[Termes IGN] routeRésumé : (Auteur) We present results of an analysis of deforestation at a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the Parque National Yasuni, located in the rainforests of eastern Ecuador using multitemporal Landsat TM and ETM+ satellite imagery. Using survival analysis, we assessed both current and future trends in deforestation rates, and investigated the impact of spatial, cultural, and economic factors on deforestation. These factors included the distance from roads, rivers research facilities, oil facilities, markets and towns, and land ownership by colonists, native inhabitants, and an oil company. We found the annual rate of deforestation is currently only 0.11%, but that this rate is increasing with time and, assuming that the trend of increasing rate of forest loss continues, we would predict that by 2063, 50% of the forest within 2 km of an oil access road will be lost to unhindered colonization and anthropogenic conversion. The Quechua colonists are associated with areas of the highest rate of deforestation, followed by the native Huaorani and the lowest region of deforestation was in areas occupied by a local oil company. By far, the strongest predictor of where deforestation is predicted to occur was proximity to the road. Proximity to research sites, oil facilities, market, and rivers significantly decreases deforestation rates, and proximity to towns significantly increases deforestation rates. [Termes IGN] précision géométrique (imagerie)Résumé : (Auteur) High-resolution ( 1m) satellite imagery and archival World War 2 era (WW2) aerial photographs are currently available to support high-resolution longterm change measurements at sites across China. A major limitation to these measurements is the spatial accuracy with which this imagery can be orthorectified and co-registered. We orthorectified IKONOS 1m resolution GEO-format imagery and WW2 aerial photographs across five 100km2 rural sites in China with terrain ranging from flat to hilly to mountainous. Ground control points (GCPs) were collected uniformly across 100 km2 IKONOS scenes using a differential Global Positioning Systems (GPS) field campaign. WW2 aerial photos were co-registered to orthorectified IKONOS imagery using bundle block adjustment and rational function models. GCP precision, terrain relief and the number and distribution of GCPs significantly influenced image orthorectification accuracy. Root mean square errors (RMSEs) at GCPs for IKONOS imagery were Numéro de notice : A2005-256 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1080/01431160512331326684 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1080/01431160512331326684 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=27392

[Termes IGN] texture d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) The accuracy of traditional multispectral maximum-likelihood image classification is limited by the multi-modal statistical distributions of digital numbers from the complex, heterogenous mixture of land cover types in urban areas. This work examines the utility of local variance, fractal dimension and Moran's I index of spatial autocorrelation in segmenting multispectral satellite imagery with the goal of improving urban land cover classification accuracy. Tools available in the ERDAS Imagine™ software package and the Image Characterization and Modeling System (ICAMS) were used to analyse Landsat ETM+ imagery of Atlanta, Georgia. Images were created from the ETM+ panchromatic band using the three texture indices. These texture images were added to the stack of multispectral bands and classified using a supervised, maximum likelihood technique. Although each texture band improved the classification accuracy over a multispectral only effort, the addition of fractal dimension measures is particularly effective at resolving land cover classes within urbanized areas, as compared to per-pixel spectral classification techniques. [Termes IGN] zone intertropicaleRésumé : (Auteur) Multi-temporal compositing of SPOT-4 VEGETATION imagery over tropical regions was tested to produce spatially coherent monthly composite images with reduced cloud contamination, for the year 2000. Monthly composite images generated from daily images (S1 product, 1-km) encompassing different land cover. types of the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil, were evaluated in terms of cloud contamination and spatial consistency. A new multi-temporal compositing algorithm was tested which uses different criteria for vegetated and non-vegetated or sparsely vegetated land cover types. Furthermore, a principal components transformation that rescales the noise in the image-Maximum Noise Fraction (MNF)- was applied to a multi-temporal dataset of monthly composite images and tested as a method of additional signal-to-noise ratio improvement. The back-transformed dataset using the first 12 MNF eigenimages yielded an accurate reconstruction of monthly composite images from the dry season (May to September) and enhanced spatial coherence from wet season images (October to April), as evaluated by the Moran's 1 index of spatial autocorrelation. This approach is useful for land cover- change studies in the tropics, where it is difficult to obtain cloud-free optical remote sensing imagery. In Mato Grosso, wet season composite images are important for monitoring agricultural crop cycles.
