[Termes IGN] web des donnéesRésumé : (auteur) Geospatial data is an increasingly important information asset for decisionmaking, from simple every day decisions like where to park your car, to national and international policy on topics like infrastructure and environment. Because of the location aspect, geospatial data is often the linking pin between different datasets and therefore important for data integration. A lot of geospatial data is created, for example, as part of governmental processes and nowadays, also disseminated as open data, traditionally through "Spatial data infrastructures" (SDIs). There is a lot of potential for reusing this data in other domains than the domain and use case for which it was originally created. My main research question was: "How to reuse geospatial data, from different, heterogeneous sources, via the web across communities?". Several aspects of data dissemination must be addressed before open data is actually in a good position for getting reused. These aspects have been coined the "FAIR principles": findability, accessibility, interoperability, and reusability. Note de contenu : 1- Introduction, research questions and methodology

[Termes IGN] validité des donnéesRésumé : (auteur) As part of the Copernicus programme of the European Commission (EC), the European Space Agency (ESA) operates the Sentinel-2 mission that acquires high spatial resolution optical imagery. The consistency of the image time series is ensured by some specific performance requirements such as multi-temporal spatial registration and radiometric stability, routinely monitored by the Sentinel-2 Mission Performance Centre (S2MPC). The products also provide a rich set of metadata and auxiliary data to support high-level processing activities. This presentation provides a description of the main level-1 products calibration and validation activities, performed by the S2MPC including several Expert Support Laboratories (ESL). Measured performances and analysed results show the good quality of the mission products both in terms of radiometry and geometry. The current performances for Sentinel-2A and Sentinel-2B are compared to mission product quality requirements. [Termes IGN] traitement de données localiséesRésumé : (Auteur) Toponym matching, i.e. pairing strings that represent the same real-world location, is a fundamental problemfor several practical applications. The current state-of-the-art relies on string similarity metrics, either specifically developed for matching place names or integrated within methods that combine multiple metrics. However, these methods all rely on common sub-strings in order to establish similarity, and they do not effectively capture the character replacements involved in toponym changes due to transliterations or to changes in language and culture over time. In this article, we present a novel matching approach, leveraging a deep neural network to classify pairs of toponyms as either matching or nonmatching. The proposed network architecture uses recurrent nodes to build representations from the sequences of bytes that correspond to the strings that are to be matched. These representations are then combined and passed to feed-forward nodes, finally leading to a classification decision. We present the results of a wide-ranging evaluation on the performance of the proposed method, using a large dataset collected from the GeoNames gazetteer. These results show that the proposed method can significantly outperform individual similarity metrics from previous studies, as well as previous methods based on supervised machine learning for combining multiple metrics. [Termes IGN] qualité des donnéesRésumé : (auteur) As spatial technology has evolved and become integrated in to archaeology, we face a new set of challenges posed by the sheer size and complexity of data we use and produce. In this paper I discuss the prospects and problems of Geospatial Big Data (GBD) – broadly defined as data sets with locational information that exceed the capacity of widely available hardware, software, and/or human resources. While the datasets we create today remain within available resources, we nonetheless face the same challenges as many other fields that use and create GBD, especially in apprehensions over data quality and privacy. After reviewing the kinds of archaeological geospatial data currently available I discuss the near future of GBD in writing culture histories, making decisions, and visualizing the past. I use a case study from New Zealand to argue for the value of taking a data quantity-in-use approach to GBD and requiring applications of GBD in archaeology be regularly accompanied by a Standalone Quality Report.
