[Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a means for automatic generation of a level of detail (LOD) representation of three-dimensional (3D) building data, with the formally well-defined scale-spaces as the underlying theory. More specifically, we propose an approach that employs vector-based mathematical morphology and discrete curvature-space to generalize two-dimensional (2D) building outlines as well as 3D building surfaces. Scale-space events that are related to the semantics of objects are the major triggers of the generalization. The implemented approach preserves right angles. Additionally, more heuristic means to square buildings are presented. The test results have validated the approach. [Termes IGN] texture d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) In this study, a segmentation procedure is proposed, based on grey-level and multivariate texture to extract spatial objects from an image scene. Object uncertainty was quantified to identify transitions zones of objects with indeterminate boundaries. The Local Binary Pattern (LBP) operator, modelling texture, was integrated into a hierarchical splitting segmentation to identifiy homogeneous texture regions in an image. We proposed a multivariate extension of the standard univariate LBP operator to describe colour texture. The paper is illustrated with two case studies. The first considers an image with a composite of texture regions. The two LBP operators provided good segmentation results on both grey-scale and colour textures, depicted by accuracy values of 96% and 98% respectively. The second case study involved segmentation of coastal land cover objects from a multispectral Compact Airborne Spectral Imager (CASI) image, of a coastal area in the UK. Segmentation based on the univariate LBP measure provided unsatisfactory segmentation results from a single CASI band (70% accuracy). A multivariate LBP-based segmentation of three CASI bands improved segmentation results considerably (77% accuracy). Uncertainty values for object building blocks provided valuable information for identification of object transition zones. We conclude that the multivariate LBP texture model in combinaison with a hierarchical splitting segmentation framework is suitable for identifying objects and for quantifying their uncertainty. [Termes IGN] système de référence localRésumé : (Auteur) The enormous increase in the volume of datasets acquired by lidar systems is leading towards their extensive exploitation in a variety of applications, such as, surface reconstruction, city modeling, and generation of perspective views. Though being a fairly new technology, lidar has been influenced by and had a significant impact on photogrammetry. Such an influence or impact can be attributed to the complementary nature of the information provided by the two systems. For example, photogrammetric processing of imagery produces accurate information regarding object space break lines (discontinuities). On the other hand, lidar provides accurate information describing homogeneous physical surfaces. Hence, it proves logical to combine data from the two sensors to arrive at a more robust and complete reconstruction of 3D objects. This paper introduces alternative approaches for the registration of data captured by photogrammetric and lidar systems to a common reference frame. The first approach incorporates lidar features as control for establishing the datum in the photogrammetric bundle adjustment. The second approach starts by manipulating the photogrammetric imagery to produce a 3D model, including a set of linear features along object space discontinuities, relative to an arbitrarily chosen coordinate system. Afterwards, conjugate photogrammetric and lidar straightline features are used to establish the transformation between the arbitrarily chosen photogrammetric coordinate system and the lidar reference frame. The second approach (bundle adjustment, followed by similarity transformation) is general enough to be applied for the co-registration of multiple three-dimensional datasets regardless of their origin (e.g., adjacent lidar strips, surfaces in Gis databases, and temporal elevation data). The registration procedure would allow for the identification of inconsistencies between the surfaces in question. Such inconsistencies might arise from changes taking place within the object space or inaccurate calibration of the internal characteristics of the lidar and the photogrammetric systems. Therefore, the proposed methodology is useful for change detection and system calibration applications. Experimental results from aerial and terrestrial datasets proved the feasibility of the suggested methodologies. [Termes IGN] système multi-agentsRésumé : (Auteur) A novel approach to automata-based modeling for spatial systems is described: geographic automata and Geographic Automata Systems. We detail a framework that takes advantage of the formalism of automata theory and GI Science to unite cellular automata and multi-agent systems techniques, and provides a spatial approach to bottom-up modeling of complex geographic systems that are comprised of infrastructure and human objects. The suitability of the framework is also discussed with reference to existing cellular automata and multi-agent systems models used in urban studies. Practical implementation of the framework is illustrated with reference to an object-based urban simulation environment and implementation of a popular socio-spatial segregation model.
