[Termes IGN] signalRésumé : (auteur) Accurate ranging and wideband tracking are treated as two independent and separate processes in traditional radar systems. As a result, limited by low data rate due to nonsequential processing, accurate ranging usually performs low efficiency in practical application. Similarly, without applying accurate ranging, the data after thresholding and clustering are used in wideband tracking, leading to a significant decrease in tracking accuracy. In this article, an integrated Kalman filter of accurate ranging and tracking is proposed using methods of phase-derived-ranging and Bayesian inference in wideband radar. Besides the motion state, in this integrated Kalman filter, the complex-valued high-resolution range profile (HRRP) is also introduced as a reference signal by coherent integration in a sliding window, which incorporates target’s scattering distribution and phase characteristics. Corresponding kinetic equations are derived to predict the motion state and the reference signal in the next moment. A ranging process is constructed based on the received signal and the predicted reference signal in order to estimate innovation using methods of phase-derived-ranging and Bayesian inference, and a sequential update for motion state can be accomplished with the Kalman filter as well. In every recursion, the complex-valued reference signal is also updated by coherently integrating the latest pulses. The integrated Kalman filter takes full use of high range resolution and phase information, improving both efficiency and precision compared with conventional approaches of ranging and wideband tracking. Implemented in a sequential manner, the integrated Kalman filter can be applied in a real-time application, realizing simultaneous ranging with high precision and wideband tracking. Finally, simulated and real-measured experiments confirm the remarkable performance. [Termes IGN] vapeur d'eauRésumé : (Auteur) The atmospheric precipitable water vapour (PWV) plays a crucial role in the hydrological cycle and energy transfer on a global scale. Radiosonde (RS), sunphotometer (SP) and GPS (as well as broader GNSS) receivers have gradually been the principal instruments for ground-based PWV observation. This study first co-locates the observation stations configured the three instruments in the globe and in three typical latitudinal climatic regions respectively, then the PWV data from the three instruments are matched each other according to the observing times. After the outliers are removed from the matched data pairs, the PWV intercomparisons for any two instruments are performed. The results show that the PWV estimates from any two instruments have a good agreement with very high correlation coefficients. The latitude and climate have no significant influence on the PWV measurements from the three instruments, indicating that the instruments are very stable and depend on their performance. The PWV differences of any two instruments display the normal distribution, indicating non-systematic biases among the two PWV datasets. The relative differences between SP and GPS are the smallest, the middle between SP and RS, and those between GPS and RS are the largest. This study will be useful to promote GPS (GNSS) and SP PWV to be a substitute for RS PWV as a benchmark because of their high temporal resolutions. [Termes IGN] réflectance végétaleRésumé : (Auteur) The Bidirectional polarization distribution function (BPDF) of land surfaces is important for studies of land surfaces and aerosol. With the availability of a huge number of polarization measurements, several semi-empirical BPDF models have been proposed. However, these models do not pay much attention to canopy structure, which is fundamental for generation of polarization. In this article, we propose a new BPDF model using canopy structure information, which is parameterized by visible-sunlit areas. It is evaluated over grassland using POLDER BPDF and MODIS leaf area index data sets. Experiments suggest that compared to Nadal–Bréon and Litvinov models, the new BPDF model reduces root-mean-square error by 7% and 10%, respectively. The new BPDF model also provides better performance when it is fitted using observations clustered by sun zenith angle. The new BPDF model thus provides an effective tool for the study of land surface polarization. [Termes IGN] radiofréquenceRésumé : (Auteur) Depuis l’avènement des mesureurs de distance utilisant les ondes radioélectriques, qui furent détrônées d’ailleurs rapidement par la mesure de phase sur l’infrarouge et depuis le laser, les topographes avec l’arrivée du GPS puis du GNSS se sont habitués à des instruments de mesure basés sur le temps de propagation d’une onde électromagnétique. Les navigateurs, eux, ont une longue expérience de ces systèmes et avant le GPS, des systèmes comme le Syledis de la société française Sercel ont apporté des solutions basées sur des balises fixes (transpondeurs) organisées en réseau ou chaîne. Mais le GNSS connaît des limitations qui empêchent son usage à l’intérieur des habitations au sens large. Les parkings, les tunnels, les rues étroites dans les villes, le couvert forestier dense sont autant d’espaces où l’on ne peut obtenir sa position de manière précise. Que dire alors des ateliers, des halls d’assemblage et de stockage ? En 2005, la société australienne Locata débuta le développement d’un système de positionnement, similaire dans son architecture aux pseudolites. Ces pseudolites sont des balises qui émettent sur la bande de fréquences L1 du GPS un message similaire à ceux des satellites. Ils furent conçus au départ pour valider le système GPS. Mais l’utilisation de la fréquence L1 du GPS étant réservée, cette société entreprit d’utiliser la bande de fréquences libre ISM (milieu industriel, scientifique et médical). Depuis, d’autres sociétés ont entrepris des développements similaires en exploitant l’Ultra Wideband (ou bande ultra large) en répondant aux besoins des sociétés désireuses de positionner des machines et des opérateurs dans des endroits où le GNSS n’est pas fonctionnel. [Termes IGN] temps de propagationRésumé : (auteur) We present a deep-learning method for a single-station earthquake location, which we approach as a regression problem using two separate Bayesian neural networks. We use a multitask temporal convolutional neural network to learn epicentral distance and P travel time from 1-min seismograms. The network estimates epicentral distance and P travel time with mean errors of 0.23 km and 0.03 s and standard deviations of 5.42 km and 0.66 s, respectively, along with their epistemic and aleatory uncertainties. We design a separate multi-input network using standard convolutional layers to estimate the back-azimuth angle and its epistemic uncertainty. This network estimates the direction from which seismic waves arrive at the station with a mean error of 1°. Using this information, we estimate the epicenter, origin time, and depth along with their confidence intervals. We use a global data set of earthquake signals recorded within 1° (~112 km) from the event to build the model and demonstrate its performance. Our model can predict epicenter, origin time, and depth with mean errors of 7.3 km, 0.4 s, and 6.7 km, respectively, at different locations around the world. Our approach can be used for fast earthquake source characterization with a limited number of observations and also for estimating the location of earthquakes that are sparsely recorded—either because they are small or because stations are widely separated.
