For the floodplains of large, developed rivers, flood hazard analysis often needs to account for the complex hydrology of multiple tributaries and the potential failure of dikes. Estimating this hazard using deterministic methods ignores two major aspects of large-scale risk analysis: the spatial–temporal variability of extreme events caused by tributaries, and the uncertainty of dike breach development. Innovative stochastic methods are here developed to account for these uncertainties and are applied to the Po River in Italy. The effects of using these stochastic methods are compared against deterministic equivalents, and the methods are combined to demonstrate applications for an overall stochastic hazard analysis. The results show these uncertainties can impact extreme event water levels by more than 2 m at certain channel locations, and also affect inundation and breaching patterns. The combined hazard analysis allows for probability distributions of flood hazard and dike failure to be developed, which can be used to assess future flood risk management measures. [Termes IGN] surveillance d'ouvrageRésumé : (auteur) Dam is an important part of engineering structure, in the process of dam construction, the dam monitoring is crucial since water erosion and time-dependent motion may cause deformation. Traditional monitoring methods are time-consuming and labour-intensive. However, Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) can provide precise and spatially dense information on slow deformations. This research investigated the longest earth-rock-fill dam in Sudan to determine the spatial and temporal deformations Sentinel-1A descending SAR images were further used to analyse the issues mentioned above. The results suggested that the dam existed the maximum displacement with a value up to 190 mm on the dam crest. Besides, the selected sections along the riverbed of the dam were analysed and the RMSE was approximately 2 mm/year. The results were in good agreement with the in situ measurements, indicating the advancement of time series InSAR in dam deformation monitoring. [Termes IGN] tachéomètre électroniqueRésumé : (auteur) This article examines advances in interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) satellite measurement technologies to understand their relevance, utilization, and limitations for bridge monitoring. Waterloo Bridge is presented as a case study to explore how InSAR data sets can be combined with traditional measurement techniques including sensors installed on the bridge and automated total stations. A novel approach to InSAR bridge monitoring was adopted by the installation of physical reflectors at key points of structural interest on the bridge, in order to supplement the bridge’s own reflection characteristics and ensure that the InSAR measurements could be directly compared and combined with in situ measurements. The interpretation and integration of InSAR data sets with civil infrastructure data are more than a trivial task, and a discussion of uncertainty of measurement data is presented. Finally, a strategy for combining and interpreting varied data from multiple sources to provide useful insights into each of these methods is presented, outlining the practical applications of this data analysis to support wider monitoring strategies. [Termes IGN] TurquieRésumé : (auteur) This paper investigates the behaviour of the double-curvature Deriner dam, which is in the operation phase and also one of the highest dams in the world. In order to determine the displacements, a geodetic network consisting of twelve reference and seven object points was measured in four periods by means of the Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) data. The θ2-Criteria method was used to determine the extent of the deformation. The deformation analysis results based on the GNSS measurements revealed significant horizontal and vertical displacements on the object points on the dam crest. Hence, the vertical displacements found based on the GNSS measurements can be considered erroneous, because they are greater than expected. This may be due to the narrow topography of the valley. Another conclusion drawn from the results is that there is a strong relationship between the change in the reservoir water level and horizontal deformations, as can be seen from the horizontal deformation vectors. In order to ensure the safe operation of bridges, it is of great significance to accurately predict displacement of monitoring points from bridge Structural Health System (SHM). In the paper, a CEEMDAN-KELM model is proposed to improve the accuracy of displacement prediction of bridge. Firstly, the original displacement monitoring time series of bridge is accurately and effectively decomposed into multiple components called intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) and one residual component using a method named complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise (CEEMDAN). Then, these components are forecasted by establishing appropriate kernel extreme learning machine (KELM) prediction models, respectively. At last, the prediction results of all components including residual component are summed as the final prediction results. A case study using global navigation satellite system (GNSS) monitoring data is used to illustrate the feasibility and validity of the proposed model. Practical results show that prediction accuracy using CEEMDAN-KELM model is superior to BP neural network model, EMD-ELM model and EMD-KELM model in terms of the same monitoring data.
