[Termes IGN] représentation multipleRésumé : (Auteur) More and more frequently, the populating of 3D MRDB’s (Multi Representations Data Base) is required to support advanced cartographic applications and advanced geospatial decision analysis. We previously proposed a manual photogrammetric process based on the Multi Representation Acquisition Pattern (MRAP) concept to tackle simultaneously Fine Level Geometries (FLG) extraction and Coarse Level Geometries (CLG) extraction. This paper presents our progress, from an automation standpoint, regarding our approach to populate MRDBs containing building geometries through a photogrammetric multiple representations acquisition process. Two new algorithms dedicated to Multi Representation (MR) acquisition are introduced and constitute two contributions. These combine passive imagery and Digital Surface Model analysis in order to address automation issues. The first algorithm allows for the automatic determination of the MRAP parameters from a single click initialization. The second algorithm aims at supporting part of the MR acquisition when MRAP are not relevant and allows the automatic building footprints extraction. This paper describes the project motivation and its actual progress. It is divided into four parts. The first part concerns the MR data acquisition specifications. A description of the manual prototype is provided and the MRAP concept is described. In the second part, the first algorithm allowing the automatic determination of the MRAP parameters is introduced. The third part is dedicated to the review of the automation performances through the study of three test sites. Finally, our second algorithm, allowing the automatic building footprints extraction is introduced with preliminary results. [Termes IGN] surveillance de l'urbanisationRésumé : (Auteur) Unplanned development and informal settlements are typical characteristics of megacities not only in developing countries but also in many developed countries, and they have considerable impact on the environment and on multiple human activities. Thus, development of an automated, robust, cost-effective, and quick procedure for informal building monitoring is of great value. This paper introduces a simple strategy based on a change detection algorithm intended for application in Greece. Several internally published methods for change detection are presented prior to presenting the proposed strategy. The results of two application tests in the greater area of Athens in the Attica region of Greece are presented and compared with the results of the commercial package, Feature Analyst™. The results of the proposed application are discussed and further research is proposed. [Termes IGN] processus ponctuel marquéRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, we present an automatic building extraction method from Digital Elevation Models based on an object approach. First, a rough approximation of the building footprints is realized by a method based on marked point processes: the building footprints are modelled by rectangle layouts. Then, these rectangular footprints are regularized by improving the connection between the neighbouring rectangles and detecting the roof height discontinuities. The obtained building footprints are structured footprints: each element represents a specific part of an urban structure. Results are finally applied to a 3D-city modelling process. [Termes IGN] modèle numérique de surfaceRésumé : (Auteur) Digital elevation models (DEMs) are at the core of most environmental process modelling and disaster management. In flood inundation modelling, surface elevation constitutes one of the most important model boundary conditions. With the availability of high-precision DEMs (e.g. LiDAR) and globally available DEMs (e.g. SRTM InSAR) a big step seems to have been taken in terms of hydraulic modelling application or hydraulic information retrieval from such DEMs, with high potential in particular for ungauged basins. Comparative studies exist that report on both the validation of different remotely sensed elevation sources and their use for both hydrologic and hydraulic studies. To contribute to the existing literature on DEMs and hydraulic information, this study aims at comparing water stages derived from LiDAR, topographic contours and SRTM. A flood inundation model calibrated with distributed ground-surveyed high water marks is used to evaluate the remotely sensed water stages. The results show that, as expected, LiDAR derived water stages exhibit the lowest RMSE (0.35 m), followed by the contour DEM (0.7 m). A relatively good performance of the SRTM (1.07 m), which is possibly linked to the low-lying floodplain, suggests that the SRTM is a valuable source for initial vital flood information extraction in large, homogeneous floodplains. Subsequent 3D flood mapping from remotely sensed water stages confirms this but also indicates that flood mapping with low-resolution, low-precision surface elevation data is hardly possible on the small scale, as the accuracy of the resulting map depends too much on DEM uncertainties and errors both in the horizontal and vertical directions. [Termes IGN] transformation de HoughRésumé : (Auteur) A Hough transform based approach for extraction of buildings using LiDAR data is presented. It is argued that LiDAR data should be smoothed and sparsed prior to Hough transform for better result. Algorithms to realize this are presented. Further, an algorithm which fits a vector model to extracted buildings is outlined. Simulated LiDAR data have been used to investigate the effect of three parameters (data density, flying height, and scan angle) on the quality of buildings extracted. A set of accuracy indices is proposed for this purpose. It is shown that the data density is the most significant parameter affecting the accuracy of building identification.
