[Termes IGN] procédure opérationnelleRésumé : (Auteur) For the rigorous, physical modeling of spaceborne, push-broom imaging sensors, over-parameterization and the resulting dependencies among sensor model parameters are a continuing issue causing instability and ambiguity during parameter estimation. Traditionally, this problem hat been tackled by a fixed subset approach or by using a priori stochastic constraints, which generally require the user's intuition or intervention but with no guarantee that an optima, solution is obtained. An efficient and automated procedure to find an optimal parameter subset, that is independent and meets accuracy requirements, has been developed and tested using six images from six representative sensors. The experimental results show a stable performance of the developed procedure which results in a quality subset by the evaluation criteria and tries to minimize the checkpoint misclosure (i.e., loocvrmse) so that the resulting subset can be considered optimum. Therefore, the proposed procedure can be beneficial to the users and sensor model developers by providing an optimal and subjective solution to the well known over-parameterization problem in satellite sensor model. [Termes IGN] Perceptron multicoucheRésumé : (Auteur) Despite the high richness of information content provided by airborne hyperspectral data, detailed urban land-cover mapping is still a challenging task. An important topic in hyperspectral remote sensing is the issue of high dimensionality, which is commonly addressed by dimensionality reduction techniques. While many studies focus on methodological developments in data reduction, less attention is paid to the assessment of the proposed methods in detailed urban hyperspectral land-cover mapping, using state-of-the-art image classification approaches. In this study we evaluate the potential of two unsupervised data reduction techniques, the Autoassociative Neural Network (AANN) and the BandClust method – the first a transformation based approach, the second a feature-selection based approach – for mapping of urban land cover at a high level of thematic detail, using an APEX 288-band hyperspectral dataset. Both methods were tested in combination with four state-of-the-art machine learning classifiers: Random Forest (RF), AdaBoost (ADB), the multiple layer perceptron (MLP), and support vector machines (SVM). When used in combination with a strong learner (MLP, SVM) BandClust produces classification accuracies similar to or higher than obtained with the full dataset, demonstrating the method’s capability of preserving critical spectral information, required for the classifier to successfully distinguish between the 22 urban land-cover classes defined in this study. In the AANN data reduction process, on the other hand, important spectral information seems to be compromised or lost, resulting in lower accuracies for three of the four classifiers tested. Detailed analysis of accuracies at class level confirms the superiority of the SVM/Bandclust combination for accurate urban land-cover mapping using a reduced hyperspectral dataset. This study also demonstrates the potential of the new APEX sensor data for detailed mapping of land cover in spatially and spectrally complex urban areas. [Termes IGN] traçabilitéRésumé : (Auteur) The calibration of remote sensing instruments is a crucial step in the generation of products tied to international reference standards. Calibrating imaging spectrometers is particularly demanding due to the high number of spatiospectral pixels and, consequently, the large amount of data acquired during calibration sequences. Storage of these data and associated metadata in an organized manner, as well as the provision of efficient tools for the data analysis and fast and repeatable calibration coefficient generation with provenance information, is key to the provision of traceable measurements. The airborne prism experiment (APEX) calibration information system is a multilayered information technology solution comprising a database based on the entity-attribute-value (EAV) paradigm and software written in Java and Matlab, providing data access, visualization and processing, and handling the data volumes over the expected lifetime of the system. Although developed in the context of APEX, the system is rather generic and may be adapted to other pushbroom-based imagers with little effort. [Termes IGN] test de performanceRésumé : (Auteur) The increasing role of pushbroom cameras in large photogrammetric projects has fostered international interest in achieving a sound knowledge of this device. In addition, the classic software tools, implemented for frame cameras, need to be adapted to cope with modified aerial triangulation and self-calibration procedures. This contribution presents the results obtained from the geometrical analysis and self-calibration of the second-generation pushbroom ADS40 camera, the SH52. For this purpose, a testfield was designed and built on the outskirts of Ávila, Spain and two blocks, flown at different heights, were imaged. A wide network of well-defined control and check points was observed in order to provide a thorough assessment of the accuracy and reliability of the camera. Empirical analysis of a variety of models within aerial triangulation as well as the use of internal camera parameters has led to an evaluation of the camera's performance in a real-life environment. [Termes IGN] photogrammétrie métrologiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Automatic camera calibration using self-calibration with the aid of coded targets is now very much the norm in close-range photogrammetry. This is irrespective of whether the cameras to be calibrated are high-end metric, or the digital SLRs and consumer-grade models that are increasingly being employed for image-based 3D measurement. Automation has greatly simplified the calibration task, but there are real prospects that important camera calibration issues may be overlooked in what has become an almost black-box operation. This paper discusses the impact of a number of such issues, some of which relate to the functional model adopted for self-calibration, and others to practical aspects which need to be taken into account when pursuing optimal calibration accuracy and integrity. Issues discussed include interior orientation stability, calibration reliability, focal plane distortion, image point distribution, variation in lens distortion with image scale, color imagery and chromatic aberration, and whether 3D object space control is warranted. By appreciating and accounting for these issues, users of automatic camera calibration will enhance the prospect of achieving an optimal recovery of scene-independent camera calibration parameters.
