[Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (auteur) This paper presents a skyline-based approach to enhance the visualization of a new construction project in augmented reality. We propose to process the video stream acquired with a mobile phone to register the real buildings with a 3D city model. We first combine the data acquired with the device’s instruments to estimate a rough user’s pose in the world coordinates system. Then, we use this estimated pose to generate a synthetic image of the user’s view from which we calculate a virtual skyline. In parallel, we extract a real skyline from the real-time video stream. Finally, we match these real and virtual skylines to correct the user’s pose (six degrees of freedom) and thus generate a more realistic augmented reality view. We evaluate the precision and the processing time of our approach using 2D and 3D registration algorithms, as well as with a novel double 2D strategy. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) The development of new tools based on remote sensing data in agriculture contributes to cost reduction, increased production, and greater profitability. Airborne LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) data show a significant potential for geometrically characterizing tree plantations. This study aims to develop a methodology to extract walnut (Juglans regia L.) crowns under leafless conditions using airborne LiDAR data. An original approach based on the alpha-shape algorithm, identification of local maxima, and k-means algorithms is developed to extract the crowns of walnut trees in a plot located in Viver (Eastern Spain) with 192 trees. In addition, stem diameter and volume, crown diameter, total height, and crown height were estimated from cloud metrics and other 2D parameters such as crown area, and diameter derived from LiDAR data. A correct identification was made of 178 trees (92.7%). For structure parameters, the most accurate results were obtained for crown diameter, stem diameter, and stem volume with coefficient of determination values (R2) equal to 0.95, 0.87 and 0.83; and RMSE values of 0.43 m (5.70%), 0.02 m (9.35%) and 0.016 m3 (21.55%), respectively. The models that gave the lowest R2 values were 0.69 for total height and 0.70 for crown height, with RMSE values of 0.84 m (12.4%) and 0.83 m (14.5%), respectively. A suitable definition of the central and lower parts of tree canopies was observed. Results of this study generate valuable information, which can be applied for improving the management of walnut plantations. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Worldwide urbanization has brought about diverse types of urban land use and land cover (LULC) changes. The diversity of urban land changes, however, have been greatly under studied, since the major focus of past research has been on urban growth. In this study, we proposed a framework to characterize diverse urban land changes of 30 global megacities using monthly nighttime light time series from VIIRS data. First, we developed a Logistic-Harmonic model to fit VIIRS time series. Second, by leveraging the uniqueness of urban land change and nighttime light data, we incorporated temporal information of VIIRS time series and proposed a new classification scheme to produce monthly maps of built-up areas and to disentangle urban land changes into five categories. Third, we provided an in-depth analysis and comparison of urban land change patterns of the selected megacities. Results demonstrated that the Logistic-Harmonic model yielded a robust performance in fitting VIIRS time series. Temporal features based classification can not only significantly improve the mapping accuracy of built-up areas, especially for regions with heterogeneous built-up and non-built-up landscapes, but also promoted temporal consistency and classification efficiency. Urban land changes occurred in 51% of the built-up pixels of the megacities. Compared with urban growth, other types of urban land change, particularly land use intensification, contributed to an unexpectedly large proportion of the changes (83%). The findings of this study offer an insightful understanding on global urbanization processes in megacities, and evoke further investigation on the environmental and ecological implications of urban land changes. [Termes IGN] toitRésumé : (Auteur) This article suggests a new approach to automatic building footprint modeling using exclusively airborne LiDAR data. The first part of the suggested approach is the filtering of the building point cloud using the bias of the Z‐coordinate histogram. This operation aims to detect the points of roof class from the building point cloud. Hence, eight rules for histogram interpretation are suggested. The second part of the suggested approach is the roof modeling algorithm. It starts by detecting the roof planes and calculating their adjacency matrix. Hence, the roof plane boundaries are classified into four categories: (1) outer boundary; (2) inner plane boundaries; (3) roof detail boundaries; and (4) boundaries related to the missing planes. Finally, the junction relationships of roof plane boundaries are analyzed for detecting the roof vertices. With regard to the resulting accuracy quantification, the average values of the correctness and the completeness indices are employed in both approaches. In the filtering algorithm, their values are respectively equal to 97.5 and 98.6%, whereas they are equal to 94.0 and 94.0% in the modeling approach. These results reflect the high efficacy of the suggested approach.
