Circular statistics has been preferred because of the vectorial nature of the spatial error. A study case has been presented and discussed in detail. From the terra-aster images of Extremadura area (Spain), the Ground Control Point (GCP), ICP, and ICL data were acquired using differential GPS through field survey, and the planimetric positional accuracy was analyzed by both the conventional method (using ICP) and the proposed method (using ICL). Comparing conventional and proposed methods, the results indicated that modulus statistics are similar (e.g., RMSE of Geometric Correction 1 were 17.5 for the conventional method and 17.2 m for proposed method). But as additional results, azimuthal component statistics was calculated (e.g., mean direction: 247.2° in Geometric Correction 1), and several tests were made which showed the error distribution are not uniform and normal. [Termes IGN] projection de Mercator obliqueRésumé : (Auteur) Precise geometric rectification of satellite imagery normally requires knowing the geodetic location of features identifiable in the image, called ground control points (GCPs). In many cases, however, it is difficult to compute a precise geometric rectification because too few GCPs are available due to the lack of ground data or the nature of the terrain (lakes or oceans, deserts, continuous forest, etc). When too few GCPs are available, Space Oblique Mercator (SOM) projection theory can be applied to provide continuous precise geometric rectification of image tiles or scenes. We use GCPs from adjacent, prior, or subsequent image tiles to create the projection geometry for the intermediate tiles. In this paper, we report on the development of a procedure to implement the use of ancillary GCPs in georectifying under-controlled imagery. To validate our method, a test example was computed using 1999 data obtained by a panchromatic camera on board the Indian Remote Sensing satellite IRS-1C with a spatial resolution of 5.8 m. The testing showed that the precision of geometric rectification in a tile without GCPs is within three pixels (about 17.4 m), and the speed of computation is faster than with traditional methods. [Termes IGN] seuillage d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents an automatic building detection technique using LIDAR data and multispectral imagery. Two masks are obtained from the LIDAR data: a ‘primary building mask’ and a ‘secondary building mask’. The primary building mask indicates the void areas where the laser does not reach below a certain height threshold. The secondary building mask indicates the filled areas, from where the laser reflects, above the same threshold. Line segments are extracted from around the void areas in the primary building mask. Line segments around trees are removed using the normalized difference vegetation index derived from the orthorectified multispectral images. The initial building positions are obtained based on the remaining line segments. The complete buildings are detected from their initial positions using the two masks and multispectral images in the YIQ colour system. It is experimentally shown that the proposed technique can successfully detect urban residential buildings, when assessed in terms of 15 indices including completeness, correctness and quality. [Termes IGN] réfraction de l'eauRésumé : (Auteur) Underwater photogrammetry provides an efficient nondestructive means for measurement in environments with limited accessibility. With the growing use of consumer cameras, its application is becoming easier, thus benefiting a wide variety of disciplines. However, utilizing cameras for underwater photogrammetry poses some nontrivial modeling problems due to refraction effect and the extension of the imaging system into a unit of both the camera and the protecting housing device. This paper studies the effect that the underwater environment has on the photogrammetric process, and proposes a model for describing the geometric distortions and for estimating the additional parameters involved. The proposed model accounts not only for the multimedia effect, but also for inaccuracies related to the setting of the camera and housing device. The paper shows that only a small number of additional parameters is needed to model both elements and to preserve the collinearity relation. The results show that no unique setup is needed for estimating the additional parameters and that the estimation is insensitive to noise or first approximations. Experiments show that high levels of accuracy can be achieved.
