[Termes IGN] régressionRésumé : (auteur) There are two major problems in Rational Function Model (RFM) solution: (a) Data source error, including gross error, random error, and systematic error; and (b) Model error, including over-parameterization and over-correction issues caused by unnecessary RFM parameters and exaggeration of random error in constant term of error-in-variables (EIV) model, respectively. In order to solve two major problems simultaneously, we propose a new approach named stepwise-then-orthogonal regression (STOR) with quality control. First, RFM parameters are selected by stepwise regression with gross error detection. Second, the revised orthogonal distance regression is utilized to adjust random error and address the overcorrection problem. Third, systematic error is compensated by Fourier series. The performance of conventional strategies and the proposed STOR are evaluated by control and check grids generated from SPOT5 high-resolution imagery. Compared with the least squares regression, partial least squares regression, ridge regression, and stepwise regression, the proposed STOR shows a significant improvement in accuracy. [Termes IGN] topographeRésumé : (Auteur) Volunteered geographic information (VGI) has enabled many innovative applications in various scientific fields. This paper introduces a new framework called “collaborative cloud-based land surveying” (CCLS) that uses VGI principles for data sharing among surveyor engineers to boost the productivity and improve the quality of their applications. A cloud-based spatio-temporal data repository is presented, aiming to facilitate the sharing of VGI among surveyor engineers. A fully-functional distributed software application has been developed and used to apply CCLS in a large-scale land surveying project run by the Greek Ministry of Culture, which involves the mapping of the historic center of Athens. Results from the data analysis of hundreds of measurements indicate a substantial (30% to 60%) error reduction and also a significant productivity raise (22%). The collected measurements are shared in an online database, accessible by professional surveyors who can in turn contribute their own data to further enhance the CCLS system. [Termes IGN] véhicule aérienRésumé : (auteur) Specific professional bids to perform aerial data collection using large manned aerial vehicles (LMAV), small manned aerial vehicles (SMAV), and small unmanned aerial systems (UAS) were used to generate general bid models. From these bid models, it was determined what collection methods were competitive for particular jobs based on the project area, distance from the airport or office, and the modeled bids from competing methods. This approach is followed by a discussion of each platform's limitations and versatility. Results indicate that UAS and SMAV and can compete efficiently on aerial photogrammetric mapping up to at least 1,000 acres when the equipment gets enough usage. It is conjectured that this methodology will exert significant downward pressure on the cost of high-end sensors. [Termes IGN] varianceRésumé : (Auteur) The present study adopts an integrative modelling methodology, which combines the strengths of the SLEUTH model and the Conservation Assessment and Prioritization System (CAPS) method. By developing a scenario-based geographic information system simulation environment for Hashtpar City, Iran, the manageability of the landscape under each urban growth scenario is analysed. In addition, the CAPS approach was used for biodiversity conservation suitability mapping. The SLEUTH model was implemented to generate predictive urban layers of the years 2020, 2030, 2040 and 2050 for each scenario (dynamic factors for conservation suitability mapping). Accordingly, conservation suitability surface of the area is updated for each time point and under each urban development storyline. Two-way analysis of variance and Duncan’s new multiple range tests were employed to compare the functionality of the three scenarios. Based on results, the managed urban growth scenario depicted better results for manageability of the landscape and less negative impact on conservation suitability values. [Termes IGN] utilisateurRésumé : (Auteur) This article reports on the results of an online survey with 290 heterogeneous users of the interactive mapping platform WorldMap and provides insights into problems faced by such users. Heterogeneous users are users with a variety of GIS skills, educational background, gender, and age categories. We investigate how they interact with online maps and analyse their experience. WorldMap represents as a case study of an online mapping platform which aims to serve researchers and users across disciplines in viewing and creating online interactive maps. We concentrate on operations that are perceived as difficult and very difficult by the majority of users as well as operations that are rarely used. Our aim is to contribute to the discussions on how to improve the design of online GIS-based mapping platforms. We conclude the paper with reflections on the results of our study and ideas for further research.
