[Termes IGN] vidéo numériqueRésumé : (Auteur) With the wide spread of smartphones, a large number of user-generated videos are produced everyday. The embedded sensors, e.g., GPS and the digital compass, make it possible that videos are accessed based on their geo-properties. In our previous work, we have created a framework for integrated, sensor-rich video acquisition (with one instantiation implemented in the form of smartphone applications) which associates a continuous stream of location and viewing direction information with the collected videos, hence allowing them to be expressed and manipulated as spatio-temporal objects. These sensor meta-data are considerably smaller in size compared to the visual content and are helpful in effectively and efficiently searching for geo-tagged videos in large-scale repositories. In this study, we propose a novel three-level grid-based index structure and introduce a number of related query types, including typical spatial queries and ones based on bounded radius and viewing direction restriction. These two criteria are important in many video applications and we demonstrate the importance with a real-world dataset. Moreover, experimental results on a large-scale synthetic dataset show that our approach can provide a significant speed improvements of at least 30 %, considering a mix of queries, compared to a multi-dimensional R-tree implementation. [Termes IGN] système de référence localRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a novel stereo-imaging network design strategy comprising four steps: datum definition, optimum distance estimation, candidate camera position generation, and lastly clustering and selection of vantage viewpoints. An approximate 3D mesh model of an object from a quick low-cost system is used in the first step of the method. An ellipsoid is fitted to the rough model in order to find a suitable imaging distance regarding range- and visibility-related constraints for a stereopair. Next, a set of viewpoints is provided taking into account the ellipsoid and the calculated distance. Finally, camera positions and orientations are defined by clustering and choosing the vantage viewpoints. A system, called “imaging network designer” (IND), has been developed based on this method and is evaluated with two different tests. Results show that IND can provide an imaging network, which fulfils the expected precision for the entire object. The recent integration of computer vision algorithms and photogrammetric methods is leading to interesting procedures which have increasingly automated the entire image-based 3D modelling process. Image matching is one of the key steps in 3D modelling and mapping. This paper presents a critical review and analysis of four dense image-matching algorithms, available as open-source and commercial software, for the generation of dense point clouds. The eight datasets employed include scenes recorded from terrestrial and aerial blocks, acquired with convergent and normal (parallel axes) images, and with different scales. Geometric analyses are reported in which the point clouds produced with each of the different algorithms are compared with one another and also to ground-truth data. [Termes IGN] ZiYuan-3Résumé : (Auteur) The ZiYuan-3 surveying satellite (ZY-3), launched on 9th January 2012, is China's first civilian high-resolution stereo mapping satellite. To ensure the mapping accuracy of ZY-3, considerable research has been conducted since its launch on the calibration and validation of its three-line array charge-coupled device (CCD) sensors (TLC sensors). Its dynamic exterior systematic errors (such as camera installation errors) and static interior distortion were eliminated using 1:2000 digital orthophotomaps and digital elevation models (DEMs) of the Dengfeng (Henan) and Tianjin areas of China as control data. Various CCD alignment calibration models were compared, on the basis of their geometric accuracy after calibration, to determine the optimal model. Finally, validation experiments were performed using ZY-3 TLC images and ground control points (GCPs) collected over Anping in Hebei Province, Zhaodong in Heilongjiang Province and the Taihang Mountain area in China. The positioning accuracy attained its theoretical value over the Anping and Zhaodong areas. Using GCPs whose image coordinates were obtained manually, the plan and height accuracy were found to be better than 3 m and 2 m, respectively. [Termes IGN] simulationRésumé : (Auteur) Improvements in communication and processing technologies have opened the doors to exploit on-board cameras to compute objects’ spatial attitude using only the visual information from sequences of remote sensed images. The strategies and the algorithmic approach used to extract such information affect the estimation accuracy of the three-axis orientation of the object. This work presents a method for analyzing the most relevant error sources, including numerical ones, possible drift effects and their influence on the overall accuracy, referring to vision-based approaches. The method in particular focuses on the analysis of the image registration algorithm, carried out through on-purpose simulations. The overall accuracy has been assessed on a challenging case study, for which accuracy represents the fundamental requirement. In particular, attitude determination has been analyzed for small satellites, by comparing theoretical findings to metric results from simulations on realistic ground-truth data. Significant laboratory experiments, using a numerical control unit, have further confirmed the outcome. We believe that our analysis approach, as well as our findings in terms of error characterization, can be useful at proof-of-concept design and planning levels, since they emphasize the main sources of error for visual based approaches employed for satellite attitude estimation. Nevertheless, the approach we present is also of general interest for all the affine applicative domains which require an accurate estimation of three-dimensional orientation parameters (i.e., robotics, airborne stabilization).
