[Termes IGN] prévention des risquesRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a sub-pixel thermal anomaly detection method based on predicting background pixel intensities using a non-linear function of a plurality of past images of the inspected scene. At present, the multitemporal approach to thermal anomaly detection is in its early development stage. In case of space-borne surveillance the multitemporal detection is complicated by both spatial and temporal variability of background surface properties, weather influences, viewing geometries, sensor noise, residual misregistration, and other factors. We use the problem of fire detection and the MODIS data to demonstrate that advanced multitemporal detection methods can potentially outperform the operationally used optimized contextual algorithms both under morning and evening conditions. [Termes IGN] traitement d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) Aujourd'hui de nombreuses méthodes de segmentation et de classification existent, aussi bien supervisées que non supervisées. Dans ce papier, nous nous sommes intéressés à une technique simple permettant de proposer un résultat unique fondé sur une implication homogène de chaque méthode dans le résultat final sans masquer les défaillances individuelles de ces méthodes. Un mécanisme prenant en compte l'utilisation de plusieurs classifieurs pour obtenir un consensus au niveau du résultat final est décrit. Ce mécanisme utilise la notion d'entropie et permet de s'abstenir du choix délicat de la méthode de segmentation ou de classification. La principale qualité de cette technique est le fait qu'elle permet de compenser les défauts de chaque méthode utilisée, sans utiliser une technique d'échantillonnage quelconque pour identifier la pertinence de chaque méthode. [Termes IGN] Triangulated Irregular NetworkRésumé : (Auteur) The Digital Elevation Model (DEM) derived from NASA's Shuttle Radar Topography Mission is the most accurate near-global elevation model that is publicly available. However, it contains many data voids, mostly in mountainous terrain. This problem is particularly severe in the rugged Oman Mountains. This study presents a method to fill these voids using a fill surface derived from Russian military maps. For this we developed a new method, which is based on Triangular Irregular Networks (TINs). For each void, we extracted points around the edge of the void from the SRTM DEM and the fill surface. TINs were calculated from these points and converted to a base surface for each dataset. The fill base surface was subtracted from the fill surface, and the result added to the SRTM base surface. The fill surface could then seamlessly be merged with the SRTM DEM. For validation, we compared the resulting DEM to the original SRTM surface, to the fill DEM and to a surface calculated by the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) from the SRTM data. We calculated the differences between measured GPS positions and the respective surfaces for 187,500 points throughout the mountain range (?GPS). Comparison of the means and standard deviations of these values showed that for the void areas, the fill surface was most accurate, with a standard deviation of the ?GPS from the mean ?GPS of 69 m, and only little accuracy was lost by merging it to the SRTM surface (standard deviation of 76 m). The CIAT model was much less accurate in these areas (standard deviation of 128 m). The results show that our method is capable of transferring the relative vertical accuracy of a fill surface to the void areas in the SRTM model, without introducing uncertainties about the absolute elevation of the fill surface. It is well suited for datasets with varying altitude biases, which is a common problem of older topographic information. [Termes IGN] sous ensemble flouRésumé : (Auteur) Fuzzy set theory has been suggested as a means for representing vague spatial phenomena, and is widely known for directly addressing some of the issues of vagueness such as the sorites paradox. Higher order vagueness is widely considered a necessary component of any theory of vagueness, but it is not so well known that it too is competently modelled by Type n Fuzzy sets. In this paper we explore the fuzzy representation of higher order vagueness with respect to spatial phenomena. Initially we relate the arguments on philosophical vagueness to Type n Fuzzy sets. As an example, we move on to an empirical generation of spatial Type 2 Fuzzy sets examining the spatial extent of mountain peaks in Scotland. We show that the Type 2 Fuzzy sets can be populated by using alternative parameterisations of a peak detection algorithm. Further ambiguities could also be explored using other parameters of this and other algorithms. We show some novel answers to interrogations of the mountain peaks of Scotland. The conclusion of this work is that higher order vagueness can be populated for Type 2 and higher fuzzy sets. It does not follow that it is always necessary to examine these higher order uncertainties, but a possible advantage in terms of the results of spatial inquiry is demonstrated. In this paper, a method based on snake model is used for cloud tracking. Snakes are known to be more efficient than level set for contour detection however they do not handle topological changes. Therefore, geometrical criteria are introduced to characterize topological transformations. Geometrical techniques are then combined and inserted in the tracking algorithm to perform morphological operations. By applying this method, a history of the positions of the clouds is obtained. In a second stage, a data model is presented for cloud interrogation. Physical information is introduced and data are organized so that spatiotemporal queries can be performed. Results obtained with the tracking method on a real data set are presented and some query examples are given.
