[Termes IGN] point d'appuiRésumé : (Auteur) The main obstacle to achieving high precision in georeferencing from high-resolution satellite imagery (hrsi) remains the need for provision of good quality ground control points (GCPs), whether the GCPs are used to remove biases in RFC triangulation or to support physical sensor orientation models. The provision of GCPs can be very costly and is often not feasible in remote regions, the very areas where mapping from satellite imagery shows significant potential. In order to drastically reduce the number of GCPs required for georeferencing from HRSI, a generic sensor orientation model incorporating strip adjustment capability has been adopted. Under this approach, the metadata for each separate scene is merged to produce a single, continuous set of orbit and attitude parameters, such that the entire strip of tens of images can be treated as a single image. The merging of orbit data results in a considerable reduction in both the number of unknown parameters and the number of required GCPs in the sensor orientation. RPCs are then generated from the adjusted orientation data for each image forming the strip or block. Application of the method to very long strips of ALOS PRISM imagery is reported in this paper. The results of experimental testing indicate that one-pixel level accuracy can be achieved over strip lengths of more than 50 ALOS images, or 1,500 km, with as few as four GCPs. [Termes IGN] scène urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Terrestrial geolocalized images are nowadays widely used on the Internet, mainly in urban areas, through immersion services such as Google Street View. On the long run, we seek to enhance the visualization of these images. For that purpose, radiometric corrections must be performed to free them from illumination conditions at the time of acquisition. Given the simultaneously acquired 3D geometric model of the scene with LIDAR or vision techniques, we face an inverse problem where the illumination and the geometry of the scene are known and the reflectance of the scene is to be estimated. Our main contribution is the introduction of a symbolic ray-tracing rendering to generate parametric images, for quick evaluation and comparison with the acquired images. The proposed approach is then based on an iterative estimation of the reflectance parameters of the materials, using a single rendering pre-processing. We validate the method on synthetic data with linear BRDF models and discuss the limitations of the proposed approach with more general non-linear BRDF models. [Termes IGN] recouvrement d'imagesRésumé : (Auteur) Automation in 3-dimension (3D) object reconstruction is a relevant and challenging task, both from a practical and scientific point of view. This paper deals with two basic non-planar primitive objects—spatial polygons and 3D closed curves. To achieve 3D information from a pair of images, with known interior and exterior orientations, it is necessary to first extract t2D objects from each of the images separately, then match the objects to find homologues points between them, and finally reconstruct the 3D object. The matching problem between two objects derived from two different images, has a trivial solution: For each point in the first object the corresponding homologous point in the second object can be found by intersecting its epipolar line and the second object in the second image space. However, because extraction of objects in the image space is performed automatically, the process often fails. For example, when there are a number of intersections per point there is no intersection at all, or there are more points than those existing in the “real” 3D object. To overcome these difficulties, innovative algorithms designed to enable a maximal matching between polygons or closed curves and to find homologues points between them were developed. The algorithms are iterative and are based on the “overlapping criterion” between the objects. According to this criterion, projection of two polygons or closed curves from the image space to any planar surface using the real depths leads to a maximal matching between the objects. The suggested process is based on the well known optimization model called “adjustment by conditions.” One of the 2D polygons or closed curves is chosen as the static object and the other is the dynamic object. The unknowns in this model are the real depths of each point in the dynamic object. The points in the dynamic object are assigned a previously calculated average depth. In each iteration, these depths are updated until the conditional equation is optimized. During the iterations the dynamic object “slides” in the direction of the epipolar line in the image space of the static object. The “slide” rate is not constant because it depends on the varying depths of each point. The iteration process stops when the maximum overlap between the static and dynamic objects is achieved in the image space of the static object. In this paper, the algorithms, the experiments, and the results are detailed. Des problèmes de distorsions géométriques, de changements d'illumination, de changement d'échelle et de configurations texturales complexes peuvent entraîner des ambiguïtés d'appariement, notamment pour l'appariement d'images rapprochées. Cet article présente une méthode d'appariement d'images rapprochées multiples pour la reconstruction de surfaces basée sur une contrainte auto-adaptative sur des triangles. Cette méthode a deux particularités. Tout d'abord, les triangles construits à partir de points précédemment appariés définissent de fortes contraintes pour les appariements ultérieurs, qui sont combinées aux contraintes d'orientation et de disparité des gradients. La mise à jour dynamique de l'appariement s'adapte automatiquement aux changements de textures. Par ailleurs, un contrôle de consistance est effectué dans l'espace objet pour éliminer d'éventuelles erreurs d'appariement. Les résultats expérimentaux obtenus sur trois jeux de triplets stéréoscopiques d'images rapprochées montrent que la méthode proposée améliore la fiabilité de l'appariement pour des images rapprochées. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper an automated methodology is presented (i) to orient a set of close-range images captured with a calibrated camera, and (ii) to extract dense and accurate point clouds starting from the estimated orientation parameters. The whole procedure combines different algorithms and techniques in order to obtain accurate 3D reconstructions in an automatic way. The exterior orientation parameters are estimated using a photogrammetric bundle adjustment with the image correspondences detected using area- and feature-based matching algorithms. Surface measurements are then performed using advanced multi-image matching techniques based on multiple image primitives. To demonstrate the reliability, precision and robustness of the procedure, several tests on different kinds of free-form objects are illustrated and discussed in the paper. Three-dimensional comparisons with range-based data are also carried out.
