A dense DSM obtained by a merge of all elementary stereopair DSM is first generated. The scene is then splitted in focusing areas using a combined analysis of the image and DSM contents so that each mono-thematic area can be modelled and reconstructed in a different way. The general surface reconstruction approach is based on a concept of multi-image matching guided from object space. Reliable and well located 3D point features are provided by a multi-image template matcher. Reliable 3D line segments within building areas are provided by a multi-image contour matcher. The building and scene surfaces are modelled under TIN form and obtained by a Delaunay triangulation of all 3D point features constrained by the 3D line segments. [Termes IGN] photogrammétrie architecturaleRésumé : (Auteur) A photogrammetric software package available as an applet on the Internet has been developed within the framework of ARPENTEUR (ARchitectural PhotogrammEtry Network Tool for EdUcation and Research). The running of this package requires a simple browser, like Netscape Communicator. Thus it can be easily used from anywhere, all over the world and with whatever operating system. It is also a Web-based tool, since photogrammetric concepts are embedded in Web technology and Java programming language. Differents solutions for the adjustment of the photogrammetric model are currently available, as well as a measurement method based on image correlation. The applications are mainly dedicated to architectural photogrammetry with small format images. Several examples are available for education, and personal projects can be stored on the servers' database. [Termes IGN] photogrammétrie numériqueRésumé : (Auteur) Both the need for the recording of cultural heritage and the state-of-the-art of photogrammetric techniques and instruments constitute a challenge for the CIPA in the attempt to promote the extended use of photogrammetry for cultural heritage purposes. The use of photogrammetry is no longer a matter of high cost investments, nor is it necessary to have knowledge of sophisticated techniques. Analytical photogrammetry has greatly reduced operating difficulties. Digital photogrammetry is reducing the cost of the equipment and increasing the possibilities of application of photogrammetry in the field of documentation of monuments and other cultural heritage. In our opinion, a more wide-spread use of photogrammetry may be achieved by teaching and promoting its user possibilities among professionals working on cultural heritage preservation. The use of photogrammetric software is not more complicated than the use of CAD software. On the contrary, it is even less complicated. If CAD is used today in most of the offices of architects and other professionals, why can not photogrammetric software based on simple equipment and simple currently existing methods be more widely used? The problem is thus how to promote the idea of the need for the use of photogrammetry and how to teach about the uses of this technique. A more wide-spread use of photogrammetric software will, undoubtedly, promote a reduction in its costs.
