The present research focuses on daily, seasonal and spatial ionosphere variations, based on TEC series calculated from the GNSS ie. GPS measurements. This analysis provides for characterization of ionosphere nature and fine structure over Serbia, both locally and regionally. For the days with high solar activity changes of TEC values ranges from minimum 4 Total Electron Content Units (TECU), in night hours, up to 55 TECU around the noon. It is shown that that changes are equivalent to the delay of GPS signals approximately 8.8 m in vertical direction during the (maximum) daily conditions and the delay of 0.6 m during the (minimum) night conditions. Also, it is shows that a seasonal TEC differences follows directly Sun activity during the seasons, and maximal differences of TEC values between the seasons reaching values of 45 TECU, again in the years of high Sun’s activities. For spatial changes all gained results indicate that there exist changes in all directions which cannot be recognized as constant bias or a trend. Watering of the tree has limited influence in time on the RCS, i.e., limited to around 30 min, but impacts the coherence over a longer period of time. Analysis of the series shows that according to the season considered, clear daily cycles from 1 to 2 dB may appear on the coherence only (autumn) or on both coherence and RCS (spring), whereas in winter, they are absent on both results. It was analyzed in the literature that the variations in RCS are strongly correlated to the variations in the dielectric constant in trunks and branches. In addition, it was shown that the HV RCS presents seasonal trends with a yearly cycle of roughly 3 dB following similar trends reported for trunk moisture content time series. [Termes IGN] propagation troposphériqueRésumé : (auteur) Global navigation satellite systems (GNSSs) have revolutionised positioning, navigation, and timing, becoming a common part of our everyday life. Aside from these well-known civilian and commercial applications, GNSS is now an established atmospheric observing system, which can accurately sense water vapour, the most abundant greenhouse gas, accounting for 60–70% of atmospheric warming. In Europe, the application of GNSS in meteorology started roughly two decades ago, and today it is a well-established field in both research and operation. This review covers the state of the art in GNSS meteorology in Europe. The advances in GNSS processing for derivation of tropospheric products, application of GNSS tropospheric products in operational weather prediction and application of GNSS tropospheric products for climate monitoring are discussed. The GNSS processing techniques and tropospheric products are reviewed. A summary of the use of the products for validation and impact studies with operational numerical weather prediction (NWP) models as well as very short weather prediction (nowcasting) case studies is given. Climate research with GNSSs is an emerging field of research, but the studies so far have been limited to comparison with climate models and derivation of trends. More than 15 years of GNSS meteorology in Europe has already achieved outstanding cooperation between the atmospheric and geodetic communities. It is now feasible to develop next-generation GNSS tropospheric products and applications that can enhance the quality of weather forecasts and climate monitoring. This work is carried out within COST Action ES1206 advanced global navigation satellite systems tropospheric products for monitoring severe weather events and climate (GNSS4SWEC, http://gnss4swec.knmi.nl). [Termes IGN] vagueRésumé : (Auteur) We propose a method based on combining wave tracing and linear wave theory for the estimation of wave period and bathymetry in coastal areas from satellite images. The method depends on several parameters for which we provide ranges of variations adapted to the instrument. Experimental results are conducted on several sites located around the Hawaiian island of Oahu, using 13 Landsat-8 images. Results show that wave period estimations are compatible with the wave buoy measurements in all cases. In addition, bathymetry estimation results show a standard deviation of less than 15% of the observed depth out of the surf zone until 20 m for sites with a direct exposure to the swell and with an absence of clouds. The proposed method, which does not rely on ancillary data, represents a promising tool for bathymetry estimation using satellite images in which waves are present. [Termes IGN] RussieRésumé : (Auteur) Tropospheric delay has a major effect on the accuracy of navigation and positioning when using the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). Zenith tropospheric delay (ZTD) modelling has been used to weaken the influence of the atmosphere. The work reported here focused on ZTD modelling based on real-time surface meteorological parameters, traditionally represented by the Saastamoinen model. However, Saastamoinen accuracy only reaches scale of centimetres, even to scale of centimetres when the water vapour is active, whereas the scale of ground-based GNSS-ZTD data (i.e. ZTD derived from ground GNSS data) is on the millimetre scale and is considered to be the ‘true’ value. An important direction in GNSS studies is how to make good use of ground-based GNSS-ZTD data to improve the accuracy of the Saastamoinen model. Authors studied the residuals in the Saastamoinen model using high-precision GNSS-ZTD data provided by the International GNSS Service (IGS) product and then carried out modelling based on a back propagation neural network. A new ZTD model (ISAAS) based on real-time surface meteorological parameters is proposed based on this method. The ISAAS model has good accuracy: its BIAS and root mean square error (RMSE) at the test area in Russia were -4.4 and 20.4 mm, respectively, which are lower than the results obtained using the Saastamoinen model (-10.4 and 23.3 mm, respectively). The ISAAS model can improve the ZTD prediction accuracy by more than 12.4% and therefore has important implications for precision engineering measurements in Russia.
