[Termes IGN] Wyoming (Etats-Unis)Résumé : (Auteur) Ecological assessment of ground cover by conventional on-the-ground point sampling is labor intensive, expensive, and biased by access. Historically, motion blur has prevented high-resolution aerial photography from being used for ground cover measurements. To reduce motion blur we used a fixed-wing, 225-kg (empty weight) airplane flown at 72 km/hr ground speed 100 in above ground level with both a modified Hulcher 70 mm camera (500mm lens, Kodak Aerocolor HS SO-846 film, 1/4,000-second shutter speed), and a Canon 11. 1 mega-pixel, automatic, digital single lens reflex, color camera (420 mm focal-length lens). The resulting very-large scale aerial (VLSA) photography had resolutions of 5.0 and 2.1 mm GSD (Ground Sample Distance) for the scanned film and digital-camera images, respectively. Motion blur was minimal. The cost for obtaining 450 VLSA photographs over a 70,800-ha watershed was $0.07 ha. We found our methods well adapted for extensive aerial surveys to monitor the ecological condition of rangeland watersheds. [Termes IGN] zoomRésumé : (Auteur) One of the well-known constraints applying to the adoption of consumer-grade digital cameras for photogrammetric measurement is the requirement to record imagery at fixed zoom and focus settings. The camera is then calibrated for the lens setting employed. This requirement arises because calibration parameters vary significantly with zoom/focus setting. In this paper, a zoom-dependent calibration process is proposed whereby the image coordinate correction model for interior orientation and lens distortion is expressed as a function of the focal length written to the EXIF header of the image file. The proposed approach frees the practitioner from the requirement to utilize fixed zoom/focus settings for the images forming the photogrammetric network. Following a review of the behaviour of camera calibration parameters with varying zoom settings, an account of the newly developed zoom-dependent calibration model is presented. Experimental results of its application to four digital cameras are analysed. These show that the proposed approach is suited to numerous applications of medium-accuracy, digital, close-range photogrammetry. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) For monitoring environmental changes, new digital remote sensors have become available that allow monitoring and change detection analyses at resolutions and scales that were deemed impossible just a few years ago. The advent of airborne stereo scanners of ultra high spatial resolution offers the possibility of a complete digital remote sensing processing System. Current sensors include the High-resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC), the ADS-40, and the Digital Mapping Camera (DMC). For automated analysis, however, the new sensors require also new processing techniques. This paper presents results of change monitoring analyses for areas along the shorelines of the Elbe and Weser rivers in North Germany using integrated HRSC and GIS datasets. An automated procedure for highly accurate mapping was developed which is based on a hierarchical stepwise approach integrating GIS methods and digital surface information in this process. This approach allows the production of GIS maps that are more detailed and accurate than those that were previously produced by conventional means. Within the GIS environment, the multitemporal analysis also allows the exact quantification and location of changes of the protected biotope types. [Termes IGN] image obliqueRésumé : (Auteur) The 2006 edition of the ASPRS Annual Conference was held in Reno, Nevada between 1st and 5th may and attracted 1350 participants. As usual they were offered the first-class technical exhibition that we have come to expect at this meeting. Almost all the major system suppliers and software houses were present, as were several of the main commercial providers of mapping services in North America. Besides which, all the major U.S. government agencies concerned with mapping (USGS, NOAA, NIMA, EPA, NASA) had interesting displays. However a special feature of this year's technical exhibition was the introduction of a number of new airborne digital frame cameras based on the latest generation of larger-format CCD area arrays that have been released by the manufacturers over the last half-year or so. These arrays provide a substantial increase in performance, especially in terms of the ground coverage and resolution that can be achieved within an individual frame image. Besides these important products, the exhibition also saw the launch of a new airborne multiple camera system and a new airborne pushbroom scanner, both designed to acquire oblique digital imagery. Yet another introduction was that of a new model of an airborne laser scanner. On the DPW front, the exhibition saw the introduction of a number of stereo-displays, including an example of an auto-stereoscopic system, as well as numerous enhancements to DPW software. [Termes IGN] test de performanceRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper the calibration of Optech ALTM 3100 laser scanner intensity is reported using airborne experiments and known brightness targets. The Finnish Geodetic Institute has had a permanent photogrammetric test field in Sjokulla Kirkkonummi since 1994. This test field contains permanent and transportable test targets for radiometric calibration, permanent ground control points for small, medium and large-scale geometric calibration and also test bar targets for spatial analysis of analogue and digital aerial cameras. Since 2000 LiDAR testing has also been carried out, the latest being Optech ALTM 3100 campaign in 12-14 July 2005. Eight portable brightness targets with nominal reflectance of 5 %, 10 %, 20 %, 25 %, 30 %, 45 %, 50 % and 70 % were in use for LiDAR testing. Flying heights were about 200, 1000 and 3000 m above ground level. Intensity values need to be corrected with respect to range, incidence angle (both BRDF and range correction), atmospheric transmittance, attenuation using dark object addition and transmitted power (because difference in PRF will lead to different transmitter power values). After these corrections, the intensity values were directly relative to target reflectance. Flight heights of 200 m and 1000 m are suitable for intensity calibration using artificial test targets due to the practical aspects of the calibration (size of the calibrator). With the 3000 m altitude signals with reflectance of less or equal of 10% could not be recorded most probably due to insufficient signal-to-noise ratio. Thus, the test target reflectance should exceed 10% to give a reliable distance measurement from 3000 m altitude.
