[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) This paper illustrates some results of the "National Research Project -PRIN, 2005", devoted to study both features of a prehistorical mining landscape and underground mines - not evident, or partially evident, on surface.
The geographical context of the project is the Promontory of Gargano (South-Eastern Italy), where the extraordinary availability of flint is associated with evidence of numerous extraction complexes (underground mines) (Galiberti 2005). According to the available data, the mining activities cover a time-span of almost three thousand years; among them, the most important is practiced in the Defensola hill, a mine- the most ancient in Europe- active from roughly 5.800 b.C (Tarantini, 2006).
Differently from other European prehistoric min-ing complexes, in the Gargano area, mines were generally opened onto slopes with a convex mor-phology and had often produced extremely large conoidal heaps outside.
Digital aerial photogrammetry was used in order to natural and archaeological features of recognize the prehistorical landscape near thr mines. Starting from present and historical geo-morphological evi--dences, thanks to the stereo interpretation of aerial photos that have shown earthworks and soilmarks, it was possible to recognize geological features interpreted as evidence of palaeodrainages and of ancient coastline. The integration between histori-cal references and geological researches through a GIS allowed to join different dataset, in order to highlight the spatial and temporal variations, and to produce thematic cartography.

[Termes IGN] station GPSRésumé : (Auteur) We present the general aspects, the main features and the final results of the Rete Dinamica Nazionale (RDN), the new geodetic reference frame system for Italy adopted from January 1th 2009. RDN which means National Dynamic Network is aligned to the most recent official realization of ETRS89, ETRF2000 at the epoch 2008.0. It will update the previous Italian realisation of ETRS89, materialized with the IGM95 frame. RDN consists of a network of 99 GPS permanent stations aligned to 13 IGS fiducial stations included in the ITRF2005 solution. The other stations were selected taking into account the homogeneous spatial distribution and the quality of location and equipment. The observation campaign lasts 28 days, from 23th December 2007 to 19th January 2008 and the data are daily files in RINEX format with 30 seconds sample rate. The computation was performed by the Data Processing Centre of the Geodetic Service of Istituto Geografico Militare Italiano (IGMI) and the processing strategy followed the standard procedures adopted by EUREF guidelines. The same computation also was performed independently by University of Padova (prof. Caporali) and by the G3 group in Milano (prof. Sanso) in order to test the results. In this article, we show all the processing steps until the final results and then all the comparisons with other data centers. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents the initial results of a common methodology for the evaluation of damage produced by a flood. A model has been developed for flood damage estimation based on a geographic information system (GIS). It could be used by land administration bodies and insurance companies to manage flood-related damage data. The model simulates flood scenarios and evaluates expected economic losses from the impact of floodwaters on exposed elements, through the application of a computational model elaborated by GIS. During the development of the model, the Boesio Stream, a small watercourse flowing into Lake Maggiore (Lombardy, northern Italy) which was recently affected by a flash flood, was used as case study to test and calibrate the methodology. The method could be used either as a forecasting tool to define event scenarios, utilizing data from events simulated with a hydraulic model, or for real-time damage assessment after a disaster. The approach is suitable to large-area damage assessment and could be appropriate for land use planning, civil protection and risk mitigation. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (Auteur) A rock fall occurs when a fragment of rock is detached from a cliff and travels down-slope at high speed. Rock falls are a constant hazard in mountainous regions and pose a significant threat to the population. In this paper, a comparison of software designed to model rock falls is presented. The computer codes selected for the experiment are STONE and RocFall®. STONE is a research code for the 3-dimensional simulation of rock falls. RocFall® is commercial software widely used for the 2-dimensional simulation of rock falls along user defined topographic profiles. The two computer programs require similar input and provide comparable outputs, allowing for a quantitative evaluation of their modelling results. To compare the software, the Monte Salta rock fall, in northern Italy, was selected. Specific tests were designed to compare the ability of the software to predict the maximum travel distance of the falling boulders, and the distance from the ground of the computed rock fall trajectories. Results indicate that the two rock fall modelling codes provide similar—but not identical—results. In general, STONE computes higher and longer rock fall trajectories than RocFall®, and allows identifying a larger area as potentially affected by falling boulders.
