[Termes IGN] véhiculeRésumé : (auteur) This paper presents a novel approach to automatically detect and count cars in different aerial images, which can be satellite or unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) images. Variations in satellite and/or UAV data make it particularly challenging to have a robust method that works properly on a variety of images. A solution based on the bag-of-words (BoW) model is explored in this paper due to its invariance characteristic and highly stable performance in object/scene categorization. Different from categorization tasks, vehicle detection needs to localize the positions of cars in images. To make BoW suitable for this purpose, we extensively improve the methodology in three aspects, namely, by introducing a recently proposed feature representation, i.e., the local steering kernel descriptor, adding spatial structure constraints, and developing an orientation aware scanning mechanism to produce detection with “one-window-one-car” results. Experiments are conducted on various aerial images with large variations, which consist of data from two public databases, e.g., the Overhead Imagery Research Data Set and Vehicle Detection in Aerial Imagery, as well as other satellite and UAV images. The results demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method. Compared with existing techniques, the proposed method is applicable to a wider range of aerial images. Note de contenu : 1- Présentation

[Termes IGN] variogrammeRésumé : (Auteur) Superresolution mapping (SRM) is a widely used technique to address the mixed pixel problem in pixel-based classification. Advanced object-based classification will face a similar mixed phenomenon-a mixed object that contains different land-cover classes. Currently, most SRM approaches focus on estimating the spatial location of classes within mixed pixels in pixel-based classification. Little if any consideration has been given to predicting where classes spatially distribute within mixed objects. This paper, therefore, proposes a new object-based SRM strategy (OSRM) to deal with mixed objects in object-based classification. First, it uses the deconvolution technique to estimate the semivariograms at target subpixel scale from the class proportions of irregular objects. Then, an area-to-point kriging method is applied to predict the soft class values of subpixels within each object according to the estimated semivariograms and the class proportions of objects. Finally, a linear optimization model at object level is built to determine the optimal class labels of subpixels within each object. Two synthetic images and a real remote sensing image were used to evaluate the performance of OSRM. The experimental results demonstrated that OSRM generated more land-cover details within mixed objects than did the traditional object-based hard classification and performed better than an existing pixel-based SRM method. Hence, OSRM provides a valuable solution to mixed objects in object-based classification. [Termes IGN] réseau neuronal convolutifRésumé : (Auteur) As the acquisition of very high resolution (VHR) satellite images becomes easier owing to technological advancements, ever more stringent requirements are being imposed on automatic image interpretation. Moreover, per-pixel classification has become the focus of research interests in this regard. However, the efficient and effective processing and the interpretation of VHR satellite images remain a critical task. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have recently been applied to VHR satellite images with considerable success. However, the prevalent CNN models accept input data of fixed sizes and train the classifier using features extracted directly from the convolutional stages or the fully connected layers, which cannot yield pixel-to-pixel classifications. Moreover, training a CNN model requires large amounts of labeled reference data. These are challenging to obtain because per-pixel labeled VHR satellite images are not open access. In this paper, we propose a framework called the unsupervised-restricted deconvolutional neural network (URDNN). It can solve these problems by learning an end-to-end and pixel-to-pixel classification and handling a VHR classification using a fully convolutional network and a small number of labeled pixels. In URDNN, supervised learning is always under the restriction of unsupervised learning, which serves to constrain and aid supervised training in learning more generalized and abstract feature. To some degree, it will try to reduce the problems of overfitting and undertraining, which arise from the scarcity of labeled training data, and to gain better classification results using fewer training samples. It improves the generality of the classification model. We tested the proposed URDNN on images from the Geoeye and Quickbird sensors and obtained satisfactory results with the highest overall accuracy (OA) achieved as 0.977 and 0.989, respectively. Experiments showed that the combined effects of additional kernels and stages may have produced better results, and two-stage URDNN consistently produced a more stable result. We compared URDNN with four methods and found that with a small ratio of selected labeled data items, it yielded the highest and most stable results, whereas the accuracy values of the other methods quickly decreased. For some categories with fewer training pixels, accuracy for categories from other methods was considerably worse than that in URDNN, with the largest difference reaching almost 10%. Hence, the proposed URDNN can successfully handle the VHR image classification using a small number of labeled pixels. Furthermore, it is more effective than state-of-the-art methods. [Termes IGN] déconvolutionRésumé : (Auteur) In seismic exploration, the wavelet-filtering effect and Q-filtering (amplitude attenuation and velocity dispersion) effect blur the reflection image of subsurface layers. Therefore, both wavelet- and Q-filtering effects should be reduced to retrieve a high-quality subsurface image, which is significant for fine reservoir interpretation. We derive a nonlinear time-variant convolution model to sparsely represent nonstationary seismograms in time domain involving these two effects and present a time-variant deconvolution (TVD) method based on sparse Bayesian learning (SBL) to solve the model to obtain a high-quality reflectivity image. The SBL-based TVD essentially obtains an optimum posterior mean of the reflectivity image, which is regarded as the inverted reflectivity result, by iteratively solving a Bayesian maximum posterior and a type-II maximum likelihood. Because a hierarchical Gaussian prior for reflectivity controlled by model-dependent hyper-parameters is adopted to approximately represent the fact that reflectivity is sparse, SBL-based TVD can retrieve a sparse reflectivity image through the principled sequential addition and deletion of Q-dependent time-variant wavelets. In general, strong reflectors are acquired relatively earlier, whereas weak reflectors and deep reflectors are imaged later. The method has the capacity to avoid false artifacts represented by sequential positive or negative reflectivity spikes with short two-way travel time, which typically occur within stationary deconvolution outcomes. Synthetic, laboratorial, and field data examples are used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method and illustrate its advantages over SBL-based stationary deconvolution and TVD using an l2-norm or an l1-norm regularization. The results show that SBL-based TVD is a potentially effective, stable, and high-quality imaging tool.
