[Termes IGN] qualité des donnéesRésumé : (auteur) As spatial technology has evolved and become integrated in to archaeology, we face a new set of challenges posed by the sheer size and complexity of data we use and produce. In this paper I discuss the prospects and problems of Geospatial Big Data (GBD) – broadly defined as data sets with locational information that exceed the capacity of widely available hardware, software, and/or human resources. While the datasets we create today remain within available resources, we nonetheless face the same challenges as many other fields that use and create GBD, especially in apprehensions over data quality and privacy. After reviewing the kinds of archaeological geospatial data currently available I discuss the near future of GBD in writing culture histories, making decisions, and visualizing the past. I use a case study from New Zealand to argue for the value of taking a data quantity-in-use approach to GBD and requiring applications of GBD in archaeology be regularly accompanied by a Standalone Quality Report. [Termes IGN] structure-from-motionRésumé : (Auteur) We describe a fast and efficient camera pose refinement and Structure from Motion (SfM) method for sequential aerial imagery with applications to georegistration and 3-D reconstruction. Inputs to the system are 2-D images combined with initial noisy camera metadata measurements, available from on-board sensors (e.g., camera, global positioning system, and inertial measurement unit). Georegistration is required to stabilize the ground-plane motion to separate camera-induced motion from object motion to support vehicle tracking in aerial imagery. In the proposed approach, we recover accurate camera pose and (sparse) 3-D structure using bundle adjustment for sequential imagery (BA4S) and then stabilize the video from the moving platform by analytically solving for the image-plane-to-ground-plane homography transformation. Using this approach, we avoid relying upon image-to-image registration, which requires estimating feature correspondences (i.e., matching) followed by warping between images (in a 2-D space) that is an error prone process for complex scenes with parallax, appearance, and illumination changes. Both our SfM (BA4S) and our analytical ground-plane georegistration method avoid the use of iterative consensus combinatorial methods like RANdom SAmple Consensus which is a core part of many published approaches. BA4S is very efficient for long sequential imagery and is more than 130 times faster than VisualSfM, 35 times faster than MavMap, and about 274 times faster than Pix4D. Various experimental results demonstrate the efficiency and robustness of the proposed pipeline for the refinement of camera parameters in sequential aerial imagery and georegistration. [Termes IGN] web des donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) Gazetteers are instrumental in recognizing place names in documents such as Web pages, news, and social media messages. However, creating and maintaining gazetteers is still a complex task. Even though some online gazetteers provide rich sets of geographic names in planetary scale (e.g. GeoNames), other sources must be used to recognize references to urban locations, such as street names, neighborhood names or landmarks. We propose integrating Linked Data sources to create a gazetteer that combines a broad coverage of places with urban detail, including content on geographic and semantic relationships involving places, their multiple names and related non-geographic entities. Our final goal is to expand the possibilities for recognizing, disambiguating and filtering references to places in texts for geographic information retrieval (GIR) and related applications. The resulting ontological gazetteer, named LoG (Linked OntoGazetteer), is accessible through Web services by applications and research initiatives on GIR, text processing, named entity recognition and others. The gazetteer currently contains over 13 million places, 140 million attributes and relationships, and 4.5 million non-geographic entities. Data sources include GeoNames, Freebase, DBPedia and LinkedGeoData, which is based on OpenStreetMap data. An analysis on how these datasets overlap and complement one another is also presented. [Termes IGN] service web géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Geospatial data catalogs enable users to discover and access geographical information. Prevailing solutions are document oriented and fragment the spatial continuum of the geospatial data into independent and disconnected resources described through metadata. Due to this, the complete answer for a query may be scattered across multiple resources, making its discovery and access more difficult. This paper proposes an improved information retrieval process for geospatial data catalogs that aggregates the search results by identifying the implicit spatial/thematic relations between the metadata records of the resources. These aggregations are constructed in such a way that they match better the user query than each resource individually.
