[Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) Staring spotlight images with a spatial resolution of up to tens of centimeters are good data sources for urban applications including displacement mapping. However, phase discontinuities, layover, and shadowing effect are also associated with staring spotlight interferograms, adding to the difficulties in height estimation and spatial phase unwrapping. The scattering mechanism of the staring spotlight images in the urban environment is complicated, thus it is difficult to simulate and remove the reference height of staring spotlight interferograms directly. In addition, global spatial phase unwrapping networks tend to smooth phase discontinuities. With the aim of implementing height estimation and phase unwrapping for TerraSAR-X Staring Spotlight interferograms, a workflow for phase unmixing of TerraSAR-X staring spotlight interferograms is proposed in this paper. The PS height is estimated in the baseline domain rather than the spatial domain. Taking into account the length and height change of each connection, the spatial phase unwrapping network is adjusted and segmented into isolated networks. The connected components of the adjusted spatial phase unwrapping network can be identified using graph theory. Spatial phase unwrapping is implemented in individual networks. The unfolded height phase is separated from the unwrapped phase, and the remaining phase is deformation dominated. Compared with the traditional global spatial phase unwrapping method, this study demonstrates the feasibility of the proposed least squares parameter search and graph partition based workflow in urban area, for phase unmixing of TerraSAR-X staring spotlight interferograms in building scale for PS height and deformation, as evidenced by external LiDAR DSM and temperature records. [Termes IGN] précision des donnéesRésumé : (auteur) Traditional landscape photographs reaching back until the second half of the nineteenth century represent a valuable image source for the study of long-term landscape change. Due to the oblique perspective and the lack of geographical reference, landscape photographs are hardly used for quantitative research. In this study, oblique landscape photographs from the Norwegian landscape monitoring program are georeferenced using the WSL Monoplotting Tool with the aim of evaluating the accuracy of point and polygon features. In addition, the study shows how the resolution of the chosen digital terrain model and other factors affect accuracy. Points mapped on the landscape photograph had a mean displacement of 1.52 m from their location on a corresponding aerial photograph, while mapped areas deviated on average 5.6% in size. The resolution of the DTM, the placement of GCPs and the angle of incidence were identified as relevant factors to achieve accurate geospatial data. An example on forest expansion at the abandoned mountain farm Flysetra in Mid-Norway demonstrates how repeat photography facilitates the georectification process in the absence of reliable ground control points (GCPs) in very old photographs. [Termes IGN] température de surface de la merRésumé : (auteur) A model function of seawater, which specifies the dielectric constant of seawater as a function of salinity, temperature, and frequency, is important for the retrieval of sea surface salinity using satellite data. In 2017, a model function has been developed based on measurement data at 1.4134 GHz using a third-order polynomial expression in salinity ( S ) and temperature ( T ). Although the model showed improvements in salinity retrieval, it had an inconsistent behavior between partitioned salinities. To improve the stability of the model, new dielectric measurements of seawater have been made recently over a broad range of salinities and temperatures to expand the data set used for developing the model function. The structure of the model function has been changed from a polynomial expansion in S and T to a physics-based model consisting of a Debye molecular resonance term plus a conductivity term. Each unknown parameter is expressed in S and T based on the expanded measurement data set. Physical arguments have been used to limit the number of unknown coefficients in these expressions to improve the stability of the model function. The new model function has been employed in the retrieval algorithm of the Aquarius satellite mission to obtain a global salinity map. The retrieved salinity using a different model function is compared with in situ data collected by Argo floats to evaluate the impact and the performance of model functions. The results indicate that the new model function has significant improvements in salinity retrieval compared with other existing models. [Termes IGN] réflectance spectraleRésumé : (Auteur) This paper introduces a satellite-based cross-calibration (SCC) method for spectral reflectance estimation of unmanned aircraft system (UAS) multispectral imagery. The SCC method provides a low-cost and feasible solution to convert high-resolution UAS images in digital numbers (DN) to reflectance when satellite data is available. The proposed method is evaluated using a multispectral data set, including orthorectified KHawk UAS DN imagery and Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager Level-2 surface reflectance (SR) data over a forest/grassland area. The estimated UAS reflectance images are compared with the National Ecological Observatory Network's imaging spectrometer (NIS) SR data for validation. The UAS reflectance showed high similarities with the NIS data for the near-infrared and red bands with Pearson's r values being 97 and 95.74, and root-mean-square errors being 0.0239 and 0.0096 over a 32-subplot hayfield. [Termes IGN] SuisseRésumé : (auteur) The measurement of leaf optical properties (LOP) using reflectance and scattering properties of light allows a continuous, time-resolved, and rapid characterization of many species traits including water status, chemical composition, and leaf structure. Variation in trait values expressed by individuals result from a combination of biological and environmental variations. Such species trait variations are increasingly recognized as drivers and responses of biodiversity and ecosystem properties. However, little has been done to comprehensively characterize or monitor such variation using leaf reflectance, where emphasis is more often on species average values. Furthermore, although a variety of platforms and protocols exist for the estimation of leaf reflectance, there is neither a standard method, nor a best practise of treating measurement uncertainty which has yet been collectively adopted. In this study, we investigate what level of uncertainty can be accepted when measuring leaf reflectance while ensuring the detection of species trait variation at several levels: within individuals, over time, between individuals, and between populations. As a study species, we use an economically and ecologically important dominant European tree species, namely Fagus sylvatica. We first use fabrics as standard material to quantify measurement uncertainties associated with leaf clip (0.0001 to 0.4 reflectance units) and integrating sphere measurements (0.0001 to 0.01 reflectance units) via error propagation. We then quantify spectrally resolved variation in reflectance from F. sylvatica leaves. We show that the measurement uncertainty associated with leaf reflectance, estimated using a field spectroradiometer with attached leaf clip, represents on average a small portion of the spectral variation within a single individual sampled over one growing season (2.7 ± 1.7%), or between individuals sampled over one week (1.5 ± 1.3% or 3.4 ± 1.7%, respectively) in a set of monitored F. sylvatica trees located in Swiss and French forests. In all forests, the spectral variation between individuals exceeded the spectral variation of a single individual at the time of the measurement. However, measurements of variation within individuals at different canopy positions over time indicate that sampling design (e.g., standardized sampling, and sample size) strongly impacts our ability to measure between-individual variation. We suggest best practice approaches toward a standardized protocol to allow for rigorous quantification of species trait variation using leaf reflectance.
