[Termes IGN] trajet (mobilité)Résumé : (Auteur) We introduce a novel scheme for automatically deriving synthetic walking (locomotion) and movement (steering and avoidance) behavior in simulation from simple trajectory samples. We use a combination of observed and recorded real-world movement trajectory samples in conjunction with synthetic, agent-generated, movement as inputs to a machine-learning scheme. This scheme produces movement behavior for non-sampled scenarios in simulation, for applications that can differ widely from the original collection settings. It does this by benchmarking a simulated pedestrian's relative behavioral geography, local physical environment, and neighboring agent-pedestrians; using spatial analysis, spatial data access, classification, and clustering. The scheme then weights, trains, and tunes likely synthetic movement behavior, per-agent, per-location, per-time-step, and per-scenario. To prove its usefulness, we demonstrate the task of generating synthetic, non-sampled, agent-based pedestrian movement in simulated urban environments, where the scheme proves to be a useful substitute for traditional transition-driven methods for determining agent behavior. The potential broader applications of the scheme are numerous and include the design and delivery of location-based services, evaluation of architectures for mobile communications technologies, what-if experimentation in agent-based models with hypotheses that are informed or translated from data, and the construction of algorithms for extracting and annotating space-time paths in massive data-sets. [Termes IGN] relation topologiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Modeling spatially distributed phenomena in terms of its controlling factors is a recurring problem in geoscience. Most efforts concentrate on predicting the value of response variable in terms of controlling variables either through a physical model or a regression model. However, many geospatial systems comprises complex, nonlinear, and spatially non-uniform relationships, making it difficult to even formulate a viable model. This paper focuses on spatial partitioning of controlling variables that are attributed to a particular range of a response variable. Thus, the presented method surveys spatially distributed relationships between predictors and response. The method is based on association analysis technique of identifying emerging patterns, which are extended in order to be applied more effectively to geospatial data sets. The outcome of the method is a list of spatial footprints, each characterized by a unique “controlling pattern”—a list of specific values of predictors that locally correlate with a specified value of response variable. Mapping the controlling footprints reveals geographic regionalization of relationship between predictors and response. The data mining underpinnings of the method are given and its application to a real world problem is demonstrated using an expository example focusing on determining variety of environmental associations of high vegetation density across the continental United States. [Termes IGN] Time-geographyRésumé : (Auteur) Time geography uses space–time volumes to represent the possible locations of a mobile agent over time in a x–y–t space. A volume is a qualitative representation of the fact that the agent is at a particular time ti inside of the volume’s base at ti . Space–time volumes enable qualitative analysis such as potential encounters between agents. In this paper the qualitative statements of time geography will be quantified. For this purpose an agent’s possible locations are modeled from a stochastic perspective. It is shown that probability is not equally distributed in a space–time volume, i.e., a quantitative analysis cannot be based simply on proportions of intersections. The actual probability distribution depends on the degree of a priori knowledge about the agent’s behavior. This paper starts with the standard assumption of time geography (no further knowledge), and develops the appropriate probability distribution by three equivalent approaches. With such a model any analysis of the location of an agent, or relations between the locations of two agents, can be improved in expressiveness as well as accuracy. [Termes IGN] spécification de produitRésumé : (Auteur) In map design, user’s choices of graphical signs may be unsuitable to their needs. In particular, colours choices may disturb the reading and understanding of maps. We propose a methodology to help users to make personalized and original colours specifications. It implies offering cartographic expertise and favouring creativity. The paper handles with knowledge for colours specification coming from visual perception, cognitive sciences, graphic semiotics, cartography and art. We specify a knowledge base made-up of cartographic rules (semantic, contrasts and conventional), artistic rules and inspiration sources (map samples and famous paintings). The COLorLEGend system based on this knowledge allows users to make various colours specifications and maps, depending on cartographic and artistic colours uses.
