[Termes IGN] régressionRésumé : (auteur) There are two major problems in Rational Function Model (RFM) solution: (a) Data source error, including gross error, random error, and systematic error; and (b) Model error, including over-parameterization and over-correction issues caused by unnecessary RFM parameters and exaggeration of random error in constant term of error-in-variables (EIV) model, respectively. In order to solve two major problems simultaneously, we propose a new approach named stepwise-then-orthogonal regression (STOR) with quality control. First, RFM parameters are selected by stepwise regression with gross error detection. Second, the revised orthogonal distance regression is utilized to adjust random error and address the overcorrection problem. Third, systematic error is compensated by Fourier series. The performance of conventional strategies and the proposed STOR are evaluated by control and check grids generated from SPOT5 high-resolution imagery. Compared with the least squares regression, partial least squares regression, ridge regression, and stepwise regression, the proposed STOR shows a significant improvement in accuracy. [Termes IGN] véhicule aérienRésumé : (auteur) Specific professional bids to perform aerial data collection using large manned aerial vehicles (LMAV), small manned aerial vehicles (SMAV), and small unmanned aerial systems (UAS) were used to generate general bid models. From these bid models, it was determined what collection methods were competitive for particular jobs based on the project area, distance from the airport or office, and the modeled bids from competing methods. This approach is followed by a discussion of each platform's limitations and versatility. Results indicate that UAS and SMAV and can compete efficiently on aerial photogrammetric mapping up to at least 1,000 acres when the equipment gets enough usage. It is conjectured that this methodology will exert significant downward pressure on the cost of high-end sensors. [Termes IGN] reconstruction d'objetRésumé : (auteur) This paper presents a novel approach to recover true fine surface detail of deforming meshes reconstructed from multi-view video. Template-based methods for performance capture usually produce a coarse-to-medium scale detail 4D surface reconstruction which does not contain the real high-frequency geometric detail present in the original video footage. Fine scale deformation is often incorporated in a second pass by using stereo constraints, features, or shading-based refinement. In this paper, we propose an alternative solution to this second stage by formulating dense dynamic surface reconstruction as a global optimization problem of the densely deforming surface. Our main contribution is an implicit representation of a deformable mesh that uses a set of Gaussian functions on the surface to represent the initial coarse mesh, and a set of Gaussians for the images to represent the original captured multi-view images. We effectively find the fine scale deformations for all mesh vertices, which maximize photo-temporal-consistency, by densely optimizing our model-to-image consistency energy on all vertex positions. Our formulation yields a smooth closed form energy with implicit occlusion handling and analytic derivatives. Furthermore, it does not require error-prone correspondence finding or discrete sampling of surface displacement values. We demonstrate our approach on a variety of datasets of human subjects wearing loose clothing and performing different motions. We qualitatively and quantitatively demonstrate that our technique successfully reproduces finer detail than the input baseline geometry. [Termes IGN] point d'appuiRésumé : (auteur) Long-term observations of the Antarctic ice sheet will contribute to a quantitative evaluation and precise prediction of the sea level change induced by global changes in climate. This paper proposes an improved rigorous geometric modeling method for the declassified KH-5 ARGON satellite images collected in Antarctica in 1960s. The scanned film images are preprocessed beforehand to enhance the quality for further analysis. Systematic errors such as lens distortion and atmospheric refraction are also considered and corrected. A scheme is proposed to measure the ground control points for the historical images based on modern image mosaic and DEM products. The bundle adjustment results of four blocks in regions in East Antarctica present a geometric positioning accuracy of less than one nominal pixel resolution (140 m) in both horizontal and vertical directions, outperforming the published results. A regional DEM of the ice sheet that represents the topography in 1963 is then generated from the stereo ARGON images for the first time, the evaluation of which shows its consistency with the modern product but with great value for studying the recent change history of the ice sheet.
