[Vedettes matières IGN] Végétation et changement climatiqueRésumé : (auteur) Cork rings have been extensively used in dendroecological studies of the Mediterranean evergreen cork oak (Quercus suber L.). Through measurements of cork-ring width only, strong relationships have been found between cork-ring widths and climate parameters. To our knowledge, cork-ring density, which is an important cork quality attribute, has never been used in any dendroecological study to explore physiological responses of the cork oak to climate change. In this study, we measured cork-ring width and density over 50 years (1962–2013), corresponding to five consecutive cork harvests, and analyzed their inter-annual fluctuations in eight trees from two different sites, a wetter peneplain area (Benavente) and a drier mountainous area (Grândola). Our results revealed a statistically significant correlation between cork-ring width and density (p Numéro de notice : A2022-915 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : FORET Nature : Article DOI : 10.1007/s00468-022-02321-0 Date de publication en ligne : 29/06/2022 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1007/s00468-022-02321-0 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=102351

[Termes IGN] téléphonie mobileRésumé : (auteur) Digital location traces are a relevant source of insights into how citizens experience their cities. Previous works using call detail records (CDRs) tend to focus on modeling the spatial and temporal patterns of human mobility, not paying much attention to the semantics of places, thus failing to model and enhance the understanding of the motivations behind people’s mobility. In this paper, we applied a methodology for identifying individual users’ routine locations and propose an approach for attaching semantic meaning to these locations. Specifically, we used circular sectors that correspond to cellular antennas’ signal areas. In those areas, we found that all contained points of interest (POIs), extracted their most important attributes (opening hours, check-ins, category) and incorporated them into the classification. We conducted experiments with real-world data from Coimbra, Portugal, and the initial experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology to infer activities in the user’s routine areas. [Termes IGN] réseau routierRésumé : (auteur) Numerous studies have shown that OpenStreetMap (OSM) data can achieve high positional quality. However, the thematic attributes of OSM objects can be modified several times, which has a large impact on semantic heterogeneity. Identifying transition patterns within OSM feature classes is an important preliminary step for the tag recommendation algorithm, which can reduce the number of modifications and enhance the efficiency of OSM data updates. In this article, we propose an approach for discovering transition patterns among OSM feature classes. We first produced the transition matrix of feature classes and then developed a graph. Next, the Louvain method for community detection was utilized to cluster the feature classes. OSM data from Indiana, USA, and the Azores, Portugal, were used for our experiments. Some transition patterns were discovered: (1) many feature classes with the most transitions are the same in both datasets and most transitions occur in road-related feature classes; (2) people tend to tag general classes if they are unsure of the specific classes of tagged objects; and (3) most class transitions occurred as a result of volunteers improving the specificity and precision of feature classes. Moreover, consistently confusing concept pairs were identified. [Vedettes matières IGN] Ecologie forestièreRésumé : (auteur) Forest certification is a conservation tool, which aims to promote the sustainable management and conservation of forest ecosystems. Establishing set-aside or lower intervention conservation zones to promote biodiversity conservation is a requisite of forest certification. We tested the effects of conservation zones on the tree biometrics and regeneration, as well as on the taxonomic, functional, and structural diversity of the shrub and herb understory, in Mediterranean oak woodlands. We also assessed how oak biometrics, regeneration and understory diversity varied among conservation zones established 10, 14, and 20 years before our sampling dates. Oak regeneration tended to be higher in conservation zones than in controls, but results varied with the age of conservation zones. For example, the abundance of oak seedlings and saplings was higher in 10-year-old conservation zones than in those established 20 years ago. Abundance of young oak trees was higher in 14-year-old conservation zones than in 10- and 20-year-old conservation zones. The understory vertical diversity was significantly higher in 14- and 20-year-old conservation zones than in controls. Functional diversity differed significantly between conservation zones and controls, with a higher abundance of late-successional shrubs, namely fleshy-fruited species in 20-year-old conservation zones. The plant species composition of the shrub and the herb understory was most dissimilar between older conservation zones and controls. Additionally, the cover and diversity of the understory herb species decreased with the age of conservation zones. Conservation zones implemented under forest certification increase habitat structural complexity of oak woodlands, which may benefit wildlife species, but there will be trade-offs with the cover and diversity of the herb understory. Forest managers must evaluate such trade-offs when establishing conservation zones in cork oak woodlands under forest certification schemes. [Termes IGN] web mappingRésumé : (auteur) To do territorial planning, we need several maps referring to different layers of information necessary to represent the territory according to a vast set of variables. At the Portuguese municipal level, the municipal master plan (PDM – plano diretor municipal) is the territorial management tool responsible for long-term territorial planning and ordering. Since the PDM will constrain the citizens’ lives, it should be of easy access and interpretation. However, due to its large amount of information, it is often hard for them to understand what is presented using only static cartographic elements. Comparing 60 Web sites that present geographical information for a wider public, we found that narrative, visual, and interactive elements and data presentation in flexible portions with the necessary information for partitioning, browsing, or querying made the data more engaging. This flexibility is particularly important with large data sets, where decreasing the level of complexity is vital for proper understanding and analysis. We found that geoportals dedicated to territorial public policies lack narrative elements that would improve comprehension. Since it is difficult for the general public to understand the strategy the municipality wants to implement, the desired public participation, although possible, will return poor results.
