[Termes IGN] test de performanceRésumé : (Auteur) Integrated multi-sensor systems, with their major progress in terms of sensor resolution, data rate and operational flexibility, have become a very attractive mapping tool over the last decade. In aerial mapping application, for example, Exterior Orientation (EO) parameters for the imaging sensors are required. Using the integrated Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) with Inertial Measurement Units (IMU), direct determination of the EO parameters can be obtained from the integrated system navigation solution. This process is referred to as Direct Georeferencing (DG). DG provides substantial benefits over the indirect determination method of estimating the EO parameters from conventional Aerial Triangulation (AT) techniques using a block of images with a sufficient number of known control points. These benefits include the ability to map remote and inaccessible regions, and by replacing tie point measurements/matching and AT, significant cost-savings can be obtained for projects that do not require stereo models (such as projects with existing DEM or single image). The accuracy of DG, however, is limited by the accuracy attainable by the DGPS and any residual datum calibration errors. These can typically be as large as 10 cm RMSE, which is not sufficient for some large scale mapping applications. However, by combining the direct EO data a traditional block adjustment, AT techniques can be used to remove the residual errors in the solution. This technique is known as Integrated Sensor Orientation (ISO). It has several advantages over traditional AT, primarily because the stable geometry provided by direct EO can reduce the number of required GCP and tie-point to a minimum. At the same time, ISO provides an excellent tool for Quality Control/Quality Assurance (QC/QA) of the EO derived from a DG system. This paper examines the factors that determine the system performance for ISO. In addition, examples are given to illustrate the expected accuracy of an aerial mapping project using ISO under different qualities of DGPS/IMU data. [Termes IGN] point d'appuiRésumé : (Auteur) The correct georeferencing of remote sensing images is a fundamental task in the photogrammetric processing for orthoimages and DEM generation and for feature extraction. In this paper, we focus on the georeferencing of pushbroom sensors with rigorous models, that is, approaches that are based on the photogrammetric collinearity equations and describe the exact acquisition geometry of the sensors. By solving a bundle adjustment, the sensor external orientation and additional geometric parameters describing the internal orientation are estimated. We tested two rigorous models developed in academic groups for the georeferencing of a stereopair from QuickBird. The first model (M1) has been implemented at the University La Sapienza, Rome. It is specifically designed for the orthorectification of pushbroom sensors carried on satellite platforms with asynchronous acquisition mode, like EROS-A and QuickBird. The model, implemented in the software SISAR, reconstructs of the orbital segment during the image acquisition through the knowledge of Keplerian orbital parameters, the sensor attitude, internal orientation and the self-calibration parameters. The second model (M2) is a rigorous sensor model for pushbroom linear array sensors, carried on airborne or spaceborne platforms. It estimates the parameters modelling the sensor internal and external orientation through a bundle adjustment, using a suitable number of ground control points. Our research included the orientation of the single images with rigorous model M1, the orientation of the stereo pair with rigorous model M2 and the comparison of the results with a rigorous model contained in commercial software (PCI OrthoEngine). The results demonstrate that by using rigorous models it is possible to achieve RMSE smaller than 1 pixel in the GPs if a sufficient number of GCPs are used. [Termes IGN] orientation relativeRésumé : (Auteur) Consumer-grade digital cameras have become commonplace and with calibration there is significant potential for their use in photogrammetric applications. This paper describes a new method for automatic camera calibration, which is suited to colour digital cameras. Two innovations are central to the developed process. The first is exploitation of RGB colour attributes in the design of automatically detected and identified coded targets. The second is a new approach to initial value determination for relative orientation, which then supports fully automatic initial network exterior orientation and subsequent bundle adjustment with self-calibration. Accuracy aspects are also touched upon and the impact of chromatic aberration is discussed. Finally, an example of the automatic calibration process, which is implemented in the iWitness system, is presented for the case of multiple zoom settings of a consumer-grade digital camera. [Termes IGN] trafic routierRésumé : (Auteur) The recent transition from analog to totally digital data acquisition and processing techniques in airborne surveying represents a major milestone in the evolution of spatial information science and practice. On one hand, the improved quality of the primary sensor data can provide the foundation for better automation of the information extraction processes. This phenomenon is also strongly supported by continuously expanding computer technology, which offers almost unlimited processing power. On the other hand, the variety of the data, including rich information content and better temporal characteristics, acquired by the new digital sensors and coupled with rapidly advancing processing techniques, is broadening the applications of airborne surveying. One of these new application areas is traffic flow extraction aimed at supporting better traffic monitoring and management. Transportation mapping has always represented a significant segment of civilian mapping and is mainly concerned with road corridor mapping for design and engineering purposes, infrastructure mapping and facility management, and more recently, environmental mapping. In all these cases, the objective of the mapping is to extract the static features of the object space, such as man-made and natural objects, typically along the road network. In contrast, the traffic moving in the transportation network represents a very dynamic environment, which complicates the spatial data extraction processes as the signals of moving vehicles should be identified and removed. Rather than removing and discarding the signals, however, they can be turned into traffic flow information. This paper reviews initial research efforts to extract traffic flow information from laserscanner and digital camera sensors installed in airborne platforms.
