMAs and CSC collect, analyse, manage and distribute geographic information to that of VGI projects. NMAs and CSC make use of robust and standardised data collection protocols whilst VGI projects often provide guidelines rather than rigorous data collection specifications. The proposed protocol addresses formalising the collection and creation of vector data in VGI projects in three principal ways: by manual vectorisation; field survey; and reuse of existing data sources. This protocol is intended to be generic rather than being linked to any specific VGI project. We believe that this is the first protocol for VGI vector data collection that has been formally described in the literature. Consequently, this paper shall serve as a starting point for on-going development and refinement of the protocol. [Termes IGN] exploration de données géographiquesRésumé : (Auteur) Spatiotemporal co-occurrence patterns (STCOPs) represent the subsets of feature types whose instances are frequently co-occurring both in space and time. Spatiotemporal co-occurrences reflect the spatiotemporal overlap relationships among two or more spatiotemporal instances both in spatial and temporal dimensions. STCOPs can be potentially used to predict and understand the generation and evolution of different types of interacting phenomena in various scientific fields such as astronomy, meteorology, biology, geosciences. Meaningful and statistically significant data analysis for these scientific fields requires processing sufficiently large datasets. Due to the computationally expensive nature of spatiotemporal operations required for mining spatiotemporal co-occurrences, it is increasingly difficult to identify spatiotemporal co-occurrences and discover STCOPs in centralized system settings. As a solution, we developed a cloud-based distributed mining system for discovering STCOPs. Our system uses Accumulo, a column-oriented non-relational database management system as its backbone. In order to efficiently mine the STCOPs, we propose three data models for managing trajectory-based spatiotemporal data in Accumulo. We introduce an in-memory join-index structure and a join algorithm for effectively performing spatiotemporal join operations on spatiotemporal trajectories in non-relational databases. Lastly, with the experiments with artificial and real life datasets, we evaluate the performance of the proposed models for STCOP mining. [Termes IGN] SIG 3DRésumé : (auteur) The level of detail (LOD) concept of the OGC standard CityGML 2.0 is intended to differentiate multi-scale representations of semantic 3D city models. The concept is in practice principally used to indicate the geometric detail of a model, primarily of buildings. Despite the popularity and the general acceptance of this categorisation, we argue in this paper that from a geometric point of view the five LODs are insufficient and that their specification is ambiguous.
We solve these shortcomings with a better definition of LODs and their refinement. Hereby we present a refined set of 16 LODs focused on the grade of the exterior geometry of buildings, which provide a stricter specification and allow less modelling freedom. This series is a result of an exhaustive research into currently available 3D city models, production workflows, and capabilities of acquisition techniques. Our specification also includes two hybrid models that reflect common acquisition practices. The new LODs are in line with the LODs of CityGML 2.0, and are intended to supplement, rather than replace the geometric part of the current specification. While in our paper we focus on the geometric aspect of the models, our specification is compatible with different levels of semantic granularity. Furthermore, the improved LODs can be considered format-agnostic.
Among other benefits, the refined specification could be useful for companies for a better definition of their product portfolios, and for researchers to specify data requirements when presenting use cases of 3D city models. We support our refined LODs with experiments, proving their uniqueness by showing that each yields a different result in a 3D spatial operation.
