[Termes IGN] vision stéréoscopiqueRésumé : (auteur) Recovering 3D geometry from cameras in underwater applications involves the Refractive Structure-from-Motion problem where the non-linear distortion of light induced by a change of medium density invalidates the single viewpoint assumption. The pinhole-plus-distortion camera projection model suffers from a systematic geometric bias since refractive distortion depends on object distance. This leads to inaccurate camera pose and 3D shape estimation. To account for refraction, it is possible to use the axial camera model or to explicitly consider one or multiple parallel refractive interfaces whose orientations and positions with respect to the camera can be calibrated. Although it has been demonstrated that the refractive camera model is well-suited for underwater imaging, Refractive Structure-from-Motion remains particularly difficult to use in practice when considering the seldom studied case of a camera with a flat refractive interface. Our method applies to the case of underwater imaging systems whose entrance lens is in direct contact with the external medium. By adopting the refractive camera model, we provide a succinct derivation and expression for the refractive fundamental matrix and use this as the basis for a novel two-view reconstruction method for underwater imaging. For validation we use synthetic data to show the numerical properties of our method and we provide results on real data to demonstrate its practical application within laboratory settings and for medical applications in fluid-immersed endoscopy. We demonstrate our approach outperforms classic two-view Structure-from-Motion method relying on the pinhole-plus-distortion camera model. [Termes IGN] zone sinistréeRésumé : (auteur) Shrubs growing in former burnt areas play two diametrically opposed roles. On the one hand, they protect the soil against erosion, promote rainwater infiltration, carbon sequestration and support animal life. On the other hand, after the shrubs’ density reaches a particular size for the canopy to touch and the shrubs’ biomass accumulates more than 10 Mg ha−1, they create the necessary conditions for severe wild fires to occur and spread. The creation of a methodology suitable to identify former burnt areas and to track shrubs’ regrowth within these areas in a regular and a multi temporal basis would be beneficial. The combined use of geographical information systems (GIS) and remote sensing (RS) supported by dedicated land survey and field work for data collection has been identified as a suitable method to manage these tasks. The free access to Sentinel images constitutes a valuable tool for updating the GIS project and for the monitoring of regular shrubs’ accumulated biomass. Sentinel 2 VIS-NIR images are suitable to classify rural areas (overall accuracy = 79.6% and Cohen’s K = 0.754) and to create normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) images to be used in association to allometric equations for the shrubs’ biomass estimation (R2 = 0.8984, p-value Numéro de notice : A2020-654 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : FORET/IMAGERIE Nature : Article DOI : 10.3390/f11050555 Date de publication en ligne : 14/05/2020 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.3390/f11050555 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=96116

[Termes IGN] volcanologieRésumé : (auteur) The morning of November 23, 2013, a lava fountain formed from the New South-East Crater (NSEC) of Mt. Etna (Italy), one of the most active volcanoes in Europe. The explosive activity was observed from two ground-based radars, the X-band polarimetric scanning and the L-band Doppler fixed-pointing, as well as from a thermal-infrared camera. Taking advantage of the capability of the microwave radars to probe the volcanic plume and extending the volcanic ash radar retrieval (VARR) methodology, we estimate the mass eruption rate (MER) using three main techniques, namely surface-flux approach (SFA), mass continuity-based approach (MCA), and top-plume approach (TPA), as well as provide a quantitative evaluation of their uncertainty. Estimated exit velocities are between 160 and 230 m/s in the paroxysmal phase. The intercomparison between the SFA, MCA, and TPA methods, in terms of retrieved MER, shows a fairly good consistency with values up to $2.4\times 10^{6}$ kg/s. The estimated total erupted mass (TEM) is $3.8\times 10^{9}$ , $3.9\times 10^{9}$ , and $4.7\times 10^{9}$ kg for SFA with L-band, X-band, and thermal-infrared camera, respectively. Estimated TEM is between $1.7\times 10^{9}$ kg and $4.3\times 10^{9}$ for TPA methods and $3.9\times 10^{9}$ kg for the MCA technique. The SFA, MCA, and TPA results for TEM are in fairly good agreement with independent evaluations derived from ground collection of tephra deposit and estimated to be between $1.3\,\,\pm \,\,1.1\times 10^{9}$ and $5.7\times 10^{9}$ kg. This article shows that complementary strategies of ground-based remote sensing systems can provide an accurate real-time monitoring of a volcanic explosive activity. [Termes IGN] trajectoire (véhicule non spatial)Résumé : (auteur) A positioning approach combining satellite measurements with a map representing the ground-truth trajectory is developed with the main objective of improving the availability of solutions for a mobile vehicle. For the positioning model, the Precise Point Positioning (PPP) technique is augmented with an alternative map-matching to find a probable space where the true vehicle or platform position is located. Then, by using a selection criterion based on the precise carrier phase residuals, the best candidate position within the space can be determined. This process provides an accurate initial position to the PPP filter, different from the standard PPP approach that relies on a point position using the less accurate pseudorange observables. A controlled experiment of a mobile receiver navigating over a pre-defined trajectory was conducted. The results show that the approach offers an instantaneous initial convergence, eliminating the re-convergences during two GNSS obstructions of 32 and 17 seconds, while constantly keeping the solution on the correct trajectory, even when tracking 3 to 2 satellites. This approach outperforms the standard PPP and RTK solutions in terms of convergences and re-convergences. These results are corroborated when comparing the average and standard deviation of residuals to the standard PPP model. For the pseudorange residuals, improvements of 17.5 cm and 24.3 cm in the average and standard deviation respectively were achieved. The carrier phase residuals standard deviation of the proposed approach was 3 cm better than that of the standard PPP. [Termes IGN] visualisation de donnéesRésumé : (auteur) Hyperspectral Image (HSI) visualization, which aims at displaying as much material information of original images as possible on a trichromatic monitor with natural color, plays an important role in image interpretation and analysis. However, most of the HSI visualization methods only focus on presenting the detail information of a scene without providing natural colors and distinguishing land covers with similar colors. In order to address this problem, this article proposes a multichannel pulse-coupled neural network (MPCNN)-based HSI visualization method, which consists of the following steps. First, the MPCNN is proposed and explored to fuse the original HSI so as to obtain a fused band with rich spatial details. Then, a color mapping scheme is proposed to determine the weights of red, green, and blue (RGB) channels. Finally, the weighted RGB channels are stacked together for visualization. Experiments performed on four hyperspectral data sets demonstrate that the proposed method not only displays the HSI with nature colors but also improves the details in the image. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated in terms of both visual effect and objective indexes.
