[Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) We propose a novel image-based strategy for a sub-decimetre quality georeferencing of Mobile Mapping Systems in urban areas. The presented approach uses very high resolution multiple-view calibrated aerial images to extract a database of 3D invariant objects, namely road marks. These objects are also extracted in 3D in the ground-based imagery and are matched with the aerial data source. These road features can then be used as Ground Control Objects for a photogrammetric resection to finely register the images of a terrestrial mobile mapping system. And the results in this paper will be shown on a "zebra crossing" road mark. Nevertheless, the process we describe could be applied to any other road mark. [Termes IGN] station de travail de photogrammétrie numériqueRésumé : (Auteur) Since the break-up of the Soviet Union and the end of its communist regime, gradually a substantial commercial sector in surveying, mapping and remote sensing has been built up inside Russia serving government agencies and both privately-owned and state-owned industrial and commercial enterprises. Besides this development within the country, some of the companies involved in the mapping sector either as system suppliers or service providers have also entered foreign markets, both within the former communist bloc countries and also further afield. One of the most prominent of these is the Racurs company - which is both a system supplier and a service provider. The opportunity to visit this company's main facility located in the north-eastern part of Central Moscow and to see and hear about its various products and activities was presented to my wife and I during the recent conference on Laser Scanning & Digital Aerial Photography held in Moscow. It proved to be a most interesting and informative visit. [Termes IGN] signalisation routièreRésumé : (auteur) The present paper is an extension of a previous work presented in Soheilian et al. (2006) in which an automatic algorithm of zebracrossing reconstruction from stereo-pairs of a mobile mapping system was presented. The method has been adapted to reconstruct different kinds of rectangular roadmarks. The algorithm can be summarized in three main steps. First of all a 3D edge point reconstruction is performed by a dynamic programming optimization matching conjugate epipolar lines. Then during a detection step, dashed-line signature is recognized and sets of candidate line-segments are provided. A final modelling step optimally rebuilds each strip of the detected dashed-line. The method is evaluated on a set of 150 stereo-pairs. It provides promising results with a detection rate higher than 86%. Geometric accuracy of the method is about 2 cm for all of the reconstructed zebra-crossing and dashed-lines strips. Tapping on a range of techniques provided in the Erdas Imagine environment, the procedures laid out in this paper go a step further than normal software guidelines by providing improvised techniques that are graphically illustrated by reference to a study area (the Okavango Delta in northern Botswana) covering about 65000km to allow the reader to assimilate the sequence of steps involved. With self evident usable results in the form of a 2m-resolution seamless mosaic providing blanket coverage for the above stated area on 15 September 1967, it is apparent that similar initiatives elsewhere can take advantage of our proposed methodology in putting together what is retrievable from the archives by building databases that extend time horizons into the historical past for use in long-term environmental monitoring.
