[Termes IGN] vitesseRésumé : (auteur) This paper describes a non-contact methodology for computing river discharge based on data collected from small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS). The approach is complete in that both surface velocity and channel geometry are measured directly under field conditions. The technique does not require introducing artificial tracer particles for computing surface velocity, nor does it rely upon the presence of naturally occurring floating material. Moreover, no prior knowledge of river bathymetry is necessary. Due to the weight of the sensors and limited payload capacities of the commercially available sUAS used in the study, two sUAS were required. The first sUAS included mid-wave thermal infrared and visible cameras. For the field evaluation described herein, a thermal image time series was acquired and a particle image velocimetry (PIV) algorithm used to track the motion of structures expressed at the water surface as small differences in temperature. The ability to detect these thermal features was significant because the water surface lacked floating material (e.g., foam, debris) that could have been detected with a visible camera and used to perform conventional Large-Scale Particle Image Velocimetry (LSPIV). The second sUAS was devoted to measuring bathymetry with a novel scanning polarizing lidar. We collected field measurements along two channel transects to assess the accuracy of the remotely sensed velocities, depths, and discharges. Thermal PIV provided velocities that agreed closely ( R2 = 0.82 and 0.64) with in situ velocity measurements from an acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP). Depths inferred from the lidar closely matched those surveyed by wading in the shallower of the two cross sections ( R2 = 0.95), but the agreement was not as strong for the transect with greater depths ( R2 = 0.61). Incremental discharges computed with the remotely sensed velocities and depths were greater than corresponding ADCP measurements by 22% at the first cross section and Numéro de notice : A2019-554 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.3390/rs11192317 Date de publication en ligne : 05/10/2019 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.3390/rs11192317 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=94207

[Termes IGN] vitesseRésumé : (Auteur) This study describes the results of an assessment of the accuracy of relative measures between two points, and more specifically of speed values, obtained from Global Positioning Satellite Systems (GNSS) tracks acquired by contributors of Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI). The VGI does not usually include information about the positional accuracy of the trackpoints neither of speed values derived from these positions. Consequently, the assessment is based on a field test that consisted of a vehicle which travelled a highway with a set of Global Positioning System (GPS) devices like those commonly used by VGI contributors. These devices captured positions of trackpoints with a time interval of 1 second. Additionally, a more accurate geodetic RTK–GNSS receptor controlled these positions. The paper describes the methodology employed, taking into account several parameters such as the acquisition time interval, the accuracy of control positions, etc. The results have demonstrated the viability of the methodology applied, the possible use of VGI in order to determine the speed values of the trackpoints and the possible improvement in the accuracy achieved with the increase of the distance between trackpoints (and as a consequence of time interval), but with the disadvantage of a reduction in the quantity of trackpoints. Thus, several values of time intervals have been suggested, considering the accuracy required. [Termes IGN] vitesseRésumé : (Auteur) This paper evaluates the capability of Sentinel-1 VH-polarized synthetic aperture radar signals, involving 738 scenes in the interferometric wide swath (IW) mode, for ocean surface wind speed retrieval using a novel subswath-based C-band cross-polarized ocean model. When compared with in situ measurements, it is observed that wind speed retrieval accuracy varies progressively along swath, with the most accurate wind speed retrievals being derived from subswath 3 [root-mean-square error (RMSE) of 1.82 m · s -1 ], followed by subswath 2 (RMSE of 1.92 m · s -1 ), while subswath 1 showed the lowest retrieval accuracy (RMSE of 2.37 m · s -1 ). The average RMSE of wind speeds retrieved from all the three subswaths is 2.08 m · s -1 under low-to-high wind speed regimes (wind speeds Numéro de notice : A2019-130 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1109/TGRS.2018.2867438 Date de publication en ligne : 20/09/2018 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1109/TGRS.2018.2867438 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=92459

[Termes IGN] vitesseRésumé : (Auteur) To support precise orbit determination of the altimetry missions, the International DORIS Service (IDS) regularly estimates the DPOD (DORIS terrestrial reference frame for Precise Orbit Determination) solution which includes mean positions and velocities of all the DORIS stations. This solution is aligned to the current realization of the International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF) and so, can be seen as a DORIS extension of the ITRF. In 2016, moving to the IDS Combination Center, the DPOD construction scheme changed. The new DPOD solution is produced from a DORIS cumulative position and velocity solution. We present the new methodology used to compute DPOD2014 and its validation procedure. In order to present geophysical applications and interpretations of these results, we show two examples: (1) the Gorkha earthquake (M7.8 – April 2015) generates a 3-D mis-positioning of nearly 55 mm of the EVEB DORIS station at the Everest base camp 90 km from the epicenter. (2) Applying the results the DPOD2014 realization, we show that the most recent vertical velocity of Thule, Greenland is similar to that observed between 2006 and 2010, indicating further ongoing ice mass loss in the Thule region of northwest Greenland.
