[Termes IGN] Toscane (Italie)Résumé : (auteur) The extraction of forest information from SAR images is particularly complex in Mediterranean areas, since they are characterized by high spatial fragmentation and heterogeneity. We have investigated the use of multi-frequency SAR data from different sensors (ALOS/PALSAR and ENVISAT/ASAR) for estimating forest biomass in two test areas in Central Italy (San Rossore and Molise), where detailed in-situ measurements and Airborne Laser Scanning (ALS) data were available. The study focused on the estimation of growing stock volume (GS, in m3/ha) by using an inversion algorithm based on artificial neural networks (ANN). The ANN algorithm was first appropriately trained using the available GS estimates obtained from ALS data. The potential of this algorithm was then improved through the innovative use of a simulated dataset, generated by a forward electromagnetic model based on the Radiative Transfer Theory (RTT). The algorithm is able to merge SAR data at L and C bands for predicting GS in diversified Mediterranean environments. The performed analyses indicated that GS was correctly estimated by integrating information from L and C bands on both test areas, with the following statistics: R > 0.97 and RMSE = 28.5 m3/ha for the independent test, and R = 0.86 and RMSE ≈ 77 m3/ha for the final independent validation, the latter performed on the forest stands of both areas not included in the ALS acquisitions and where conventional measurements were available. The research then illustrates the potential of using the obtained GS estimates from SAR data to drive the simulations of forest net primary production (NPP). This experiment produced spatially explicit estimates of GS current annual increments that are slightly less accurate than those obtained from ground observations (R = 0.75 and RMSE ≈ 1.5 m3/ha/year). [Termes IGN] villeRésumé : (Auteur) En raison des besoins croissants d’énergie renouvelable dans les secteurs urbains, le recensement d’endroits convenables pour installer des systèmes solaires est de plus en plus important. Les cadastres énergétiques ont souvent un niveau de détail limité dans la géométrie analysée qui doit être rapidement mise à jour à la suite de tout changement apporté aux édifices. Les données tridimensionnelles requises peuvent être générées par les techniques de photogrammétrie et le logiciel Structure-from-Motion (SfM). Dans le présent article, la méthode a été vérifiée en utilisant les images d’une caméra de cartographie numérique (images virtuelles) lors d’une étude de cas dans le nord-ouest de l’Italie. Les résultats sont analysés pour évaluer la fiabilité du modèle numérique de surface (MNS) produit par les méthodes SfM et devant être utilisé dans les analyses du rayonnement solaire. Le problème dans ce genre de modélisation tridimensionnelle automatique peut être la très grande quantité de détails parfois requis dans la reconstruction de la géométrie des toits et le bruit possible. Les résultats sont gérés et analysés au moyen d’outils SIG (système d’information géographique). Pour l’ensemble du flux de production, on utilise des logiciels propriétaires et des logiciels libres et ouverts (LLO). Les problèmes et les limites font l’objet d’une étude afin d’évaluer et de confirmer la fiabilité et le rapport coût-efficacité des méthodes décrites. [Vedettes matières IGN] Inventaire forestierRésumé : (Auteur) Key message : The dataset provides an exhaustive tree inventory with forest mensuration and spatial location carried out in 54 plots sampled in 45- to 55-year-old black pine plantations, located in two areas of Tuscany (central Italy). Forest mensuration includes horizontal and vertical structure measurements and a total of 4171 trees were geo-referenced. The most abundant species was the black pine, Pinus nigra spp. laricio, for which a total of 3631 trees were observed. Context : The main aim of the SelPiBio LIFE project (www.selpibio.eu) is to demonstrate the effects of two thinning regimes, selective and from below, on soil biodiversity in young black pine stands. The spatial structure of forests and the relationships between trees are a good proxy of overall biodiversity level. Spatial datasets with geo referenced trees and related mensurational data represent the highest level of information for forest inventories and research activities.
Aims : This dataset has been developed during the A2 Action (Assessment of structural and mensurational parameters of the forest stands and the dead wood) of the project, to record the main mensurational parameters of the studied black pine stands. A tree-level database was compiled to describe the vertical and horizontal structure of 54 monitoring plots before the application of the silvicultural treatment.
Methods : In addition to classical in-field measurements (e.g. diameters at breast height, total height of the tree, crown depth etc.), all trees were georeferenced by means of polar coordinates collected from the centre of each monitoring plot, including crown projection on the ground, described with eight points. Then, a polynomial spline function was fitted across the recorded data to obtain a convex polygon and to calculate crown area and crown perimeter of each measured tree in GIS environment.
Results : A polygonal ESRI shapefile in ETRS89/UTM32N reference system (EPSG: 25832) with 4171 records representing the crown projections on the ground of each measured tree with all the mensurational parameters included into the attribute table. The database is freely available under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4. 182 0 License.

[Termes IGN] transport routierRésumé : (Auteur) Lately, the amount of mobility data recorded by GPS-enabled (and other) devices has increased drastically, entailing the necessity of efficient processing and analysis methods. In many cases, not only the geographic position, but also additional time-dependent information are traced and/or generated, according to the purpose of the evaluation. For example, in the field of animal behavior research, besides the position of the monitored animal, biologists are interested in further data like the altitude or the temperature at every measuring point. Other application domains comprise the names of streets, places of interest, or transportation modes that can be recorded along with the geographic position of a person. In this paper, we present in detail a framework for analyzing datasets with arbitrarily many time-dependent attributes. This can be considered as a major extension of our previous work, a comprehensive framework for pattern matching on symbolic trajectories with index support. For an efficient processing of different data types, a variable number of indexes of four different types that correspond to the data types of the attributes are applied. We demonstrate the expressiveness and efficiency of our approach by querying a real dataset representing taxi trips in Rome and, particularly, with a broad series of experiments using trajectories generated by BerlinMOD combined with geological raster data. The authors later developed a client side Web mapping application. All Free and Open Source Software tools were used to build both a spatial database (postgreSQL and PostGIS) and a Web mapping application (QGIS and Leaflet). The Web mapping application allows the user to find the territorial distribution of Celtic, Roman (Republican and Imperial), Byzantine, and Longobard coins. Each coin was georeferenced and linked to the denomination of the ancient coin, the authority that issued it, the coin mint, and the finding site.
