[Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (Auteur) We present a novel and robust method for modeling cities from 3D-point data. Our algorithm provides a more complete description than existing approaches by reconstructing simultaneously buildings, trees and topologically complex grounds. A major contribution of our work is the original way of modeling buildings which guarantees a high generalization level while having semantized and compact representations. Geometric 3D-primitives such as planes, cylinders, spheres or cones describe regular roof sections, and are combined with mesh-patches that represent irregular roof components. The various urban components interact through a non-convex energy minimization problem in which they are propagated under arrangement constraints over a planimetric map. Our approach is experimentally validated on complex buildings and large urban scenes of millions of points, and is compared to state-of-the-art methods. [Termes IGN] zone humideRésumé : (Auteur) The Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) satellite has opened the era of soil moisture products from passive L-band observations. In this paper, validation of SMOS products over continental U.S. is done by using the Soil Climate Analysis Network (SCAN)/SNOwpack TELemetry (SNOTEL) soil moisture monitoring stations. The SMOS operational products and the SMOS reprocessing products are both used and compared over year 2010. First, a direct node-to-site comparison is performed by taking advantage of the oversampling of the SMOS product grid. The comparison is performed over several adjacent nodes to site, and several representative couples of site-node are identified. The impact of forest fraction is shown through the analysis of different cases across the U.S. Also, the impact of water fraction is shown through two examples in Florida and in Utah close to Great Salt Lake. A radiometric aggregation approach based on the antenna footprint and spatial description is used. A global comparison of the SCAN/SNOTEL versus SMOS is made. Statistics show an underestimation of the soil moisture from SMOS compared to the SCAN/SNOTEL local measurements. The results suggest that SMOS meets the mission requirement of 0.04 m3/m3 over specific nominal cases, but differences are observed over many sites and need to be addressed. [Termes IGN] modèle 3D de l'espace urbainRésumé : (Auteur) This article presents a classifier based on Support Vector Machines (SVMs), an advanced machine learning method for semantic enrichment of coarse 3D city models by deriving the building type. The information on the building type (detached building, terraced building, etc.) is essential for a variety of relevant applications of 3D city models like spatial marketing, real estate management and marketing, and for visualization. The derivation of the building type from coarse data (mainly 2D footprints, building heights and functions) seems impossible at first sight. However it succeeds by incorporating the spatial context of a building. Since the input data can be derived easily and at very low cost, this method is widely applicable. Nevertheless, as with all supervised learning algorithms, obtaining labelled training data is very time-consuming. Herewith, we provide a method which uses outlier detection and clustering methods to support users in efficiently and rapidly obtaining adequate training data. [Termes IGN] triangulation de DelaunayRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents an innovative image matching method for reliable and dense image matching on poor textural images, which is the integrated point and edge matching based on the self-adaptive edge-constrained triangulations. Firstly, several seed points and seed edges are obtained on the stereo images, and they are used to construct a pair of initial edge-constrained triangulations on the images. Then, points and edges are matched based on the triangle constraint and other constraints. The newly matched points and edges are inserted into the triangulations and the constrained triangulations are updated dynamically along with the matching propagation. The final results will be the final edge-constrained triangulations generated from the successfully matched points and edges. Experiments using typical space-borne, airborne, and terrestrial images with poor textures revealed that the integrated point and edge matching method based on self-adaptive triangulations is able to produce dense and reliable matching results. Moreover, from the final matched points and edges, 3D points and edges preserving the physical boundaries of objects can be further derived based on photogrammetric techniques, which is ideal for further object modeling applications.
