[Termes IGN] traitement du signalRésumé : (Auteur) Three-dimensional imaging systems have evolved significantly in the last two decades due to increase in demand for tasks in the field of close range photogrammetry. The fast and growing need of 3D imaging devices has given rise to range image technology, especially time-of-flight (TOF) cameras, that provide direct measurement of distance between the camera and the targeted surface. A significant advantage of TOF devices over traditional range data sensors is their capability to provide frame rate range data over a full image array. In phase shift TOF cameras, phase shift sampling of the received signal is used to measure amplitude, phase and the offset (intensity) of the received signal. As a result, the quality of the measurement of these sensors depends heavily on signal-to-noise (SNR) of the incoming signal and the subsequent processing algorithms. A detailed understanding of the statistical distributions of the measurement parameters is crucial for accurate distance measurement analysis especially in low SNR scenarios. In this paper, we provide explicit noise models for the three parameters of amplitude, phase and intensity. The proposed stochastic model helps in investigating the effect of noise on signal and classifying range data reliability in TOF cameras. The model is used for prediction of errors in a TOF camera under various SNR conditions. Experimental verification confirms the validity of the model using real data for range error classification under different noise conditions. [Termes IGN] UltraCamRésumé : (Auteur) Microsoft’s Global Ortho (GO) project aims to capture the entire continental United States and Western Europe at a spatial resolution of 30 centimetres, using UltraCamG digital aerial cameras. The GO project produced the first imagery in August 2010 and has to date captured 46% of the area and published 2.21km2. The entire project is scheduled for completion by June 2012, to be followed by a three-year refresh cycle. The author discusses the GO project, as well as features of the UltraCamG and the new UltraCam Eagle digital aerial cameras. The latter was launched as a commercial offering in May 2011. [Termes IGN] test de performanceRésumé : (Auteur) Novel photogrammetric sensors open up new possibilities for measuring the radiometric and geometric properties of the Earth’s surface. To ensure optimal use of these complex, rapidly developing, diverse systems, it is becoming crucial to have a means of calibrating and validating complete imaging systems, and even production lines, in operational conditions. This paper presents a calibration and validation methodology based on a permanent test site (Sjökulla) and demonstrates its use in a calibration and validation campaign for a large-format photogrammetric imaging system, the Intergraph DMC. The major objective of the campaign was to perform acceptance testing of the new camera system procured by the National Land Survey of Finland. The evaluation proved the high geometric and radiometric performance of the imaging system and demonstrated the potential of spectrodirectional photogrammetric 3D imaging. The usability aspects of test site calibration and validation from the point of view of a mapping organisation were also considered. [Termes IGN] UltraCamRésumé : (Auteur) This article compares the use of ADS40-52, DMC, and Ultra-CamD digital airborne camera imagery for mapping benthic habitat and identifying boat propeller scars in seagrass habitats. The three image data sets were collected over Redfish Bay, Texas on the same day, under almost identical environmental conditions. Next, the data sets were compared to each another using a variety of criteria. Finally, automated methods were used to create maps of propeller scars and the accuracy of each map was analyzed. Significant findings include: 1- Digital airborne ADS40-52, DMC, and Ultra-Cam imagery can be used to effectively map benthic habitat and propeller scars. 2- Imagery from the DMC and ADS40-52 had the highest spatial accuracy. 3- Spectral separatability of benthic habitat class and propeller scars is best in the DMC and the ADS40-52 imagery. 4- The accuracy of propeller scar maps was highest for maps produced from the ADS40-52 data.
