[Termes IGN] texture d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) We propose the use of texture motifs, or characteristic spatially recurrent patterns, for modeling and detecting geospatial objects. A method is proposed for learning a texture-motif model from object examples and detecting objects based on the learned model. The model is learned in a two-layered framework: the first learns the constituent "texture elements" of the motif and, the second, the spatial distribution of the elements. In the experimental session, we demonstrate the model training and selection methodology for objects given a set of training examples. The utility of such models for detecting the presence or absence of geospatial objects in large aerial image datasets comprising tens of thousands of image tiles is then emphasized. [Termes IGN] tessellationRésumé : (Auteur) Quantization of spatial objects, which usually means vector-to-raster conversion in GIS and remote sensing, is a basic operation used for handling spatial data from data creation to visualization. Since quantization is an approximation of spatial objects, it inevitably yields errors in measuring their properties such as area, perimeter, diameter, and so forth. This paper discusses the accuracy of a quantized Voronoi diagram, a spatial tessellation generated from a set of points. A measure is proposed to evaluate the accuracy of the area of Voronoi regions calculated after quantization. In one-dimensional space the measure is expressed as an explicit function of the expected number of generators in a cell. In two-dimensional space, on the other hand, the measure is defined by an implicit function, whose approximation is derived in an explicit form. These functions permit us to evaluate the accuracy of quantization in relation to the size of lattice cells and the density of Voronoi generators. This leads to an appropriate choice of a lattice to keep the quality of a quantized Voronoi diagram at a desirable level. [Termes IGN] topologieRésumé : (Auteur) Recent technological advances in geosensor networks demand new models of distributed computation with dynamic spatial information. This paper presents a computational model of spatial change in dynamic regions (such as may be derived from discretizations of continuous fields) founded on embeddings of graphs in orientable surfaces. Continuous change, connectedness and regularity of dynamic regions are defined and local transition rules are used to constrain region evolution and enable more efficient inference of a region's state. The model provides a framework for the detection of global high-level events based on local low-level ‘snapshot’ spatiotemporal data. The approach has particular relevance to environmental monitoring with geosensor networks, where technological constraints make the detection of global behaviour from local conditions highly advantageous. [Termes IGN] régionalisation (segmentation)Résumé : (Auteur) Regionalization is a classification procedure applied to spatial objects with an areal representation, which groups them into homogeneous contiguous regions. This paper presents an efficient method for regionalization. The first step creates a connectivity graph that captures the neighbourhood relationship between the spatial objects. The cost of each edge in the graph is inversely proportional to the similarity between the regions it joins. We summarize the neighbourhood structure by a minimum spanning tree (MST), which is a connected tree with no circuits. We partition the MST by successive removal of edges that link dissimilar regions. The result is the division of the spatial objects into connected regions that have maximum internal homogeneity. Since the MST partitioning problem is NP-hard, we propose a heuristic to speed up the tree partitioning significantly. Our results show that our proposed method combines performance and quality, and it is a good alternative to other regionalization methods found in the literature. Copyright Taylor & Francis.
