[Termes IGN] variation saisonnièreRésumé : (auteur) The April 25, 2015 Mw 7.9 Gorkha earthquake in Nepal was characterized by a peak slip of several meters and persisting aftershocks. We report here that, in addition, a dense seismic swarm initiated abruptly in August 2017 at the western edge of the afterslip region, below the high Himalchuli-Manaslu range culminating at 8156 m, a region seismically inactive during the past 35 years. Over 6500 events were recorded by the Nepal National Seismological Network with local magnitude ranging between 1.8 and 3.7 until November 2017. This swarm was reactivated between April and July 2018, with about 10 times less events than in 2017, and in 2019 with only sporadic events. The relocation of swarm earthquakes using proximal temporary stations ascertains a shallow depth of hypocenters between the surface and 20 km depth in the High Himalayan Crystalline slab. This swarm reveals an intriguing localized interplay between orogenic collapse and stress adjustments, involving possibly CO2-rich fluid migration, more likely post-seismic slip and seasonal enhancements. To wit, we consider successively the one dimensional Burridge–Knopoff (BK) model and the two dimensional Olami–Feder–Christensen (OFC) model. Each model is modified to take into account either a modulation of normal stress or of shear stress acting on a fault. Despite the differences between the BK and the OFC model, several results are observed in both models. In particular, we observe that earthquake occurrences correlate with stress modulation. The correlation is strongly dependent on parameters such as the type of modulation, its frequency and amplitude, and in some cases on the magnitude of the considered earthquakes. [Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (Auteur) Maximal overlap discrete wavelet transform is used to perform spectral analysis of geomagnetic storm sudden commencements (SCs) (SSCs). This spectral analysis guided us in the development of an automatic SSC detection algorithm. The SC can be an indicator of the onset of a geomagnetic storm; in this case, it is called an SSC. The geomagnetic records used in this study were 3-s resolution data collected from the Circum-Pan Pacific Magnetometer Network. Using such high-resolution data enabled us to achieve a small detection error and short processing time. In addition to these technical merits, we introduce a new algorithm that automatically detects, for the first time, the SC from high-resolution data (sampled at the rate of 1 sample/3 s), unlike previous studies that focused on determining the SSC times automatically using 1-min data. Ninety-three geomagnetic storms were considered for testing the proposed algorithm; it was found that the average and maximum standard deviation of the errors in the detection times determined by the algorithm were 7 and 18 samples, respectively, of the corresponding manually determined arrival times. [Termes IGN] surveillance géologiqueRésumé : (auteur) The Bouillante high enthalpy geothermal field, 250-260°C, is located in the Guadeloupe volcanic Island (French West Indies). Since 2005, the new geothermal power plant has had an installed capacity of 15 MWe gross which represents about 8% of the annual electricity needs in the Island. It is supplied by 3 wells which can produce up to 120 tons/h of steam. No residual water is re-injected. Among the research efforts carried out by the BRGM group and partially funded by ADEME (French Environment and Energy Management Agency), different monitoring methods of the geothermal exploitation have been started, tested and developed in order to optimize and secure electricity production and to control its impact on the immediate environment of the power plant. This is especially important because the power plant is located inside the Bouillante town. These methods are: geochemical monitoring of the fluids collected from the geothermal wells and neighboring thermal springs in order to control the evolution of the fluid geochemistry and the Gas/Steam Ratio, surface soil thermometry monitoring, geophysical monitoring such as broadband seismology, microgravity and SAR interferometry to detect mass transfers or changes in the geothermal reservoir during its exploitation as well as vertical surface ground deformations. This paper presents the main results and conclusions obtained from these different monitoring techniques. On the whole, despite the pressure decrease observed in the geothermal reservoir due to an annual production estimated at about 4.5 millions of tons of fluid, no significant variation of the monitored parameters has been detected from these methods during four quasi-continuous years of geothermal exploitation. Most of these monitoring techniques will be continued and probably developed in the next few years, especially if the produced fluids are re-injected, in order to anticipate and/or quickly take into account problems such as issues related to chemical change of the reservoir fluid or induced microseismicity.
