[Termes IGN] système de numérisation mobileRésumé : (éditeur) This book argues for a theory of mobile mapping, a situated and spatial approach towards researching how everyday digital mobile media practices are bound up in global systems of knowledge and power. Drawing from literature in media studies and geography - and the work of Michel Foucault and Doreen Massey - it examines how geographical and historical material, social, and cultural conditions are embedded in the way in which contemporary (digital) cartographies are read, deployed, and engaged. This is explored through seventeen walking interviews in Hong Kong and Sydney, as potent discourses like cartographic reason continue to transform and weave through the world in ways that haunt mobile mapping and bring old conflicts into new media. In doing so, Mobile Mapping offers an interdisciplinary rethinking about how multiple translations of spatial knowledges between rational digital epistemologies and tacit ways of understanding space and experience might be conceptualized and researched. [Vedettes matières IGN] ForesterieMots-clés libres : FORWIND Résumé : (auteur) Strong winds may uproot and break trees and represent a major natural disturbance for European forests. Wind disturbances have intensified over the last decades globally and are expected to further rise in view of the effects of climate change. Despite the importance of such natural disturbances, there are currently no spatially explicit databases of wind-related impact at a pan-European scale. Here, we present a new database of wind disturbances in European forests (FORWIND). FORWIND is comprised of more than 80 000 spatially delineated areas in Europe that were disturbed by wind in the period 2000–2018 and describes them in a harmonized and consistent geographical vector format. The database includes all major windstorms that occurred over the observational period (e.g. Gudrun, Kyrill, Klaus, Xynthia and Vaia) and represents approximately 30 % of the reported damaging wind events in Europe. Correlation analyses between the areas in FORWIND and land cover changes retrieved from the Landsat-based Global Forest Change dataset and the MODIS Global Disturbance Index corroborate the robustness of FORWIND. Spearman rank coefficients range between 0.27 and 0.48 (p value Numéro de notice : A2020-874 Affiliation des auteurs : IGN+Ext (2012-2019) Thématique : FORET Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.5194/essd-12-257-2020 Date de publication en ligne : 10/02/2020 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.5194/essd-12-257-2020 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=99655

[Termes IGN] traitement du langage naturelRésumé : (auteur) In this paper, we propose and discuss a methodology to map the spatial fingerprints of novels and authors based on all of the named urban roads (i.e., odonyms) extracted from novels. We present several ways to explore Parisian space and fictional landscapes by interactively and simultaneously browsing geographical space and literary text. Our project involves building a platform capable of retrieving, mapping and analyzing the occurrences of named urban roads in novels in which the action occurs wholly or partly in Paris. This platform will be used in several areas, such as cultural tourism, urban research, and literary analysis. The paper focuses on extracting named urban roads and mapping the results for a sample of 31 novels published between 1800 and 1914. Two approaches to the annotation of odonyms are compared. First, we describe a proof of concept using queries made via the TXM textual analysis platform. Then, we describe an automatic process using a natural language processing (NLP) method. Additionally, we mention how the geosemantic information annotated from the text (e.g., a structure combining verbs, spatial relations, named entities, adjectives and adverbs) can be used to automatically characterize the semantic content associated with named urban roads. [Termes IGN] terminologieRésumé : (auteur) In 2008, the Network of Actors for the History and Memory of Immigration (RAHMI) launched an experimental gathering program to collect the forgotten memory of immigrant populations involved in the local community. Various groups of people were targeted by this collection, which made it possible to record life stories, including those of Spanish Republicans who went into exile in France between 1936 and 1939, and participated in the French Resistance. The MATRICIEL project (PEPS CNRS UPE 2016) focused on the migration of these Spanish Republicans in terms of the places mentioned in their stories, and the sentiments associated with these places. The project aimed to mainstream the migrants’ voices in the analysis; the objects of study chosen: the places, designated by a proper name: Barcelona, or a common name: internment camp, and the associated sentiments distinguished by their polarity: positive or negative, contribute to enhancing oral archives for the construction of an immigration memory. In this article, we present the approach implemented for a multidisciplinary analysis of the life story corpus, which combines methods and tools for natural language processing and mapping. The identification of common noun places mentioned in the stories was conducted through a supervised learning model. The identification and subsequent mapping of proper name places highlight the spatial distribution of the witnesses’ life courses, determined by the historical context and personal choices. The semi-automatic sentiment annotation adds polarity to the stories. In perspective, the analysis of common noun place types will make it possible to evaluate the granularity used by witnesses to describe their lived spaces; their location will help to specify the spatiality of the stories.
