[Termes IGN] transformation de HoughRésumé : (Auteur) From the recent availability of images recorded by synthetic aperture radar (SAR) airborne systems, automatic results of digital elevation models (DEMs) on urban structures have been published lately. This paper deals with automatic extraction of three-dimensional (3-D) buildings from stereoscopic high-resolution images recorded by the SAR airborne RAMSES sensor from the French Aerospace Research Center (ONERA). On these images, roofs are not very textured whereas typical strong L-shaped echoes are visible. These returns generally result from dihedral corners between ground and structures. They provide a part of the building footprints and the ground altitude, but not the building heights. Thus, we present an adapted processing scheme in two steps. First is stereoscopic structure extraction from L-shaped echoes. Buildings are detected on each image using the Hough transform. Then they are recognized during a stereoscopic refinement stage based on a criterion optimization. Second, is height measurement. As most of previous extracted footprints indicate the ground altitude, building heights are found by monoscopic and stereoscopic measures. Between structures, ground altitudes are obtained by a dense matching process. Experiments are performed on images representing an industrial area. Results are compared with a ground truth. Advantages and limitations of the method are brought out. [Termes IGN] reconstruction 3DRésumé : (Auteur) Object reconstruction has attracted great attention from both computer vision and photogrammetry communities, and new technologies are being introduced into this research society. Lidar (Light Detection And Ranging) has become well recognized in the geomatics community since the late 1990s. Compared with traditional photogrammetry, lidar has advantages in measuring surface in terms of accuracy and density, automation, and fast delivery time. There is a large market in geo-data acquisition and object recognition for lidar technology (Baltsavias, 1999). In a general sense, lidar is a companion technology for traditional photogrammetry. The direct product that can be derived from lidar data is the DSM (Digital Surface Model), which depicts the topography of the earth's surface, including objects above the terrain. Further processing can be carried out to generate DEM (Digital Terrain Model) and object models like buildings, which is very useful information in telecommunication, city planning, flood control, and tourism. Morphology and classification are two commonly used methods in DEM generation and object reconstruction. However, these two methods are either sensitive to errors or of low accuracy. In this paper, a new method is proposed to extract ground points for DEM generation and to detect points belonging to buildings. A new method for boundary regularization is also proposed. The results show that buildings can be detected with high accuracy from lidar data. [Termes IGN] structure géologiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Practical and economie constraints prompt the need of obtaining structural geological information with reduced field effort. This paper prescrits a methodological strategy for deriving such information from remotely sensed (RS) images coupled with empirical tectonic models as a way of bridging from regional to local scales. The hypothesis that spatial organisation displayed by small-scale tectonic structures (and not only the large ones) could be correlated with the arrangement of natural linear features observed on RS imagery to allow inferences on the local geological structure was tested. Azimuth direction and subsidiarily length were found to be the most appropriate attributes for spatial characterisation and comparative analyses of line sets. Inferences made of tectonic structures and respective directional arrangements were based on a combination of qualitative (visual analysis of histograms) and statistical methods (non-parametric goodness-of-fit tests). The numerical evaluation of the results of tests expressed in terms of average degree of matching (91% to 95%) and errors (5% of omission errors and 31.2% of commission errors) showed a reasonable efficiency of the inferential approach in predicting the structural geological settings in lithological units as well as in mid-size areas (50 to 80 km 2 approximately). Potential applications of the inferential approach in terrain evaluation schemes, particularly for planning and engineering-related purposes, are envisaged.
