[Termes IGN] Pays-BasRésumé : (Auteur) Thematic maps prepared from remotely sensed images require a statistical accuracy assessment. For this purpose, the k-statistic is often used. This statistic does not distinguish between whether one unit is classified as another, or vice versa. In this paper, the Bradley-Terry (BT) model is applied for accuracy assessment. This model compares categories pairwise. The probability of one class over another class is estimated as well as the expected values of class pixels. The study is illustrated with an Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer image from the Netherlands, to which a maximum-likelihood classification with the Euclidean distance is applied. An error matrix is generated using an IKONOS image from the same area as ground truth. It is shown to which degree the BT model extends the K-statistic. A comparison with the Mahalanobis distance is made. Standardization is carried out to overcome problems emerging from the fact that a common BT model does not include the number of correctly classified pixels. The study shows how the BT model serves as an alternative to the usual k-statistic. [Termes IGN] redressement d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) The establishment of monitoring frameworks for environmental problems is frequently based on retrospective, multi-temporal series of satellite images. The derivation of concise conclusions from these series largely depends on their quantitative consistency ; hence, a completely standardized analysis of multi-temporal time series is mandatory. In the context of the required radiometric rectification, sensor calibration is an essential component, the accuracy of which largely determines the overall result. While for newer sensor systems extensive documentation on the development of the sensor's sensitivity exists, older systems often lack the corresponding information.
A methodology has been developed, tested and validated to radiometrically intercalibrate different sensor systems based on the precondition of simultaneous image acquisition, which is for example provided by the Landsat TM and MSS sensor systems hosted on Landsat 5. Different interpolation and processing steps within the procedure have been analyzed, and an intercalibration scheme is proposed to derive Landsat MSS calibration factors from Landsat TM, which is used as a calibrated reference. It supports a full radiometric rectification of Landsat MSS data and enables their incorporation into satellite image time series, which can thus be significantly extended by a maximum of 12 years.Numéro de notice : A2005-163 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1016/j.rse.2004.12.008 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1016/j.rse.2004.12.008 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=27301

[Termes IGN] occupation du solRésumé : (Auteur) A method of sub-pixel land cover estimation including an algorithm for minimizing missing data due to cloud cover was proposed for the purpose of evaluating and monitoring the environment of wide areas. A pair of Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) scenes over coincident multitemporal National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) time-series of directional hemispherical reflectance were used to develop a fine-scale land cover map using either eight or three categories and to estimate the endmembers of the AVHRR image using a positive constrained linear least-squares method. Furthermore, three approaches were evaluated for compositing sub-pixel estimates over cloudy areas in the AVHRR image. Finally, from validation tests made for unmixing and compositing methods, the results suggest that these methods may be generally useful for comparing multispectral images in space and time. [Termes IGN] résolution multipleRésumé : (Auteur) Several earth observation satellites acquire image bands with different spatial resolutions, e.g., a panchromatic band with high resolution and spectral bands with lower resolution. Likewise, we often face the problem of different resolutions when performing joint analysis of images acquired by different satellites. This paper presents models and methods for classification of multiresolution images. The approach is based on the concept of a reference resolution, corresponding to the highest resolution in the dataset Prior knowledge about the spatial characteristics of the classes is specified through a Markov random field model at the reference resolution. Data at coarser scales are modeled as mixed pixels by relating the observations to the classes at the reference resolution. A Bayesian framework for classification based on this multiscale model is proposed. The classification is realized by an iterative conditional modes (ICM) algorithm. The parameter estimation can be based both on a training set and on pixels with unknown class. A computationally efficient scheme based on a combination of the ICM and the expectation-maximization algorithm is proposed. Result obtained on simulated and real satellite images are presented. [Termes IGN] TaïwanRésumé : (Auteur) This study presents an exemplar-based nested hyper-rectangle learning model (NHLM) which is an efficient and accurate supervised classification model. The proposed model is based on the concept of seeding training data in the Euclidean m-space (where m denotes the number of features) as hyper-rectangles. To express the exceptions, these hyper-rectangles may be nested inside one another to an arbitrary depth. The fast and one-shot learning procedures can adjust weights dynamically when new examples are added. Furthermore, the "second chance" heuristic is introduced in NHLM to avoid creating more memory objects than necessary. NHLM is applied to solving the land cover classification problem in Taiwan using remote sensed imagery. The study investigated five land cover classes and clouds. These six classes were chosen from field investigation of the study area according to previous study. Therefore, this paper aims to produce a land cover classification based on SPOT HRV spectral data. Compared with a standard back-propagation neural network (BPN), the experimental results indicate that NHLM provides a powerful tool for categorizing remote sensing data.
