[Termes IGN] signal laserRésumé : (Auteur) This article presents the use of new remote sensing data acquired from airborne full-waveform lidar systems for hydrological applications. Indeed, the knowledge of an accurate topography and a landcover classification is a prior knowledge for any hydrological and erosion model. Badlands tend to be the most significant areas of erosion in the world with the highest erosion rate values. Monitoring and predicting erosion within badland mountainous catchments is highly strategic due to the arising downstream consequences and the need for natural hazard mitigation engineering.
Additionally, beyond the elevation information, full-waveform lidar data are processed to extract the amplitude and the width of echoes. They are related to the target reflectance and geometry. We will investigate the relevancy of using lidar-derived Digital Terrain Models (DTMs) and the potentiality of the amplitude and the width information for 3-D landcover classification. Considering the novelty and the complexity of such data, they are presented in details as well as guidelines to process them. The morphological validation of DTMs is then performed via the computation of hydrological indexes and photo-interpretation. Finally, a 3-D landcover classification is performed using a Support Vector Machine classifier. The use of an ortho-rectified optical image in the classification process as well as full-waveform lidar data for hydrological purposes is finally discussed.Numéro de notice : A2009-592 Affiliation des auteurs : MATIS+Ext (1993-2011) Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.5194/hess-13-1531-2009 Date de publication en ligne : 26/08/2009 En ligne : http://dx.doi.org/10.5194/hess-13-1531-2009 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=33545

The portable system offers fast deployment with no recalibration and maps both vertical and horizontal features while maintaining optimal flight parameters. The geo-referenced image and 3D point-cloud data can be processed into digital terrain models, digital surface models, and automatically derived 3D city models. [Termes IGN] standardRésumé : (Auteur) Light Detection and Ranging, or Lidar technology has become an industry-standard high-speed tool for collecting dense and accurate topographic data. However, proprietary or ASCII file format for storing Lidar limit the scope of data sharing and result in time-consuming data processing and loss of integrity. Instead, the industry recommends an American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing standard data exchange format, Lidar Standard or LAS, which requires dedicated processing software. Existing image-processing and GIS software are being updated to include LAS, but so slowly that some users are converting their data from LAS to more convenient formats. We have filled the gap with the free software tool 'LASUtility'. [Termes IGN] Pays de GallesRésumé : (Auteur) Modelling and extracting 3D geographical data presents numerous challenges that require continual research to attempt to evolve an efficient, reliable and accurate solution. LiDAR data capture and analysis has become a preferred acquisition choice for elevation data because the resulting quality and level of detail far exceeds traditional methods for large survey areas. As with any data collection system, LiDAR is prone to errors. Analysing these errors, ascertaining causes and producing error correction strategies is vital if accurate and confident results are to be obtained. Eight years of LiDAR datasets (from 1998 to 2005) have been closely analysed for a large coastal area of South Wales. This article provides a detailed and accurate summary of the identified LiDAR data issues and subsequent errors which affect the accuracy of end products such as Digital Surface Models (DSMs).
