Leur multiplication s'explique par le développement exponentiel des outils informatisés et la diversification des champs d'application où on les utilise. Prenons comme exemple les cartes qui représentent des risques sur un territoire. Les gouvernements et les média mènent de nombreuses actions pour sensibiliser la population aux risques et aux catastrophes naturelles ou technologiques. La carte de risque est un outil essentiel de négociation, de communication et d'information sur les risques. Tout d'abord, elle aide à prendre des décisions ou à négocier des aménagements futurs d'un territoire. Ensuite, elle est utilisée pour réglementer les occupations du sol. Enfin, la carte s'avère un outil d'information pour tout public souhaitant connaître la localisation des risques sur un territoire. Dans tous les cas de figure, la carte doit être claire pour être comprise par son lecteur. Or, les données sont parfois difficiles à cartographier car elles peuvent être denses localement ou se chevaucher comme dans les cartes de risque. Nous pensons qu'une utilisation de la couleur plus efficace peut rendre une carte plus lisible. Ceci nous amène à poser deux objectifs pour notre recherche : le premier est de rendre la carte plus lisible et donc plus efficace en améliorant ses contrastes colorés ; le second consiste à améliorer la lisibilité des cartes automatiquement, grâce à un système d'évaluation et de proposition fonctionnant de lui-même. L'approche adoptée pour mieux cerner les éléments qui interviennent dans l'élaboration et la lecture des contrastes colorés est pluridisciplinaire (sciences physiques, psychologie, peinture). Elle permet de fixer deux types de données de référence à introduire dans notre futur modèle : une palette de couleurs de référence organisées selon leurs teinte, clarté et saturation ; une base de connaissances sur les contrastes colorés, qui s'appuie sur les contrastes colorés proposés par J. Itten (peintre et graphiste suisse du 20eme siècle), pour savoir quels contrastes permettent de représenter correctement des relations de différence, association ou ordre entre les signes cartographiques. Suite à cette analyse, nous proposons de développer un modèle qui améliore automatiquement les contrastes de couleur dans les cartes en analysant les contrastes autour de chaque objet cartographique selon son voisinage coloré : 1-Un schéma d'organisation des données sert de réceptacle aux données de l'utilisateur et aux légendes. Le graphique (dont la couleur) est structuré sous la forme d'objets, ce qui facilite la réalisation de nombreuses actions sur ces objets telles que leur création, leur récupération, leur manipulation ou leur modification. 2-Un processus automatique d'amélioration des contrastes est mis en œuvre. Il consiste à effectuer plusieurs cycles itératifs qui font passer la carte d'un état valide à un état validé suivant. Cycle après cycle, la carte devient plus lisible et donc mieux contrastée. Pendant chaque cycle, un nombre limité de couleurs est modifié. L'ensemble des cycles permet de résoudre les plus mauvais contrastes de la carte. Un prototype ARiCo (Amélioration automatique des Cartes de Risque par le Contraste coloré) est développé pour valider notre modèle. Note de contenu : Introduction générale

[Termes IGN] tsunamiIndex. décimale : THESE Thèses et HDR Résumé : (auteur) Ce travail de thèse fait l’objet d’une étude sur le couplage entre la Terre solide et ses enveloppes fluides, qu’il s’agisse de l’océan, de l’atmosphère neutre ou de sa partie ionisée. Les anomalies atmosphériques et ionosphériques de nature sismique seront traitées en détail avec une attention particulière aux effets produits par la propagation de l’onde de Rayleigh et de tsunamis. L’effet de la première sur le plasma ionosphérique a été mis en évidence depuis les années soixante grâce aux observations par sondeur Doppler et, récemment, par GPS via la mesure du contenu électronique total (TEC). La perturbation ionosphérique produite par l’onde de Rayleigh du séisme du 28 mars 2005 (M! = 8.2) et observée par sondeur Doppler et radar transhorizon a été analysée ici à la lumière des modélisations. Ceci a permis de valider la détection par radar transhorizon, jamais prouvée auparavant, ajoutant un outil très puissant à la sismologie ionosphérique. Concernant la détection de tsunamis par sondage ionosphérique, suggérée théoriquement en 1972, elle restait, jusqu’au 26 décembre 2004, très difficile à prouver vue la difficulté de distinguer les perturbations tsunamigéniques des perturbations ionosphériques itinérantes (TIDs). Sans négliger les anomalies observées dans le plasma ionosphérique lors du tsunami de Sumatra, qui seront passées en revue, l’effort premier de ce travail a été le développement d’une méthode de modélisation 3D du couplage océan-atmosphère-ionosphère. Cela a permis d’une part de reproduire la signature tsunamigénique observée le 26 décembre 2004 dans les données du TEC des satellites Topex/Poseidon et Jason-1, d’autre part d’explorer synthétiquement les méthodes de sondage ionosphérique aptes à la détection des tsunamis. Ces résultats, validant l’existence et la détectabilité de la signature ionosphérique des tsunamis, ouvrent d’excitantes perspectives dans la détection et la surveillance des océans. [Termes IGN] troposphèreIndex. décimale : THESE Thèses et HDR Résumé : (auteur) La capacité du Système Global de Positionnement (GPS) à détecter la vapeur d’eau troposphérique a fait ses preuves il y a maintenant plus d’une dizaine d’années. Le GPS, par sa précision de la mesure du contenu intégré en vapeur d’eau (IWV) équivalente à celle des autres instruments de mesures météorologiques, est devenu aujourd’hui la technique d’observation opérationnelle de la vapeur d’eau troposphérique la plus attractive. Le nombre des récepteurs au sol utilisables pour des applications météorologiques est en croissance continue, avec actuellement plus de 100 stations en France.
