[Termes IGN] TurquieRésumé : (auteur) This study aimed to compare a handheld mobile laser scanning (HMLS), called TORCH that uses the SLAM algorithm, and a PPK-integrated close-range terrestrial photogrammetry (CRTP) to measure forest road surface deformation. The PPK-integrated CRTP includes a multiband GNSS-module and a camera mounted on a 5-m prism pole. 3D point-clouds were gathered/produced at three different dates with approximately 3-month intervals. And then road surface deformations were determined by applying the M3C2 algorithm. Each method was compared by considering some advantages and disadvantages. PPK-integrated CRTP, which could only be used in areas where the GPS signal is not blocked, provided highly denser 3D point clouds than HMLS. However, for the first period, the difference of mean deformation values between the two methods was not statistically significant, whereas it was statistically significant for the second period. Both methods can be suggested to use in forest road surface deformation yet considering their limitations. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) The measurement accuracy of the Mobile Mapping System (MMS) is the main problem, which restricts its development and application, so how to calibrate the MMS to improve its measurement accuracy has always been a research hotspot in the industry. This paper proposes a position and attitude calibration method with error correction based on the combination of the feature point and feature surface. First, the initial value of the spatial position relationship between each sensor of MMS is obtained by close-range photogrammetry. Second, the optimal solution for error correction is calculated by feature points in global coordinates jointly measured with International GNSS Service (IGS) stations. Then, the final transformation parameters are solved by combining the initial values obtained originally, thereby realizing the rapid calibration of the MMS. Finally, it analyzed the RMSE of MMS point cloud after calibration, and the results demonstrate the feasibility of the calibration approach proposed by this method. Under the condition of a single measurement sensor accuracy is low, the plane and elevation absolute accuracy of the point cloud after calibration can reach 0.043 m and 0.072 m, respectively, and the relative accuracy is smaller than 0.02 m. It meets the precision requirements of data acquisition for MMS. It is of great significance for promoting the development of MMS technology and the application of some novel techniques in the future, such as autonomous driving, digital twin city, urban brain et al. [Termes IGN] trajectoire (véhicule non spatial)Résumé : (auteur) Terrestrial close-range photogrammetry offers a low-cost method of three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of forest stands that provides automatically processable 3D data that can be used to evaluate inventory parameters of forest stands and individual trees. However, fundamental methodological problems in image acquisition and processing remain. This study enhances the methodology of photogrammetric Structure from Motion reconstruction of forest stands by determining the best photographer's trajectory for image acquisition. The study comprises 1) mathematical optimization of the route in a square grid using integer programming, 2) evaluation of point clouds derived from sequences of real photographs, simulating different trajectories, and 3) verification on real trajectories. In a forest research plot, we established a 1 m square grid of 625 (i.e., 25 × 25) photographic positions, and at each position, we captured 16 photographs in uniformly spaced directions. We adopted real tree positions and diameters, and the coordinates of the photographic positions, including orientation angles of captured images, were recorded. We then formulated an integer programming optimization model to find the most efficient trajectory that provided coverage of all sides of all trees with sufficient counts of images. Subsequently, we used the 10,000 captured images to produce image subsets simulating image sequences acquired during the photographer's movement along 84 different systematic trajectories of seven patterns based on either parallel lines or concentric orbits. 3D point clouds derived from the simulated image sequences were evaluated for their suitability for automatic tree detection and estimation of diameters at breast height. The results of the integer programming model indicated that the optimal trajectory consisted of parallel line segments if the camera is pointed forward – in the travel direction, or concentric orbits if the camera is pointed to a side – perpendicular to the travel direction. With point clouds derived from the images of the simulated trajectories, the best diameter estimates on automatically detected trees were achieved with trajectories consisting of parallel lines in two perpendicular directions where each line was passed in both opposite directions. For efficient image acquisition, resulting in point clouds of reasonable quality with low counts of images, a trajectory consisting of concentric orbits, including the plot perimeter with the camera pointed towards the plot center, proved to be the best. Results of simulated trajectories were verified with the photogrammetric reconstruction of the forest stand based on real trajectories for six patterns. The mathematical optimization was consistent with the results of the experiment, which indicated that mathematical optimization may represent a valid tool for planning trajectories for photogrammetric 3D reconstruction of scenes in general. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) In this paper we present a low-cost approach to mapping vegetation cover by means of high-resolution close-range terrestrial photogrammetry. A total of 249 clusters of nine 1 m2 plots each, arranged in a 3 × 3 grid, were set up on 18 summits in Mediterranean mountain regions and in the Alps to capture images for photogrammetric processing and in-situ vegetation cover estimates. This was done with a hand-held pole-mounted digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera. Low-growing vegetation was automatically segmented using high-resolution point clouds. For classifying vegetation we used a two-step semi-supervised Random Forest approach. First, we applied an expert-based rule set using the Excess Green index (ExG) to predefine non-vegetation and vegetation points. Second, we applied a Random Forest classifier to further enhance the classification of vegetation points using selected topographic parameters (elevation, slope, aspect, roughness, potential solar irradiation) and additional vegetation indices (Excess Green Minus Excess Red (ExGR) and the vegetation index VEG). For ground cover estimation the photogrammetric point clouds were meshed using Screened Poisson Reconstruction. The relative influence of the topographic parameters on the vegetation cover was determined with linear mixed-effects models (LMMs). Analysis of the LMMs revealed a high impact of elevation, aspect, solar irradiation, and standard deviation of slope. The presented approach goes beyond vegetation cover values based on conventional orthoimages and in-situ vegetation cover estimates from field surveys in that it is able to differentiate complete 3D surface areas, including overhangs, and can distinguish between vegetation-covered and other surfaces in an automated manner. The results of the Random Forest classification confirmed it as suitable for vegetation classification, but the relative feature importance values indicate that the classifier did not leverage the potential of the included topographic parameters. In contrast, our application of LMMs utilized the topographic parameters and was able to reveal dependencies in the two biomes, such as elevation and aspect, which were able to explain between 87% and 92.5% of variance. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser terrestreRésumé : (auteur) Over the last decade, particular interest in using state-of-the-art emerging technologies for inspection, assessment, and management of civil infrastructures has remarkably increased. Advanced technologies, such as laser scanners, have become a suitable alternative for labor intensive, expensive, and unsafe traditional inspection and maintenance methods, which encourage the increasing use of this technology in construction industry, especially in bridges. This paper aims to provide a thorough mixed scientometric and state-of-the-art review on the application of terrestrial laser scanners (TLS) in bridge engineering and explore investigations and recommendations of researchers in this area. Following the review, more than 1500 research publications were collected, investigated and analyzed through a two-fold literature search published within the last decade from 2010 to 2020. Research trends, consisting of dominated sub-fields, co-occurrence of keywords, network of researchers and their institutions, along with the interaction of research networks, were quantitatively analyzed. Moreover, based on the collected papers, application of TLS in bridge engineering and asset management was reviewed according to four categories including (1) generation of 3D model, (2) quality inspection, (3) structural assessment, and (4) bridge information modeling (BrIM). Finally, the paper identifies the current research gaps, future directions obtained from the quantitative analysis, and in-depth discussions of the collected papers in this area.
