[Termes IGN] visualisation de donnéesRésumé : (auteur) This research introduces and tests a new masking technique for sensitive point-based geospatial data. The goal of masking is to allow data to be used for general measurements of spatial distributions, but to not permit the matching of points with their true underlying observations, usually street addresses, in order to protect identity and privacy. The proposed method first converts coordinates to the Military Grid Reference System (MGRS), then uses digit switching to mask coordinates. This permits encryption at five spatial levels of precision, equivalent to 1, 10, 100, 1000, and 10,000 m. Of the 1.3M possible digit switching combinations, one is chosen that minimizes the difference between the aggregate descriptive spatial statistics for the point set as a whole between the masked and the unmasked data. Most heavily weighted in the selection is the nearest neighbor statistic, a measure of clustering in the distribution. The masking method was implemented for point sets within a single MGRS cell square using NGA’s GEOTRANS software and new custom C language code, with both forward and inverse algorithms. The forward masking saves the translation code in a separate file without which the inversion is practically impossible, meaning that the masked data can be offered publicly. Four test point distributions were used to show the method in action. The method appears to offer new possibilities for the protection of sensitive geospatial data. [Termes IGN] réseau neuronal artificielRésumé : (auteur) Spatial data infrastructures, which are characterized by multi-represented datasets, are prevalent throughout the world. The multi-represented datasets contain different representations for identical real-world entities. Therefore, update propagation is useful and required for maintaining multi-represented datasets. The key to update propagation is the detection of identical features in different datasets that represent corresponding real-world entities and the detection of changes in updated datasets. Using polygon features of settlements as examples, this article addresses these key problems and proposes an approach for multi-represented feature matching based on spatial similarity and a back-propagation neural network (BPNN). Although this approach only utilizes the measures of distance, area, direction and length, it dynamically and objectively determines the weight of each measure through intelligent learning; in contrast, traditional approaches determine weight using expertise. Therefore, the weight may be variable in different data contexts but not for different levels of expertise. This approach can be applied not only to one-to-one matching but also to one-to-many and many-to-many matching. Experiments are designed using two different approaches and four datasets that encompass an area in China. The goals are to demonstrate the weight differences in different data contexts and to measure the performance of the BPNN-based feature matching approach. [Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (auteur) It is commonly recognized that free-hand sketch maps are influenced by cognitive impacts and therefore sketch maps are in complete, distorted, and schematized. This makes it difficult to achieve a one-to-one alignment between a sketch map and its corresponding geo-referenced metric map. Nevertheless, sketch maps are still useful to communicate spatial knowledge, indicating that sketch maps contain certain spatial information that is robust to cognitive impacts. In existing studies, sketch maps are used frequently to measure cognitive maps. However, little work has been done on invariant spatial information in sketch maps, which is the information of spatial configurations representing correctly the real world. We aim to study such information from a cognitive perspective. This paper first presents basic spatial objects identified in sketch maps and then introduces sketch aspects that capture invariant spatial information. The accuracy and reliability of these aspects were evaluated by a human study. We collected sketch maps from participants, extracted and measured spatial relations of identified spatial objects, and in the end analyzed the accuracy and statistical significance of these relations. Based on the statistical survey, we propose in this paper a set of seven sketch aspects that constitute invariant spatial information, along with a spatial analysis method to measure them. The findings of these aspects help to understand which spatial information is preserved under the transformation from the physical world to human sketch maps.
