[Termes IGN] précision submillimétriqueRésumé : (auteur) This paper presents two methods to calibrate a photogrammetric-based mobile mapping system. The paper is organised as follow. The first part presents the problem we are trying to solve, i.e. the calibration of multi-camera head on a mobile mapping system equipped with an Inertial Navigation System (INS). We want to estimate on the one hand the relative pose of images within the head and on the other hand the relative pose between the head and the INS. The second part presents the first calibration method which is based on observations of a sub-millimeter accuracy topometric target network. The third part explores a method to determine the calibration on-line, i.e. using the images acquired during the surveys. The final section compare the two methods on an neutral data set and resumes the pros and cons of each method. [Termes IGN] série de FourierRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a new family of rigorous and flexible mathematical self-calibration additional parameters (APs) for airborne camera calibration. Photogrammetric self-calibration can – to a very large extent – be considered as a function approximation problem in mathematics. It is shown, that algebraic polynomials are less desirable for designing self-calibration APs due to the highly correlated terms. Based on the mathematical approximation theory, we suggest that Fourier series be the optimal mathematical basis functions for self-calibration purpose. A whole family of so-called Fourier self-calibration APs is developed, whose solid theoretical foundations are the Laplace’s Equation and the Fourier Theorem. Fourier APs are orthogonal, rigorous, flexible, generic and efficient for calibrating the image distortion of frame-format airborne cameras. The high performance of Fourier APs is demonstrated in many practical tests on different camera systems, including the DMC, DMCII, UltracamX, UltracamXp and DigiCAM cameras. We illustrate the theoretical and practical advantages of the Fourier APs over the physical APs and the popular polynomial APs. The joint applications with physical models are promoted for specific applications as well. On account of the theoretical justifications and high practical performance, Fourier APs should be preferred for in situ airborne camera calibration. [Termes IGN] qualité d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) When using digital aerial cameras, quality and readability of orthophotos can no longer be specified by forward and side overlap as was the case in the era of analogue aerial surveys. By continuing to use these parameters, we condemn ourselves to inaccurate measurements and poor quality and readability of orthophotos. The author compares the flight planning parameters for nine digital cameras using building leaning, rather than overlap, as the main geometric parameter. [Termes IGN] visibilité (optique)Résumé : (auteur) The measurement of atmospheric visibility is an important element for road and air transportation safety. We propose in this paper a novel estimator of the atmospheric visibility by already existing conventional highway cameras, with a technique based on the gradient magnitude selected by applying Lambert’s law with respect to changes in lighting conditions. The response of this estimator is calibrated by non-linear regression with data from a visibility meter installed in a test site which has been instrumented with a camera. Through our technique, atmospheric visibility estimates are obtained with an average error of 30% for images taken in the day, with sky luminance between 10 and 8000 cd m−2 and visibility distances up to 15 km. Our results allow us to envision practical implementation on roadsides in the near future to determine local visibility for the benefit of road safety, meteorological observation and air quality monitoring.