La zone Cévennes-Vivarais et son extension jusque la Méditerranée a été choisie par l’OHMCV (Observatoire Hydrométéorologique-Méditerranéen des Cévennes-Vivarais) pour la fréquence et la représentativité à l’échelle nationale et internationale des événements de pluies intenses qu’elle subit. Depuis 2002, des campagnes automnales de mesures GPS y sont menées dans le but d’améliorer notre connaissance du champ de vapeur d’eau troposphérique associé aux événements de pluie intense. Les observations GPS météorologiques sont les ZTD (délais troposphériques au zénith d’un site) et les gradients de délais. Exprimé par une composante Est-Ouest (GEW) et une composante Nord-Sud (GNS), le gradient de délai traduit l’anisotropie du champ de vapeur d’eau à proximité du site GPS.
Pour le traitement des observations GPS des réseaux permanents et temporaires de la région de l’OHM-CV, une configuration optimale a été recherchée à partir de différents tests de sensibilité. Une précision de 5 mm sur les ZTD peut être obtenue avec cette stratégie d’estimation optimisée pour le réseau régional GPS de la région de l’OHM-CV ; GEW est précis à 6 mm près, alors que GNS apparaît moins précis (à 12 mm près) du fait de l’abscence de satellite survolant le pôle Nord.
Afin de préparer l’assimilation des observations GPS par les systèmes d’assimilation de données à méso-échelle de Météo-France (ALADIN et le futur modèle de Météo-France AROME), des simulateurs de délais zénithaux ont été implémentés dans le modèle nonhydrostatique à haute résolution Méso-NH. Le laboratoire numérique que constitue le modèle Méso-NH a été un moyen efficace de quantifier la sensibilité des simulations de délais à différentes formulations de la réfractivité atmosphérique. La contribution des hydrométéores aux délais a pu être quantifiée à partir d’une simulation des inondations du Gard de septembre 2002 (jusqu’à 70 mm). D’autre part la sur-estimation des délais établie par la formulation du délai hydrostatique ZHD, basée sur l’approximation hydrostatique et fonction de la pression au sol, a pu être mise en évidence (jusqu’à 18 mm). L’incertitude moyenne sur l’IWV converti à partir du délai humide ZWD par le coefficient •(TS), fonction de la température au sol (TS), a pu être évaluée (inférieure à 0.6 kg/m2). Il apparaît néanmoins préférable d’assimiler le ZTD plutôt que l’IWV dans les modèles de prévision, étant donnée notamment l’incertitude associée à la formulation hydrostatique du ZHD lors d’événements de pluie intense ou à l’absence de mesures de pression à proximité immédiate du capteur GPS.
Le potentiel de données de ZTD issus d’un réseau GPS à méso-échelle pour valider des simulations à haute résolution (2-3 km) d’événements précipitants a aussi été démontré sur le cas des inondations du Gard de septembre 2002. En comparant aux observations de ZTD, trois simulations Méso-NH différant par leurs conditions initiales, on montre que la simulation, qui reproduit le mieux les précipitations, est aussi celle la plus proche des observations GPS.
L’implémentation dans le modèle d’une estimation des délais obliques (STD) en direction des satellites a également permis de proposer une nouvelle méthode de simulation des paramètres troposphériques plus proche du traitement des données GPS observées. Cette nouvelle méthode permet de réduire l’écart entre les paramètres troposphériques simulés et ceux issus du traitement GPS. Appliquée aux situations de pluie intense des 8-9 septembre 2002 et du 3 décembre 2003, bien reproduites par le modèle Méso-NH, cette nouvelle méthode améliore en moyenne de 25 % les ZTD et de 4 mm les gradients.Note de contenu : Introduction
