[Termes IGN] transformation intensité-teinte-saturationRésumé : (Auteur) The term “image fusion” covers multiple techniques used to combine the geometric detail of a high-resolution panchromatic image and the color information of a low-resolution multispectral image to produce a final image with the highest possible spatial information content while still preserving good spectral information quality. During the last twenty years, many methods such as Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Multiplicative Transform, Brovey Transform, and IHS Transform have been developed producing good quality fused images. Despite the quite good visual results, many research papers have reported the limitations of the above fusion techniques. The most significant problem is color distortion. Another common problem is that the fusion quality often depends upon the operator’s fusion experience and upon the data set being fused. In this study, we compare the efficiency of nine fusion techniques and more specifically the efficiency of IHS, Modified IHS, PCA, Pansharp, Wavelet, LMM (Local Mean Matching), LMVM (Local Mean and Variance Matching), Brovey, and Multiplicative fusion techniques for the fusion of QuickBird data. The suitability of these fusion techniques for various applications depends on the spectral and spatial quality of the fused images. In order to quantitatively measure the quality of the fused images, we have made the following controls. First, we have examined the visual qualitative result. Then, we examined the correlation between the original multispectral and the fused images and all the statistical parameters of the histograms of the various frequency bands. Finally, we performed an unsupervised classification, and we compared the resulting images. All the fusion techniques improve the resolution and the visual result. The resampling method practically has no effect on the final visual result. The LMVM, the LMM, the Pansharp, and the Wavelet merging technique do not change the statistical parameters of the original images. The Modified IHS provokes minor changes to the statistical parameters than the classical IHS or than the PCA. After all the controls, the LMVM, the LMM, the Pansharp, and the Modified IHS algorithm seem to gather the more advantages in fusion panchromatic and multispectral data. [Termes IGN] précision de la classificationRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, a standardized probability approach is presented to evaluate the pixel labeling confidence of each pixel and then combine the classification maps generated from different classification procedures for improving classification accuracy. This approach examines the posterior probability of the maximum-likelihood classifier or inverse-distance weight for the minimum-distance classifier for each pixel. It recommends that, for every classification, a standardized probability map should be outputted along with the classified map to show the pixel labeling confidence for all pixels. Tests based on different feature combinations and training strategies from Ikonos data show that the proposed approach was effective in improving the labeling confidence, as well as overall classification accuracy when classified maps from different classification procedures were combined. This standardized probability can be used to provide additional spatial information along with the traditional accuracy assessment. [Termes IGN] modèle numérique de surfaceRésumé : (Auteur) A continuous and autonomous co-registration and geo-location of image data from multiple sensors with widely varying view angles and resolution is one of the unique challenges of IRS-P6 data processing. The Liss-4 camera is capable of imaging in either multi-spectral or panchromatic modes with steerability up to +/- 27°. As the satellite sweeps longer strips with oblique viewing configuration, data product generation requires an elevation database to accommodate the errors due to terrain topography. SRTM, GTOPO30, DCW etc. are becoming hidden information to product generation schemes. In this paper, we analyze and justify the requirement of inclusion of a global DEM in the product generation system for Liss-4 data. In the first part of the study, after a brief introduction of sensor model, comparison of elevation from SRTM and GTOPO30 is made which leads towards a conclusion that GTOPO30 is adequate for improving the accuracy. The second part deals with the impact of GTOPO30 on geometric accuracy. Thirdly we analyze the terrain effects on band-to-band registration of Liss-4 multispectral data. A perfect band-to-band registration cannot be achieved without inclusion of digital elevation model. Many Liss-4 data sets with different tilts that cover terrain patches with flat, rolling and highly undulating nature are studied and the results reported. [Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (Auteur) Due to the more heterogeneous spectral-radiometric characteristics within urban land-use/cover units in very-high spatial resolution imagery, the traditional pixel-wise statistical and monoscale based classification approaches do not lead to satisfactory results. The main drawback of these methods is that they neglect the shape and context aspects of the image information, which are among the main clues for information extraction at very-high spatial resolutions. This paper presents a pre-classification filtering strategy based on unsupervised multiresolution non-linear image filtering that combines spectral and textural (spectex) image characteristics. In a multiscale model, the local texture characteristics are extracted via wavelet decomposition. The multiscale wavelets texture is then used to control the multiresolution spectral filtering process using the non-linear anisotropic diffusion approach. From the multiresolution non-linear filtering procedure, scale sub-bands suitable for urban-trees extraction are selected. The selected bands are integrated with a normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and a principal components transformation (PCT) for classification using a decision-tree (DT) non-parametric classifier. The DT results are compared with the statistical maximum-likelihood classifier. It has been demonstrated that with Quickbird imagery a classification based on the filtered imagery improved the extraction accuracy of urban-trees by 11.7% using the parametric maximum-likelihood classifier, and by 22.5% using the non-parametric decision-tree classifier. This is an increase from a 70.8% extraction accuracy when the respective methods are not used. The results further indicate that the non-linear filtering approach is superior to the linear (median) filtering technique, by 20.8% with respect to classification accuracy. [Termes IGN] variation saisonnièreRésumé : (Auteur) The goal of this study is to demonstrate the asset in using a Kalman filter to improve the spatial coherence and time consistency of surface Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function (BRDF) and albedo retrievals from moderate resolution sensor data sets. For this purpose, we use a simple surface model describing BRDF seasonal evolution for the land cover classes of the ECOCLIMAP database. The application of temporal composition windows used so far for BRDF retrieval is limited in regions characterized by a high frequency of cloud coverage, which induces a lot of gaps in the temporal series. Instead, the present method ensures a continuous production of surface BRDF parameters thanks to the Kalman filter recursive data processing. An application of the method is performed with SPOT/VEGETATION data over the western Africa equatorial region for the year 2003. Compared to presently available products from VEGETATION and MODIS instruments, this new approach allows to fill the gaps and improves the retrieved parameters time consistency. Another interesting possibility of the Kalman filter is the production of surface biophysical variables in quasi-real-time for applications that require a frequent update of the surface parameters.
