[Termes IGN] structure-from-motionRésumé : (Auteur) In this article, we present two new approaches for image orientation with a focus on robustness, starting with relative orientations of available image pairs, an incremental and a global one, and compare their performance. For the incremental approach, we first choose a suitable initial image pair, and we then iteratively extend the image cluster by adding new images. The rotations of these newly added images are estimated from relative rotations by single rotation averaging. In the next step, a linear equation system is set up for each new image to solve the translation parameters with triangulated tie points that can be viewed in that new image, followed by a resection for refinement. Finally, we refine the orientation parameters of the images by a local bundle adjustment. We also present a global method that consists of two parts: global rotation averaging, followed by setting up a large linear equation system to solve for all image translation parameters simultaneously; a final bundle adjustment is carried out to refine the results. We compare these two methods by analyzing results on different benchmark sets, including ordered and unordered image data sets from the Internet and two other challenging data sets to demonstrate the performance of our two approaches. We conclude that while the incremental method typically yields results of higher accuracy and performs better on the challenging data sets, our global method runs significantly faster. [Termes IGN] point d'appuiRésumé : (Auteur) To improve the accuracy of sensor orientation using calibrated aerial images, this paper proposes an automatic sensor orientation method utilizing horizontal and vertical constraints on human-engineered structures, addressing the limitations faced with sub-optimal number of Ground Control Points (GCPs) within a scene. Related state-of-the-art methods rely on structured building edges, and necessitate manual identification of end points. Our method makes use of line-segments but eliminates the need for these matched end points, thus eliminating the need for inefficient manual intervention.
To achieve this, a 3D line in object space is represented by the intersection of two planes going through two camera centers. The normal vector of each plane can be written as a function of a pair of azimuth and elevations angles. The normal vector of the 3D line can be expressed by the cross product of these two plane’s normal vectors. Then, we create observation functions of horizontal and vertical line constraints based on the zero-vector cross-product and the dot-product of the normal vector of the 3D lines. The observation functions of the horizontal and vertical lines are then introduced into a hybrid Bundle Adjustment (BA) method as constraints, including observed image points as well as observed line segment projections. Finally, to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method, simulated and real data are tested. Nevertheless, the dimensional difference of points and lines and the inconsistency of their methods of representation result in low calculation efficiency. In this paper, it is proposed that three-dimensional points and four-dimensional lines are uniformly represented by Plücker coordinates to achieve integrated coordinate transformation. According to the geometric conditions that lines intersect lines and planes intersect planes, a relative orientation model based on pointline via Plücker coordinates (P-LPRO) is established, and the error equation is linearized by the least-squares method. Experimental results show that the integrated adjustment solution of P-LPRO is more accurate than the traditional method and can achieve faster convergence speed. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (Auteur) In the last two decades, the integration of a terrestrial laser scanner (TLS) and digital photogrammetry, besides other sensors integration, has received considerable attention for deformation monitoring of natural or man-made structures. Typically, a TLS is used for an area-based deformation analysis. A high-resolution digital camera may be attached on top of the TLS to increase the accuracy and completeness of deformation analysis by optimally combining points or line features extracted both from three-dimensional (3D) point clouds and captured images at different epochs of time. For this purpose, the external calibration parameters between the TLS and digital camera needs to be determined precisely. The camera calibration and internal TLS calibration are commonly carried out in advance in the laboratory environments. The focus of this research is to highly accurately and robustly estimate the external calibration parameters between the fused sensors using signalised target points. The observables are the image measurements, the 3D point clouds, and the horizontal angle reading of a TLS. In addition, laser tracker observations are used for the purpose of validation. The functional models are determined based on the space resection in photogrammetry using the collinearity condition equations, the 3D Helmert transformation and the constraint equation, which are solved in a rigorous bundle adjustment procedure. Three different adjustment procedures are developed and implemented: (1) an expectation maximization (EM) algorithm to solve a Gauss-Helmert model (GHM) with grouped t-distributed random deviations, (2) a novel EM algorithm to solve a corresponding quasi-Gauss-Markov model (qGMM) with t-distributed pseudo-misclosures, and (3) a classical least-squares procedure to solve the GHM with variance components and outlier removal. The comparison of the results demonstrates the precise, reliable, accurate and robust estimation of the parameters in particular by the second and third procedures in comparison to the first one. In addition, the results show that the second procedure is computationally more efficient than the other two. The paper proposes two improved methods including distortion model optimization and depth estimation refinement for a lenslet light field camera. For distortion model optimization, a novel 14-parameter distortion model that involves sub-aperture images generation is applied to correct the light field camera images. For depth estimation refinement, an algorithm reducing the high influence of outliers on depth estimation in weak texture regions is proposed based on multi-view stereo matching using the cost volume. Experimental results show the projection error has decreased by about 30% and the depth root-mean-squared error on real world images has decreased by about 42% with our distortion correction method and depth estimation method compared with state of art algorithms. It verifies the correctness and effectiveness of our proposed methods and show significant improvement on accuracy of depth map estimation.
