[Termes IGN] tachéomètreRésumé : (Auteur) This paper explores the astrogeodetic deflection of the vertical (VD) determination with a light-weight tachymeter-based measurement system called ‘QDaedalus’ developed at ETH Zurich. A description of the relevant components of the system is given to show the set-up and operation. The measuring process including CCD-tachymeter calibration and the astronomical data processing are summarised. The paper then analyses the achievable accuracy of VDs based on new measurement data acquired in Bavaria over several nights. Our measurements were executed atop a pillar on the roof of the TUM and at six stations in the Bavarian Alps (Estergebirge) with highly accurate VDs from previous digital zenith camera measurements available. Our comparisons indicate an accuracy level of 0.15–0.20 arc-seconds for VDs measured with QDaedalus. As a conclusion, our results show that the QDaedalus system is a promising sensor for accurate local astronomical gravity field surveys when a zenith camera is not available. [Termes IGN] photogrammétrie métrologiqueRésumé : (Auteur) The combination of digital close-range photogrammetric systems and image processing techniques has been employed in structural health monitoring applications for more than 10 years. The use of off-the-shelf entry level digital single-lens reflex cameras has lately become a suitable choice even for applications requiring sub-millimetre- level precision especially when the involved devices need to be inexpensive. The drawback of such low-cost cameras is in the trade-off between spatial resolution, frame rate, and burst rate—at the highest available spatial resolution, a high frame rate is either not possible or it has a low burst rate. This may be problematic when monitoring a structural component during a dynamic/fatigue test. In order to estimate specimen motion in such a situation, this paper proposes an innovative sinusoidal fitting based on a least squares adjustment. This method simultaneously processes multiple bursts of data in order to synthetically increase the sampling frequency of the system. The input data for the adjustment comes from a full surface modelling procedure based on a newly proposed generalized 3D polynomial. The experimental results include a beam deformation test performed in a structures laboratory. The new sinusoidal fitting method effectively increased the system temporal resolution three-fold, which improved the precision of the derived parameters with up to two orders of magnitude. The root mean square error of the residuals were as good as 26 μm, and the one of the estimated amplitudes from the photogrammetric system versus a set of laser transducers used as control was as small as 43 μm. [Termes IGN] système de numérisation mobileRésumé : (Auteur) Lidar sensors are widely used in mobile mapping systems. With recent developments, these sensors provide large volumes of data which are necessary for some applications that require a high level of detail. Multibeam lidar sensors can provide this level of detail, but need a specific calibration routine to provide the best precision possible. Because they have multiple beams, the calibration of such sensors is difficult and is not well represented in the literature. This work presents an automatic method for the optimisation of the calibration parameters of a multibeam lidar sensor mounted on a mobile platform. The proposed approach does not require any calibration target, and only uses information from the acquired point clouds, which makes it simple to use. The goal of the optimisation is to find calibration parameters that will improve the structure of the data. At the end of the automatic process, a confidence value is provided for the calibration parameters found. [Termes IGN] structure-from-motionRésumé : (Auteur) We describe a fast and efficient camera pose refinement and Structure from Motion (SfM) method for sequential aerial imagery with applications to georegistration and 3-D reconstruction. Inputs to the system are 2-D images combined with initial noisy camera metadata measurements, available from on-board sensors (e.g., camera, global positioning system, and inertial measurement unit). Georegistration is required to stabilize the ground-plane motion to separate camera-induced motion from object motion to support vehicle tracking in aerial imagery. In the proposed approach, we recover accurate camera pose and (sparse) 3-D structure using bundle adjustment for sequential imagery (BA4S) and then stabilize the video from the moving platform by analytically solving for the image-plane-to-ground-plane homography transformation. Using this approach, we avoid relying upon image-to-image registration, which requires estimating feature correspondences (i.e., matching) followed by warping between images (in a 2-D space) that is an error prone process for complex scenes with parallax, appearance, and illumination changes. Both our SfM (BA4S) and our analytical ground-plane georegistration method avoid the use of iterative consensus combinatorial methods like RANdom SAmple Consensus which is a core part of many published approaches. BA4S is very efficient for long sequential imagery and is more than 130 times faster than VisualSfM, 35 times faster than MavMap, and about 274 times faster than Pix4D. Various experimental results demonstrate the efficiency and robustness of the proposed pipeline for the refinement of camera parameters in sequential aerial imagery and georegistration.
