[Termes IGN] visualisation multiéchelleRésumé : (auteur) As a key focus of cartography and terrain analysis, the simplification of a digital elevation model (DEM) is used to preserve the pattern features of the terrain surface while suppressing its details over multiple scales. Statistical filtering and structural analysis methods are commonly used for this process. The structural analysis method performs well in identifying terrain structural edges, while it tends to discard the smooth morphology of a terrain surface. In addition, the filter that aims to reduce noise on a surface may over-smooth the terrain structural edges. Therefore, to preserve both the terrain structural edges and smooth morphology, we propose to combine the techniques of statistical filtering and structural analysis. Specifically, all the critical elevation points and structural edges are first detected from the DEM surface by using the structural analysis method. Then, the iterative guided normal filter is used to smooth the generalized DEM with the guidance of the structure of the original surface. After this process, the terrain structure is retained in the smooth surface of the DEM. The experimental results with a real-world dataset show that our method can inherit the merits of both structural analysis and statistical filter in preserving terrain features for multi-scale DEM representations. It was ensured that the number of points in each TIN was approximately equal to the number calculated by Töpfer’s formula, and that the vertical error of each TIN was less than the error calculated by Koppe’s formula. According to the results, (1) both methods are quality prioritized, (2) IPE is more sensitive to local surface changes, (3) important triangle edges determined by IPE make a significant contribution to the TIN, (4) some of the points selected by IPE are more important points than that of VIP, and (5) IPE-based TINs are more structural fidelity than VIP-based TINs. [Termes IGN] point d'appuiRésumé : (Auteur) To improve the accuracy of sensor orientation using calibrated aerial images, this paper proposes an automatic sensor orientation method utilizing horizontal and vertical constraints on human-engineered structures, addressing the limitations faced with sub-optimal number of Ground Control Points (GCPs) within a scene. Related state-of-the-art methods rely on structured building edges, and necessitate manual identification of end points. Our method makes use of line-segments but eliminates the need for these matched end points, thus eliminating the need for inefficient manual intervention.
To achieve this, a 3D line in object space is represented by the intersection of two planes going through two camera centers. The normal vector of each plane can be written as a function of a pair of azimuth and elevations angles. The normal vector of the 3D line can be expressed by the cross product of these two plane’s normal vectors. Then, we create observation functions of horizontal and vertical line constraints based on the zero-vector cross-product and the dot-product of the normal vector of the 3D lines. The observation functions of the horizontal and vertical lines are then introduced into a hybrid Bundle Adjustment (BA) method as constraints, including observed image points as well as observed line segment projections. Finally, to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method, simulated and real data are tested. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) This paper presents an automated topographic feature lines detection method that directly extracts 3D vector topographic feature lines from terrain point cloud. First, signed surface variation (SSV) is introduced to extract the potential feature points. Secondly, the potential feature points are segmented to different clusters by combining region growing segmentation and conditional Euclidean clustering. In order to extract feature points, the potential feature points in each cluster are iteratively thinned using a HC-Laplacian smoothing method with SSV weighted taken into account. Besides, SSV-based and elevation-based simple rules are added for accelerating this thinning process. Finally, the feature lines are obtained by constructing the minimum spanning tree of the extracted feature points. By comparing with manually digitized reference lines, the correctness and the completeness of extracted results are about 80% or even higher, which are much higher than those extracted by D8 algorithm.
