[Termes IGN] traitement géométrique de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) A region-based level set segmentation was developed for the automatic detection of man-made objects from aerial and satellite images. The essence of the approach is to optimize the position and the geometric form of an evolving curve, by measuring information within the regions that compose a particular image partition based on their statistical description. The present region-based variational model is fully automated without the need to manually specify the position of the initial contour. Furthermore, it converges after a small number of iterations, allowing real-time applications. The developed algorithm was tested for the detection of roads, buildings and other man-made objects in a number of aerial and satellite images. The effectiveness of the algorithm is demonstrated by the experimental results and the performed qualitative and quantitative. [Termes IGN] reconstruction 3D du bâtiRésumé : (Auteur) The advent of Light Detection and Ranging (lidar) technique provides a promising resource for three-dimensional building detection. Due to the difficulty of removing vegetation, most building detection methods fuse lidar data with multispectral images for vegetation indices and relatively few approaches use only lidar data. However, the fusing process may cause errors introduced by resolution and time difference, shadow and high-rise building displacement problems, and the geo-referencing process. This research presents a morphological building detecting method to identify buildings by gradually removing non-building pixels. First, a ground-filtering algorithm separates ground pixels with buildings, trees, and other objects. Then, an analytical approach removes the remaining non-building pixels using size, shape, height, building element structure, and the height difference between the first and last returns. The experimental results show that this method provides a comparative performance with an overall accuracy of 95.46 percent as in a study site in Austin urban area. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) Very high resolution satellite images provide valuable information to researchers. Among these, urban-area boundaries and building locations play crucial roles. For a human expert, manually extracting this valuable information is tedious. One possible solution to extract this information is using automated techniques. Unfortunately, the solution is not straightforward if standard image processing and pattern recognition techniques are used. Therefore, to detect the urban area and buildings in satellite images, we propose the use of scale invariant feature transform (SIFT) and graph theoretical tools. SIFT keypoints are powerful in detecting objects under various imaging conditions. However, SIFT is not sufficient for detecting urban areas and buildings alone. Therefore, we formalize the problem in terms of graph theory. In forming the graph, we represent each keypoint as a vertex of the graph. The unary and binary relationships between these vertices (such as spatial distance and intensity values) lead to the edges of the graph. Based on this formalism, we extract the urban area using a novel multiple subgraph matching method. Then, we extract separate buildings in the urban area using a novel graph cut method. We form a diverse and representative test set using panchromatic 1-m-resolution Ikonos imagery. By extensive testings, we report very promising results on automatically detecting urban areas and buildings. [Termes IGN] surface planeRésumé : (Auteur) Building reconstruction from lidar data offers promising prospects for rapid generation of large-scale 3D models autonomously. Such reconstruction requires knowledge on a variety of parameters that refer to both the point cloud and the modeled buildings. The complexity of the reconstruction task has led researchers to use external information to localize buildings and assume that they consist of only planar parts. These assumptions limit the reconstruction of complex buildings, particularly those having curved faces. We present in this paper a detection and reconstruction model that considers the point cloud as the only information source and supports the reconstruction of general shape surfaces. Nonetheless, since many of the buildings are composed of planar faces, we maintain the planar based partitioning whenever possible and model non-planar surfaces only where needed. This way, standard models are extended to support free-form roof shapes without imposing artificial models. In addition to the free-form surface extension, we demonstrate the effect of imposing geometric constraints on the reconstruction as a means to generate realistic building models.
