[Termes IGN] transformation géométriqueRésumé : (Auteur) In everyday communication, people effortlessly translate between spatial cognitive frames of reference. For example, a tourist guide translates from a map (“the fountain is north‐west of the church”) into a cognitive frame for a tourist (“the fountain in front of the church”). While different types of cognitive reference frames and their relevance for language cultures have been studied in considerable depth, we still lack adequate transformation models. In this article, we argue that transformations in current Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are inappropriate to this end. Appropriate transformation models need to go beyond point discretization to take into account vague transformations, in order to deal with forms, sizes, and vagueness of spatial relations relative to ground objects. We argue that neural fields should be used to denote fuzzy positions, directions, and sizes in a particular frame. We propose fuzzy vector spaces to approximate neural field behavior with affine transformations, including fuzzy translation, rotation, and scaling, in order to efficiently transform between different cognitive perspectives. We use an implementation in Haskell to describe a geographic map from the perspective of six well‐known cognitive frames of reference. Based on these findings, we give an outlook on the principles of a “neural GIS.”

[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) In this article, we reflect back on our decade‐long collaboration on the geographies of the Holocaust to argue for a GIS of place. Our previous work on ghettoization in Budapest and on the spatio‐temporal patterns of Jewish persecution in Italy had a marked spatial dimension, both in the research questions we set out to answer and the methods we used, which were largely quantitative. During the course of our research, we progressively came to realize that a spatial perspective favors the voice of the perpetrator and that to fully comprehend and understand the geography of the Holocaust, we needed to engage with the voice of the victim, extend the set of methods and tools used, and broaden our epistemology. While proposing a fully‐fledged model of a qualitative GIS of the places and spaces of the Holocaust is beyond the scope of this article, we: (a) argue for the integration of social network analysis, corpus linguistics, and spatio‐temporal methods and for a mixed‐methods analytical approach and (b) note how the topological and relational foundations we identify as fundamental to a GIS of place parallel the long‐standing call for an “integrated history” of the Holocaust. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Given a group Q of query points and a set P of points of interest (POIs), aggregate nearest neighbor (ANN) queries find a POI p from P that achieves the smallest aggregate distance. Specifically, the aggregate distance is defined over the set of distances between p and all query points in Q$\mathcal {Q}$. Existing studies on ANN query mainly consider the spatial proximity, whereas the textual similarity has received considerable attention recently. In this work, we utilize user-specified query keywords to capture textual similarity. We study the aggregate keyword nearest neighbor (AKNN) queries, finding the POI that has the smallest aggregate distance and covers all query keywords. Nevertheless, existing methods on ANN query are either inapplicable or inefficient when applied to the AKNN query. To answer our query efficiently, we first develop a dual-granularity (DG) indexing schema. It preserves abstracts of the road network by a tree structure, and preserves detailed network information by an extended adjacency list. Then, we propose a minimal first search (MFS) algorithm. It traverses the tree and explores the node with the minimal aggregate distance iteratively. This method suffers from false hits arising from keyword tests. Thus, we propose the collaborative filtering technique, which performs keywords test by multiple keyword bitmaps collectively rather than by only one. Extensive experiments on both real and synthetic datasets demonstrate the superiority of our algorithms and optimizing strategies. Les informations géolocalisables qu’un service dédié à l’environnement peut avoir à manipuler sont potentiellement légions.
