[Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (auteur) Landslide susceptibility is an important topic mainly because its geo-spatial analysis provides a useful tool for planning, disaster management and hazard mitigation. In this study, the aim is to identify and analyze landslide susceptibility at a local spatial scale, which is represented by the town of Handlová, using the multi-criteria evaluation (i.e., the analytical hierarchy process technique – AHP) and geographic information systems (GIS). The following landslide conditioning factors were selected representing the local terrain predispositions: slope angle, geology, slope aspect, elevation, distance from rivers, distance from faults and land use. The raster-based analysis was performed using the spatial resolution of 10 × 10 m. The weights for each factor were determined by the AHP technique where slope angle had the highest relative importance. Based on the resulting susceptibility map, 51.98% out of the total study area is characterized by high and very high susceptibility class. The Atlas of Slope Stability of the Slovak Republic, which contains past landslides until 2006, was used for verification of the results. The verification confirmed a moderate accuracy between the landslide susceptibility map and landslide inventory from the atlas since 60.8% of all landslide areas from the atlas corresponded with high and very high susceptibility class. [Termes IGN] système de coordonnéesRésumé : (auteur) Unlike modern maps, geometric maps lack a coordinate system and contain unsystematic geometric inaccuracies. This paper illuminates four aspects concerning the problem of uniting geographical information technology with old geometric maps. These are as follows: first, the origin of and geometric qualities in the representation of objects in geometric maps; second, the distortions originating from measurement techniques; third, the assumption that it is possible to find points that are the same over time for rectification in Geographic Information System (GIS); and, fourth, the extrapolation of unsystematic geometric distortions when using GIS techniques without any knowledge of the present unsystematic distortions in a map. The article presents the background of Swedish geometric maps and a hypothetical example is used to present the principle problems of using GIS techniques to rectify geometric maps. The conclusion of the paper is that systematic and unsystematic geometric distortions need to be identified and handled separately. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Across most urban centres, adequate supply of water becomes essential for the urban poor. Attempts at ensuring water availability has been formulated using standard water models. This study developed a water balance model using Remote Sensing and GIS techniques during periods of water surplus and deficit across pre-millennium (1996 – 2000) and the post-millennium (2010 – 2014) periods within an urbanized Sub-Saharan city. Digital Elevation Model of the basin was prepared to generate flow direction and to delimit the watershed using ArcHydro tools in ArcGIS 10.3. Supervised classification was used to delineate the landuse classes from Landsat imageries. The result revealed that 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2010 and 2013 were periods of water deficit, while 1999, 2011, 2012 and 2014 were periods of water surplus. This study affirmed the need to reactivate institutional frameworks that are responsible for assessment, conservation, management and planning of water resources for sustainable utilization. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (auteur) This research presents the formalization and verification of the methodology for the automatic generalization of buildings, road networks, forests and surface waters from the Topographic Objects Database (BDOT10k) in Poland. The article makes the following contributions. First, the generalization methodology contained in the official documents was acquired and presented in the form of the knowledge base. Second, the possibilities and limitations of the implementation of the knowledge base in ArcGIS were discussed. Third, the suitability of the BDOT10k structure for the purpose of automatic generalization performance was verified. As a result of the conducted generalization tests, it was found that the formalization and implementation of the methodology contained in the official specifications, in the automatic mode are not entirely possible. The generalization results, however, are promising. The presented research is in line with the studies recently conducted not only by Polish but also other European National Mapping Agencies.
